    Both teams played with great heart and desire to win. You should be very proud to play in the National Championship Game . That is a great accomplishment !! Be thankful that you are young and healthy. There are many bright days ahead 🌞. I give Geno credit that he doesn't chew on referees or yell at players. He always keeps his composure and accepts defeat with class . What a great coach he is !!

    I am not a U Conn fan at all, but with that said, Geno has carried on what Pat Summitt started for women's basketball. He has helped women all over this country. Your emotions are heartbreaking but necessary. The average Joe/Jane does not understand the amount of sacrifice, hard work and abuse you put your bodies through in a season and when that hard work is not reciprocated with a victory it can be devastating.

      Williams should have been on the court. Gino was out coached in every aspect of that game. And his answer to deal with it was to treat a senior player who led that team while Paige was out to the final. That team didn't get into the flow of the game because no one was making shots. South Carolina's intense defense didn't allow them to make shots. But what's even worse Gino didn't allow Williams to play through her struggles. The whole team was struggling. @@joerusso4417 Ok lets look at the so called talent of which you speak. Nika got DPOY and she absolutely cannot keep premier guards in front of her to save her life. Notre Dame freshman guard Olivia Miles was blowing right by her or running her into screens. SC guard Destanni Henderson shook Nika with a Eurostep so bad she fell out of bounds without any contact. NIka played 40 minutes against Oregon and had 3 pts. 2 assist and NO steals. She only looks good against weak Big East point guards where the best she faces is Park Lane at Seton Hall and she's only 3 ft tall. All year Williams and Westbrook disappeared in the 4th. Fudd, Williams, and Muhl had one basket each in this finals. Yuhasz has hands of stone and can't handle a pass to save her life and can only get a rebound if it happens to bounce right to her. Edwards can't stay in the game with out fouling out. Fudd for the most part has moments of brilliance but goes stat padding and camps out on the 3 pt line instead of setting screens and being involved in the offense. Other than Paige the only consistent contributor was Ducharme who played great until her head injury. Williams and ONO did not improve their entire 4 years. My point exactly was that the Phee, Lou, Nurse, Gabby and Dangerfield squad which mostl start on WNBA teams didn't make to the NC and was a far better squad than this finals team that couldn't muster an offense for two consecutive years against good defensive teams.

So, I look at the obvious miserable disappointment and I compare their reaction to not only Stanford but Michigan etc. They (UConn) need to take this opportunity to learn from it and use this experience as the ultimate motivation to raise your game and challenge yourself to understand and use what you have found missing or not good enough then your outlook from any loss is an opportunity to enlightenment.

    Uconn overcame tons of what could easily be season-ending issues to even get to the NCAA finals, which is no easy task. Unfortunately, Dorka's fractured wrist in the finals left them without a advanced rebounder + solid outside shooter & defender under the hoop, which SC took full advantage of to win the game. Droka's long outside shooting range would have pulled SC's defensive bigs out of the key, which would have opened up the drives / foul shots for Uconn's guards a whole lot more. SC simply parked their bigs in they key, well off Uconn's non-shooter bigs, and smothered the smaller forwards and guards on their cuts & drives. Credit to SC for a well executed game plan against Uconn's biggest weakness in the finals. Credit to Uconn for fighting through the big size disadvantage and keeping the game interesting. Looking forward to seeing Uconn's capitalize on their deep NCAA playoff experience next year Go Huskies!

    South Carolina had an overwhelming advantage over Connecticut in rebounds 49-24, in fouls 11-21, and in free throw attempts 26-4. It's very hard for ANY team to win a game with these kinds of disparities. But how did they happen?
    Lets look at the free throw attempts:
    When your team's #1 free throw attempter on a season (Nelson-Ododa) takes only two (2) field goal attempts and pulls down only 2 rebounds all game long;
    When your team's #2 free throw attempter on a season (Juhasz) is out with a wrist injury;
    When your team's #3 free throw attempter on a season (Williams) where they also normally lead the team in drives to the basket, goes 1-8 and is almost invisible all game long;
    When your team's #4 free throw attempter on a season (Westbrook) does take 10 attempts in 18 minutes, but they are mostly perimeter jumpers due to her dealing with some sort of injury all game long.....
    well, you're probably going to see your team get dominated on the boards and in the paint all game long, and have a pretty off game in terms of getting fouled and going to the free throw line.
    Connecticut is typically a team that does not gather fouls in any typical scenario, anyways. They don't foul, and they don't get fouled. Luigi likes smooth, free-flowing motion offense where everyone is moving, cutting, driving, and passing. Not much banging and battling in the paint. As such, CT was something like 178th nationally this past season in free throw attempts, with under 500 total attempts, while South Carolina was 5th with 700+ attempts. South Carolina played 1 more game this season than CT did.
    So, you run an offense that typically does NOT generate fouls and free throws, you do NOT present much of a contest for the rebounds or points in the paint, and the vast majority of your scoring comes from perimeter jump shots.
    Against an opponent that's 3rd in nation in rebounds per game and 1st in rebound margin. That is 3rd in scoring defense and 2nd in field goal percentage defense. That's how you get dominated in rebounding, in fouls, and in free-throw attempts. They are going to already be there: you MUST rise to the occasion and meet them there and do battle with them. And Connecticut just either couldn't or wouldn't do that....

    Huge coaching error. Gino should have never treated Williams like he did. Everyone on that team was struggling. Williams is the player who lead that team when Paige was out. These girls have struggled to get into a flow of a game ALL season and have been able to work it out enough to get to the finals. Gino you didn't give the team or Williams a chance to win that game. Shame on you. Uconn wasn't getting beat because they weren't making shots. They were getting beat because they couldn't make shots. South Carolina's defense was just too strong and UConn girls could not overcome their intense defense. Gino was out coached the entire game and he was frantic. I understand Fudd was sick. Williams is a senior and should have been on that Court the entire game. Gino did the team WRONG. Williams WRONG.
    SIDE NOTE TO PAIGE. You better have your trainer up in your face this off season. You need to be defended by size and height. So you can learn to shoot against the swarming defense. Bigger players. Taller players. YOUR trainer needs to push you, lean on you, smack your arms, poke you and grab your shirt. Rough you up. And you need to learn how to shoot against it. Not dribble around the court until you finally out run your Defender to get a shot off. You need to practice your shooting from the left side of the Court and you need to practice making shots way outside the 3-point line. You need to learn to shoot a fade away. Your challenge to get to the next level will be to be the offensive player no one can stop from getting a shot off. No one should say she's gotten to her spot and she's money from that spot. ANY SPOT on a basketball court should be your money shot. Yes you're a good player. Now practice and learn to be a great player.

Geno repeatedly implying that they weren't as good, or they won't make it, etc without Paige and yet they made it the majority of the season without her. Paige adds an extra element yes but they were good without her and don't believe it because Paige gets all the hype and credit. They dont have the confidence because they were thought of as less than if Paige wasn't playing. The Big East is not much better than the AAC so that wasn't a test for them. Geno doged them into believing that they were not good without Paige and they have no confidence even though they weren't bad without her. It was grossly unfair to force the UCONN women to travel 1,325 miles to play in the Final Four at Minneapolis, while South Carolina only had to travel 1,212 miles. As we've already seen, if UCONN got to play this game in Bridgeport, it would have been much closer, and UCONN might have actually won this game. It was totally unfair to force the UCONN women to leave the state of Connecticut to play in the Final Four and they need to file a complaint with the NCAA ASAP.

      @@yuwonder80 You bring up that loss earlier in the season in the Battle 4 Atlantis? That was in Nassau, Bahamas and UCONN had to travel 1,194 miles to get there, while South Carolina only had to travel 657 miles. You know as well as I do, if that game had rightfully been played in Connecticut before 10,000 of their fans, UCONN probably could have beaten South Carolina.
