  • Isaiah Thomas went from an MVP candidate to out of the league in 3 years. Why did this happen? How did his hip injuries go unnoticed and derail his career as quickly as it did? NBA players should take the tale of Isaiah Thomas as a warning that there’s no loyalty in basketball, and this is how the Boston Celtics ruined his career.

For one playing on his injured hip for a series isn't what ruined Thomas career it was the fact he played on a bad hip joint for over 3 years before finally getting surgery smh can't blame the Celtics for his own ignorance of not getting surgery until your hip needs a full resurfacing surgery like he need as the surgeon who did his surgery in 2020 said his rip joint was "pitted like asphalt" and couldn't believe Thomas could even walk let alone play with his hip joint being that bad smh you can't tell me nobody told him he didn't need surgery for over 3 years smh and if Cavs, Nuggets and Wizards didn't tell him and he went all that time believing team doctors without getting another opinion from a doctor outside of any of those teams and being in major pain for 3 years then IT is an complete moron and might have other issues he needs to worry bout like getting getting his brain checked out smh no if IT blames the Celtics for his hip it's cause he doesn't wanna accept responsibility for his own ignorance smh

The Celtics getting IT screwed up their rebuild in a way. They had Brooklyn's first-rounder in 2016 and '18 and a pick swap in '17 (which became Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and the pick they traded for Kyrie Irving). Ideally they were going to be awful for a couple of years in '15 and '16 so they could double-dip in the lottery then be good in '17 so they could stick Brooklyn with a bad pick.
Who knows who Boston might've been able to grab if they'd been able to pick higher with their own pick in those two drafts. That 20-31 record prorated to 31-51 over 82 games, which would've given them a pick somewhere around 7, 8, or 9. Myles Turner went 11th and Devin Booker went 13th in '15. If they'd been lousy in '16 as well, they not only would've gotten Brown with the Nets' pick but might even have been able to land a guy like Domantas Sabonis (11th), Jakob Poeltl (9th) or even Jamal Murray (7th.)
(edit to clarify: Of course this is a best-case scenario; 2015 and '16 were both pretty lousy drafts below the top 3, and the C's could just have easily have ended up with guys like Emmanuel Mudiay-who can't shoot for beans-or Marquese Chriss, who has a negative career VORP in five years.)

The kings never should’ve got rid of him. Way underrated player.😞

the cavs and thomas himself should be blamed moreso than the celtics. i don't think a single gm in the nba would pass on a kyrie for i.t. trade. when he got to the cavs, there was pressure for him to fill irving's shoes and he rushed his return, and cavs management ok'd that. he was looking for a big payday, made a gamble, and lost. that's just life. thomas was never the same after that. so... are the celtics really to blame?

Exactly i also doubt he would have sustained the high level play. He reminds me of jeremy lin. He was given a green light and thrived in the Boston system I’ll give him that but a Max contact player?? Foh

@@Morebeats_ To be fair, Jeremy Lin only did it for like a month. Thomas was doing it for years.
