oh my god OH MY GOD YOURE FINALLY WATCHING THIS MOVIE
YAAASSSS 🙌🏼🫶🏼
The crossover!
Please do a movie commentary on the 50 shades of grey movies! They get better I promise!
“There’s no way Tanner… likes women” I mean, you are not wrong, the actor that plays him is gay lmao 🤠
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING😭
He also played an incredibly fruity Pennywise in the IT musical (my fave fun fact)
Him and his partner got married a few years ago but he still loves dancing and is literally amazing at it
frr thoo
I feel like that’s why he winked when he said “chick” in I know what girls like sing.
Also a funny fact, when the cast for the Barbie movie came out, people thought that Tanner (Garrett Clayton) would have been a better choice since he’s literally the real life Ken.
OMG they should’ve put him in as another Ken like Simu Liu
I want Garrett in the Barbie sequel.
he really wouldve been better
You know he looks like Ken, but also his brother is so handsome too.
Tanner's job is literally beach
Tanner is like literally the living embodiment of a Ken doll
i remember this movie being such a fever dream because i would tell everyone about it after i first watched it at 13 and nobody knew what i was talking about. I had totally forgotten the name of the movie and I had NO clue what Ross Lynch's name was at the time. For like 3 years I was convinced I had made the entire thing up.
That's what I thought of the movie "Doogal." Saw it once when I was like three years old (cause we borrowed it from Blockbuster) and it was so weird. And since no one talks about it, I thought it was something I imagined. Then I learned it was a real movie.
@@broadwaybrook2319 just saw Razzle’s video on it a few *days ago. Apparently my wife had watched it when she was little (she’s white so cultural difference as i only watched spanish movies or whatever came on late at night like Teen Beach), and the same thing happened to her. No other kid had watched it and when she told me about it in middle school i had no clue what she was talking about. All these years both of us had watched a movie nobody else did and thought we imagined it…
edit; word oops
My weird flex is that I watched this live when it first aired lol 😅
Me with Camp Rock 2 😂
same!!!
SAME!! I literally remember saving the time and date on my calendar, and then watching it at 6:30 pm when I was in 4th grade 😭😭 like the memory is so vivid, this movie was my CHILDHOOD
Teen Beach Movie is one of my unironic favorite Disney Channel Originals… like the songs go crazy for no reason 😂
It's one of my top 5 favorite Disney movies in general LOL I'm not much of a Disney fan tho but this is like my fourth favorite
it's so funny that you said maia mitchell (mack) looks like bailee madison (bridge to terebithia) because *THE FOSTERS SPOILERS* they actually play biological sisters in the fosters series! also the tanner + lela queerness energy is amped tf up in the sequel and tanner is so good in the 2nd movie you're gonna love it
Tanner was easily the best part of the 2nd movie! The scene with him and the inflatable man brought me so much joy.
i was NOT expecting this commentary but i’m not complaining
that “but at least i’m here with you” line from brady in can’t stop singing makes me wanna cry every time 😭 it’s so cute
I remember when they had commercial breaks they had segments that taught you the dances! LMAO!! I hope those are still on DVD : )
Ommmgggg I remember that for High School Musical 😭 good times
Those were everything. I still do the choreography from Cruisin for a Bruisin if it comes on. The memories 🥰
omgg i remember those ahh
For real???
@@Synchronicities- Yup!!
I'm a lifelong DCOM supporter. There is about a decade where DCOMs ruled the world...or at least the world of kids that watched Disney Channel. There are some true gems.
Agreed! I grew up on DCOMs. There are some that aren’t even on Disney Plus.
@@RabbitsFunWorld For fun, I went back and watched all of the DCOMs on Disney+. It took forever but I enjoyed it.
IKR I was always uncomfortable watching those old classic Disney movies, and prefer movies like Teen Beach Movie and Princess Protection program because the "princesses" and girly girl characters are still seen as tough and strong, and not topless bimbo mermaids falling in love with a dumb hunk prince twice their age
@@benhuffman31 I plan on doing that too.
Happy 10th year anniversary to this flick. It's corny and cheesy, in all the best ways. Please review the sequel if you can, Sophia! 🙏💖
The sequel was okay, not as good as the first. I think my biggest complaint would be the glaring retcons lol
10 years??!!? omg...
Teen beach movie is so corny and I think that's why I loved it so much when I was younger . Now I feel like I should rewatch it
I actually liked this movie, minus the whole weather-machine plot. But now I've a huge fan of Jordan Fisher.
@@broadwaybrook2319 Turning Red made me realize what an amazing voice he has!
Fun fact, the actor who plays the grandpa is Barry Bostwick, who also was Brad in Rocky Horror Picture Show!
I loved your reaction, this is such in iconic movie
He also played Danny Zuko on Broadway
Mack used to make me very upset when it first showed on Disney bc she was so MEAN. Nothing and no one made her happy, it stressed me so much man😭
Edit: Tanner is the best!! So true!!!
Plus the Tanner + Brady and Mack + Layla is so real
Girl was STRESSING the entire movie 😭
@@SophiaPhannnI get that but man young me was so mad she was so tunnel visioned
She is like 15-16 so it kinda makes sense 😭
@@not-so-happypappypattonAs a current 16 year old, gotta say I HOPE I don't come across this stressed and rude all the time😅
Tbh I watched this as an adult for the first time and I hated Tanner LOL o_0 I mean, when he was shocked that a girl did better than him surfing that's what made me hate him. I remember when it came out on Disney channel (I was 10 or 11) and I didn't watch it for some reason, I feel bad now because now this is one of my favorite Disney movies (I'm not much of a Disney fan in general)
This is actually one of my favorite movies, just because it's so cheesy and campy. I literally love how bad it is, it makes me happy (so bad its good)
3:50 funnily enough, there was a special on “JESSIE” where in which Debby Ryan plays Maia Mitchell’s stunt double!
cruisin for a bruisin absolutely SLAPS
you chose the perfect summer movie fr
5:45 I believe they actually had them surfing. I remember on Disney Channel when it came out, they had some promo videos with Maia and Ross talking about surfing. I’m pretty sure Maia had experience surfing beforehand and Ross had to learn.
I think I remember those too XD I don't remember actually seeing this movie when it came out but I remember promos for it all the time
can't believe it's been 10 years this is insane! also tanner gets even more himbo-like in the sequel it's hilarious. and you'r enot wrong, the lela/mack vines only get stronger and tanner is not a straight man i am so sorry to him lmao
I love how you said Tanner is definetly not into girls bcs its so freaking accurate because the actual actor who played him Garrett Clayton actually came out as gay in 2018 and is also married and has a husband who he was dating since 2011
This was my favorite Disney movie as a kid I can't believe it was 2013 and it still feels like yesterday I was yelling at my mom to hurry with the popcorn as I was watching it premiere I feel so old now the old care free days of young me 😭✋🏽
i remember when i saw this for the first time as a kid and being shocked that Lela and Mack didn’t end up together lol
Fun fact, Bailee Madison (the girl from Bridge To Terabithia) played the little sister of Maia Mitchell (Mack) on The Fosters! Thought of it when you said they look alike, it was perfect casting!
BTW, the actor who plays the grandpa is Barry Bostwick, aka Brad from Rocky Horror Picture Show!!
I don't know how this movie didn't went as viral as Camp Rock or High School Musical
It was fun and the songs were good 🤷🏻♀️ maybe not as iconic as We're All In This Together or This Is Me but still good
This movie is 100 times better than Camp Rock and High School Musical combined
@@jocelynecupcakeIt only has better dancing.
I remember it being pretty loved at the time. That was around the time people weren't watching TV as much but talk went around and it got people to watch it and like it. Second movie killed the momentum tho cause it sucks and then Descendants came out so people were more into that.
Omg finally someone points out that the biker song is so inspired by Grease, like the bikers entering the café literally sounded like “we go together”.
The outfits in this movie are so good! And I think Tanner is a mindset, a goal
I was thinking they’d pull something like her Grandpa was an actor in the movie which is why he likes it so much
The crush i had on Lela all the times when my cousin made me watch this movie...and now seeing she again... i get it, she's stunning
This movie is a classic childhood movie for me and always will be but my surprise when I found out the movie they were transported into was based off of west side story which is one of my favorite musicals honestly 10/10 Disney channel movie
I adored this commentary so much! Teen Beach is such a silly and happy movie, it’s my favorite ever and you had such a good energy! Some people just mocked it but it’s nice seeing you enjoy the silliness of it!! The sequel it’s good but not as good, but I’m very excited to see what you think of it!!
i really love this movie i watched it with my family when it came out (including my late mother) and we all loved it (my mom and dad grew up in the 60s and my mother loved 60s beach movies) it's cheesy but the cheesiness makes it great' and "how can you like this silliness" cause i know how to have fun maya's character *squints*
Love this movie so much but... I'd like to forget that the sequel exists
Unpopular opinion: i actually loved the sequel…well, aside from the ending 💀
I’m so happy you reacted to it it’s one of my favourite musical DCOMS!! I used to know all the dances but now the one I remember the most is cruising for a bruising
8:55 I remember rewatching the HELL out of the Cruisin for a Bruisin youtube video tryna learn the choreo!!! I was OBSESSED. I even taught it to one of my fellow camp counselors 😂
3:52 she was in Jessie with Debby Ryan
I don't know if you do requests from viewers or not but I would love to see a reaction/commentary of The Emperor's New Groove. That is one of my absolute favorite Disney movies and as a fan of David Spade, it's my favorite David Spade movie. Plus, Kronk is the best character in the movie!
Also, once again, you look 🔥
This movie was so fun! Wild that it’s already a decade old. Yesss Garrett Clayton as Tanner was the highlight of the movie for me too! I loved all of the campiness and the references to other musicals. Great commentary!
Fun fact the actress in bridge to terabithia that u referred to mac actually played her sister in a tv show called The fosters.
She looks so fine with that red hair. Outfit and makeup on point as always too.
And the actor who plata Tanner is 💅
also this movie proves my theory (well fact) that cheesy things are superior to noncheesy things.
This is one of the last original disney movies that I watched and also problably one of the last succesful ones.
no descendants came out 2 years after this and was really successful.
One of the reasons I liked this movie when I was younger was because of Ross Lynch. I had and still have a big crush on him
Honestly tho, the songs all slap
You should watch some of the Frankie & Annette beach movies from the ‘60s that are the underlying source for this one: Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party, Beach Blanket Bingo, etc. They’re campy fun.
Fun fact something like "DCOM movie" is called a RAS syndrome (redundant acronym syndrome syndrome) ATM machine and PIN number are 2 others
Bruh I remember when this movie came out, can’t believe it’s been 10 years already, ahhh I hate feeling old😢
Now I want this to be on TV this summer😂😂
This is the best disney musical ever... no question
Agreed ^u^ better than the cheesy classic ones
Has nothing to do with the movie, but your makeup is ON POINT (also great commentary, I loved it)❤️
THANK YOU, I thought it was a good makeup day too 😌💅🏼
The Dont Stop the Music is one of the best dance choreography in disney movie. and Ross Lynch! Cmon he’s the man. 😂
I'm going to relive the trauma I had as a child with you watching my boy Tanner get destroyed in the second movie turning into a complete fool.
Surf Crazy is my favourite song in the whole movie. It was nice to see you were vibing with it, lol. Love your content! This is a very nice movie, glad you enjoyed it.
I love this movie!! Great video sophia and I love your look today, you look like starfire! Also I think the actor who plays tanner is actually gay so you saying he doesn't like women is actually spot on lol
10 year old me was absolutely obsessed with the choreo throughout this movie so i now know pretty much all of it
I've only seen this movie twice but I listen to some of the songs all the time, love it. This movie is TOTAL corn but good corn lol. I've yet to see the Sequel though. Tanner cracks me up because there's nothing going on between those ears lol.
And yes you'd kill it in a musical! 🎶✨
Also yes, Tanner is gay irl. He played a gay porn star in a movie named King Cobra about a year after the second movie. He's been in quite a few other things but I haven't seen them.
This was one of me and my younger sisters favorite movies for awhile, I love the music and it parodying and teasing musicals and their tropes 🥺
This was my favorite movie as a kid, and it always came out on my birthday 😭😭
The actor who plays Ross Lynch's grandpa or uncle (whatever) played Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). His name is Barry Bostwick and he also had a cameo in the Rocky Horror episode of Glee, alongside his former cast member Meat Loaf (rest in peace).
he was also the original danny zuko in grease
Please I want TBM 2. It fits the summer vibe we have going on.
ohmygod i LOVE this movie so much its one of my fave dcoms actually i think it works so well because its aware that its cheesy so it just leans so completely into it and its like campy and fun, plus the songs all FUCK so hard theyre so good 😭😭
i didnt really like the sequel as much it was kinda trash but maybe thats just because when i watched it i was a tbm1 stan so i was disappointed it wasnt the same vibe 💀
also separately both of the wet side story leads (tanner and leila) are queer which i love, they kinda had chemistry with all of the leads tho crazy
i traumatized my father with this movie for years 😭😭
Can’t believe this was your first time. This movie is so slay and it’s super funny. The music and the acting is just top notch.❤😂
This movie is definitely in my top 3 favorite DCOMs, even though I had outgrown Disney when it came out!
I even had a zipper pull of the surfboard on my backpack all throughout high school lmao.
I loveddd this movie when it came out, but haven’t really watched it since. Seeing Surf Surf Crazy and Cruisin’ For A Bruisin’ after 10 years unlocked my childhood memories 😭❤️
Edit: YESSS, Rebecca Rose is the best!!!!!
I love this movie!!! your commentary to teen beach movie made me so happy!!!! Please watch the second one too!!! I would rewatch the movie again!!!
All my friends in like 4th grade and I learned a bunch of the choreography (poorly) from this movie, especially from the cruising for a bruising song. I also think I was gay for the girl with the beehive.
I think I was in 5th grade when this movie came out LOL you're probably around my age XD I never watched it until I was an adult tho
Its funny how you said that the actress for Mack could be related to the lil sister from Bridge to Terabithia because they played (half?) sisters in "The Fosters" I'm pretty sure
The summer this movie came out is truly a core memory
I was so young and somehow my brain decided to make a choice on wanting Lela and Mack (McKenzie) to be together 😭
No wait the grandpa being tanner why do I want that 😂
RIGHT? It wouldn’t make any sense, but god that would be an insane plot twist
Sophia: The actress for Mack looks like she could be related to the sister from Bridge to Terabithia.
Fun fact: the two actresses played half-sisters in the Freeform series 'The Fosters'.
Teen Beach 2 isn't that good, but it's packed full of iconic Tanner moments. It's worth it for all the Tanner moments in my opinion.
the second one is definitely interesting but the songs are sooo good
Maybe I should watch it then. I didn't like Tanner that much in this movie, maybe the sequel might make me change my mind? (It was when he was so shocked that a girl beat him at surfing that made me not like him)
I’m so happy you recognize this movie omgg def do teen beach 2 it’s ending is tooo good!!!
16:59 LOL she actually plays Mia's younger sister in The Fosters!
17:00 you're not wrong they actually play sisters in the show the fosters !! Also your commentary on this has me loling off my bed. You just gained a new sub. Keep it up Sophia!!
YEAH.... YOUR GONNA BE 50/50 WITH THE SEQUEL
This is, to this day, my favorite DCOM. All of the songs are iconic and still hold up!
i love this movie it’s such a vibe 💙💙
I explained this movie to my mom as West Side Story meets Grease meets a beach.
(I have never watched it!)
It's so weird that you watched this near its 10th year anniversary!! What a coincidence
Great reaction! Glad you enjoyed this film! I would love to see your reaction to the sequel! If you’re interested in other DCOMs or Disney films for the summer I recommend these: Rip Girls, The Thirteenth Year, The Paper Brigade, Brink, Johnny Tsunami, Johnny Kapahala: Back On Board, Camp Nowhere, Heavyweights, The Even Stevens Movie, The Proud Family Movie, Horse Sense, and Jumping Ship.
🏄🏼🏄🏻♀️🏍️🏝️🌊💛💚🩵💙
I auditioned for a kids production with Crusin’ for a Brusin’, choreography and all, and I ended up getting the lead.
I’d say it was an embarrassing thing I did as a kid, but it did land me the top role so…
I used to love this movie when I was a Teen Way back in 2013 😂😭
The man who plays Tanner is gay in real life, either your gaydar is really strong or he can’t act hetero😩
Gurl I told you this was an amazing and underrated Disney movie ^u^ I especially love the GIRL POWER unlike the old cheesy classics! The relationship between Mac and Leila isn't jealousy, it's support and I'm all here for it! Also, I recommend you watch Chicken Run and The Croods Ne wAge please!
also its the way this was made by Kenny Ortega, he really did shape my childhood
“if you drop me in miss saigon” lmao id end it all 😭
HAHASKSKSK that’s what I’m SAYING 😭
funnily enough, the actor who plays tanner is gay irl
@ your comment about how there was no way tanner liked girls: you've got an amazing gaydar lmao tanner's actor is gay in real life
My birthday is tomorrow and im calling this my early birthday gift. Have a good day
Happy early birthday!!! 🥳
I remember this movie came out after I got my first period at 11, and I watched the premiere with the worst cramps! After my period ended I learned all of the choreography for this movie, and I bought the special edition DVD that came with Lela’s necklace, (the one with the pendant on the surf board) this movie May be cheesy but it’s hilarious and it has a great cast!
Staaaahhhhhp it! I’m so hyped you chose this movie! It’s such a fun watch!
i think they created a perfect himbo
Omg this movie is so much fun! Nostalgia ❤❤❤❤
agreed.
Me and my cousin watched this so much that we would perform the whole movie. All the lines, every song, dance and we even had props 🥲🕺🏼
Bailee Madison (Bridge to Terabithia) and Maia Mitchell (Mack) play half sisters in the tv show Fosters
i can't wait for you to watch the next one~ this was very entertaining as always thank you!
