  • I wrote this piece about the neighborhood on the Northwest side of Chicago where I grew up. Although I'm a music and comedy performer, I've always done some serious things in my show. When I started performing "Norwood Park," a lot of people came up afterwards and tearfully told me it reminded them of their own childhood. This was true no matter what part of the country they came from. So I decided to do a video. I hope it brings many of you fond memories.
I dedicate this video to my Mom and my brother, who both make appearances here. I lost each of them much too soon.

You're one of a kind Wayne, the kind that reaches that vulnerable and guarded place within us!
I saw you several times in Mundelein Illinois, when you came to visit the folks, and the Ground Round in Rockford where I'm from.
I shared a song I'd written and recorded on a four track for my first son.... he's in his 30's now.
You invited me on stage once to play guitar while you played banjo.....just 3 chords you said, let's have fun!
You create such a special place to be whether it's heartfelt song, or trash, or heartfelt trash!
I dragged 20 different people to your shows at different times....laughing drinking, screaming harmonies just to try to be there in the moment.
Would love to do it all again, maybe drag the family.... we're 21 now! At our family reunion of 180 every three years, I get prodded to do the rooster song, the unicorn, and I can't help but add to and embellish my time "on stage" with quips and heartstring tugs that pull at the crowd.
I look back at where I'm from, and who I'm from, but a great deal of that side of me was helped along by that one of a kind guy, Wayne Faust!
This was a beautiful piece, you have many! Thank you for it all, Steve

I grew up on a circle street, too. A bit later than you but it was a wonderful neighborhood.

Wayne, this brought tears to my eyes and made me feel so nostalgic! Your first band, you, Raulf, Mark (RIP), and ?. You and your sweet brother Tom playing catch in the street. We had a great childhood, "Back in Norwood Park". Thank you for this wonderful piece that stirred up so many great memories for me!

Hi Jane - Thanks for the heartfelt comment. I'm glad you like my tribute to Norwood Park and our childhood. The other guy in the picture is Scott Herdt, who has also passed away.

Thanks Wayne, great job putting this together. It’s exactly the way it was growing up on the northwest side of Chicago. Brought back so many wonderful memories of my childhood. Grew up in Edison Park which is adjacent to Norwood, went to school at Taft, class of 65. I think all of us growing up their at that time could replace your videos and photos with those of our own families. It’s the way it was and it was all good. 👍❤👍

I just saw this comment today. Thanks so much for viewing and sending. I actually moved across Harlem Avenue from Neva in Norwood Park to Clarence and Odell in Edison Park, just a block away from Edison Park School. I used to go to the Friday Night social center there. I also graduated from Taft, but in 1971. All the best, and enjoy those fall leaves!

We lived on Myrtle Ave a couple blocks west of you and had several friends near Odell and Palatine. It's a small world! Friday night social at Edison was the best! We were about 6 years ahead of you. Thanks again for the great video.

Hi Wayne, I stumbled across your video by accident. I was watching videos of the old Hub roller rink. I grew up in Norwood Park and remember those places well. Especially the train station. Sure brought a tear or two to my eyes. Did you have a sister named Nancy? your last name sounds so familiar to me. Anyway, Thanks for the video.I'll share it members of the Norwood park group on facebook. Stop by and say hello if you get time. my nake is Al Cameron. take care.

Sorry you had that experience. My video was about when I was a kid, so I didn't notice any of that.
