Another great video Steve. While I love the addition of Scratch Pad in EN, I currently use Drafts on the fly with my iPad or iPhone. With Drafts I take a quick note or dictation and it is saved as a separate snippet. Using a "Quick Action," I can then select each snippet and quickly move it to Evernote as a separate note.
Enjoy your tutorials and have been an occasional user of Evernote for many years. Yes I am impressed by the new features but finding it hard to justify the cost (recently retired). Spent the last month looking at OneNote in combination with IFTTT for adding my Google Tasks and Calendar events to OneNote. Interface may not be as pretty as Evernote and takes a bit of time to set up but now working great. Can do everything Evernote can do as inc what you describe in this tutorial (and more). Now made decision to revert to free version of Evernote and continue with OneNote
Steve You asked about application use. I wish Evernote had been around when I was an active songwriter. It is such an ideal tool if you write songs. Scratch pad for titles and ideas. Storage for mucic clips. And everything available if you are mobile.
I use it for songwriting. I insert audio video clips (to critique for lyrical edits and instrumental embellishments) into the file to go along with my text lyrics, which I write complimentary research/reference notes in and keep and shuffle around lines between optional verse and chorus ideas (which saves paper). I type the guitar chords above the lyrics to play along as I sing, for future reference. It is incredibly useful.
Try this Steve is really gamechanger: if you enter the exact name of the evernote note folder with an @ sign in front and send it to your evernote e-mail address, the complete e-mail will automatically be filed and created as a note in the desired folder! including all attachments, etc., for example, within a small company you can create a perfect filing system for a multi-copy station using just the special Evernote e-mail address. Combined with Evernote's powerful search function that you described, that's perfect. You can find every single document or sheet super quickly and reliably.
Hi Steve, I have a question. Am I to assume that instead of using Google docs, Google Keep and Google Calendar, you use Evernote instead? I follow your videos and find them very useful - thank you! Greetings from Newfoundland:)
This is a great short intro to Evernote. What would be the approach for someone like me who has had Evernote installed since 2009, used sporadically (without really knowing how to) and find himself now with a collection of outdated data and info, good info not well files, etc, in other words a big mess. I have all sort of precious info scattered in half a dozen apps and I never know where is something when I look for it. Thanks again!
I think you can get control if you look at Evernote a bit differently, Check out our Quickstart, it follows a different Evernote Philosophy, dott.to/eqs
You gave me renewed interest in EverNote, which I tried once and didn't 'get it'. Now, I'm very interested again. Thank you. And, thank you for the Princess Bride quote at the end.
Worst performance recently.... Unable to open attachments in Evernote..... Please suggest an alternative.... I am a paid Evernote subscriber.... How to transfer to another notes app..... Please help.
I started using Evernote years ago in my BlackBerry and really liked it till they stated charging for the basic one, so I switched to OneNote. Great tutorial, thank you.
Steve … great video … Evernote is an indispensable tool in my daily life … my biggest concern is the health of the company … I have been using Evernote for over 10 years … love the many useful features … it is my most used application ever … but goodness … their customer service and bugs have been difficult to digest at times … YES, I have been a paid premium member basically the entire time … hey … could you consider doing a video on how to back up all of your Evernote data for safe reasons in case the company folds … I have so much invested in this program … and I’m not talking about getting a specifically Evernote back up file … because if they company ever folds … that type of file will be of no use …. that would be a great video, and i think MANY people could benefit from it … NOW … you asked for people to share special ways they use Evernote ... one thing I also use is the “audio” note … I’m also a songwriter/arranger …. if I get a musical thought or hook … I quickly record an audio version of it for recall … you would NOT believe how helpful this is … I have lost many many great creative ideas/concepts over the years, but Evernote changes everything related to this … it’s GREAT to capture spontaneous creative ideas … really ENJOY your channel … have a great day!!
I am not concerned about the company folding, getting sold? yes, which would mean a change in administrative stuff, but the core app simply has too much value. If Evernote becomes unviable as a company you can bet there will be a long line of suitors to claim the prize.
Same concern for OneNote. The primary owner is Microsoft, not the user. Newer versions of 1not loose access to older notes, is this a problem with Evernote?
Love your videos. Have been a subscriber for quite a while. Like learning new things, you have to set up your filing convention before you really understand the program! Makes it tough. Can sympathize with the subscriber who said she has "a mess ". I got "stacks" and "notebooks" backwards. Thought stacks were in notebooks but notebooks are in stacks. I signed up for your Quickstart even though I already have 400 recipes in my Recipe Notebook.😵💫 Thanks Steve.
Evernote on iOS is a bit sluggy if the notes are not downloaded to my phone BUT the latest MacOS Evernote update has M1 support and it’s blazing fast. I’ve tried every Evernote alternative (OneNote, Notion, etc) but always come back to Evernote.
Evernote has become ridiculously (unusably?) slow on mobile for me. To the point where just ticking a checkbox item done or adding anything to an existing note takes 30-40sec. before the note is editable. Every time. On the same note. The same day. Even when the note was created on my phone. Any way to fix this? Doesn’t sound like much, but it’s enough friction that I may move everything to Apple Notes :( Or use EN as an archive-only system until they figure this out
Thx for the info - just starting to look at this method of noting! Have you done a comparison of Evernote vs OneNote? I see Evernote doesn't play w/Dropbox (I've used DB for years).
I would love for you to give us your opinion on the Bending Spoons purchase of Evernote? Are you still going to stay with Evernote in the short term? Thanks
As usual, a great video tutorial. One min rant. Why is rearranging the home dashboard only available for the Evernote Personal account. Why is Evernote trying to charge me $70/yr for a handful of additional features when I'm already paying them $35/yr which I think is a very reasonable price for an app like Evernote?
thanks for that. I will be negative, for the good cause of Evernote which I have adopted ten years ago. The text screen capture is only have the size of the screen, so it is inconvenient for grabbing those museum labels while photographing the artefact.
Steve, this is another great video. Would you happen to know of a way to save an email to Google Drive from Android? I'm trying to think of a way to backup individual Evernote notes. For now I've just been essentially backing up individual notes to my Gmail account. I've lost notes before, but I've always been able to restore them because I always forward a copy to my Gmail account. It would be so much more convenient if I could just send them to my Google Drive account.
Hi Steve, new subscriber here and I enjoy your videos, Thank you for that. I was wondering if that was the free version or paid version of Evernote you demonstrated? Thanks.
Nost of what I showed is in the Free version, but you can use less widgets, and I do not think you can search on a {DF inside of Evernote in the free version.
Evernote is my favorite Note App. It has many powerful features IMHO. But with that being said, however it's not the most intuitive app out there. I find some things unnecessarily complicated, and I have to research how to do certain things with the app on my Android phone. The Desktop App works great though. Evernote will most likely be my favorite notes app b/c of it's great OCR, and it's cross platform is a must Does anyone have any input about these things?
Hey Steve, I used to use Skitch, years ago to annotate PDFs. I've read that this feature was subsequently added to Evernote for smartphones. I can't find this feature. Am I missing something? Or do I have to download the PDFs, and annotate with another app and reupload said PDF? I have Android on a Galaxy S22 Ultra. Thanks for any insight you can give me. Never mind. I found out how to do it on a website.
Steve, a bit off-topic but related. I've used Scannable with Evernote for a while but recently, it frequently disconnects with Evernote and I have to sign back in, change my settings to preferred, etc. Do you know about this issue and/or have any fix? Also, in general, would you trust sensitive docs like bank statements, etc. in Evernote? Thanks for the content!! Dan
Not sure on the disconnect. Evernote security is a great question. I would store bank statements, contracts etc, but personally not Tax returns and other documents of that import.
@@dottotech I store sensitive info, such as Tax returns and forms, in a Zip file that I encrypt and file in a note with a few descriptive phrases that will assist me in locating with Evernote search. Since I use an auto-backup program I have no fear of losing the info.
Have you had trouble with Evernote duplicating notes? MY wife and I have our grocery list synced and it constantly creates a duplicate (new) note whenever we add or delete an item. Thanks.
@@dottotech Interesting, because both my wife and myself have had duplicating note issues. And if you google it several people have had the same problem.
My husband and I have that same issue. Our current hypothesis is that it happens when you begin editing a note before Evernote has finished syncing. Say I update the grocery list from my device, then a half hour later, my husband goes to add something. The version currently on his device is not the latest so the sync is needed to update it. If he starts editing before that process is complete, we think that's when the conflicting note is created.
I'm getting scared about continuing to use Evernote. What's the best alternative? My 30k notes are simple, almost all unformatted text. I migrated from Palm Desktop. I don't need it to be free
I’m a subscriber. I love Steve’s videos. I have been searching for a way to create sub-bullets in Evernote on my iPhone because there’s no tab button on the phone. See the example below (I'm trying to create the 2nd level bullets in the example (bread, milk, fruit). Grocery list Bread Milk Fruit Can anyone help me? Many thanks. Debra
Not perfect but you could create a note titled Groceries then +task for each item. I have certain stores with a list of things I buy at each all in one note. If I want to customize what I need Today, I duplicate the note, delete what I dont want and erase item as I shop keeping my Master list intact.
Evernote is so slow on iOS I’m considering moving everything to Apple Notes. Am I alone? I think Evernote has some very powerful features with a slick UI experience. However, it is so overpriced that, in the end, the annual subscription is a show stopper.
I have been using Evernote for the past 8 years. They have added so much that it doesn’t work good anymore. Not happy that they keep trying to get me to pay a monthly fee when I started using it it didn’t have any fees at all.
While I understand your concern about the features, I do not understand your issue with a company that has provided a valuable service to you for 8 years, asking you to pay for the tool.
@@dottotech since their updates have been making it difficult to use their app. I’ve been looking for another app and have transferred my documents. I don’t wish to use an app that stopped working good let alone pay for it when they haven’t improved it. For me it is no longer easy to use.
