Loved Countdown pre 2005. I was only 13 but loved coming home to watch this show after school.
I loved the opening titles
Countdown made me the person I am today. I watched it as a toddler and it helped me read before I could speak. It actually helped me learn how to talk. I eventually spoke in full sentences when I was 4. I was diagnosed with autism when I was 2 and was told that I might not have learned how to speak at all. It's allowed me to write out the silly wee stories in my head.
Honestly I love this show so much, I'm glad I looked up old Countdown episodes at 2am xD
Thanks so much for archiving these you're doing God's work ❤
In the UK, July 4th is a day of mourning. (2x4x25 + 8 - 3 + 1)
Jason: "What does V-A-T stand for?"
Lady: "VAT."
Genius.
Took me ages before I realised it was "Cloughs" 😁 Sorry about that, young man.
12:25 quite right, I got “siphoned” too.
What will this series do when it reaches 100 seasons in 2029? (since it broadcasts two or three cycles per year)
Thanks is there any more 1980s episodes to come
Another 7-letter word that was overlooked on the last letters round was LAGOONS!
It's so great to go back and see Richard doing this job RIGHT! That thing on his face is called a smile! And he's actually chuckling. Imagine that these days! I think joy is banned on modern TV.
If you think there's no joy on modern TV, you're not looking hard enough.
Still with 1997 countdown board game in goody bag
"If it ain't broke", eh?

Dictionary Corner guy was so wildly out of place on proper Countdown.
He adds the human element 😂
He was a judge on Ireland's Got Talent. Here's a clip of him ruining the show.

Keep it up!
11:33 I say pisiden
What does the winner get?
And why are there so many more letter games than number games?
Winners of a game will win a teapot. Winners of a full series will win a set of dictionaries.
6:31
6 letters : CARTEL, RELUCT (v.i.).
N.B. I don't know if verbs are admitted.
Yes they are! In both their conjugated and infinitive forms
@@therumeon2704 Thank you for this information.

Lagoons
Regulate
there's only one E
20:33 BIOFUEL
It's a valid word, just checked.
You have to admire Jason Byrne, staying on TV for so long without a humorous bone in his body. I cringe every time I hear the fella open his mouth. Absolutely insufferable.
8 x (25+1) = 208
208 - 2 = 206
7 x (50+4) = 378
378 - (9-1-2) = 372
or
7 x (50+2) = 364
364 + (9-1) = 372
75 + (10-7) = 78
78 x 4 = 312
312 + (9/9) = 313
ATOMISER. CLOTTIER.
