  • 1959, beautiful tranquil settings, in and around Poole Dorset, just sit back and relax and see if you can tell all the places featured? Amazing to see the old cars of that time and what the people were wearing.

My Great Uncle Moved his family to Poole From Harborne near Birmingham in the 50's Then my Grand Parents moved down with my Mum in the late 50's for the clean air as grandfather was gassed during ww1. Anyway my mum met my dad and married in 62. The Poole park model Railway still runs to this day as far as im currently aware. Mr Great Uncle bought and ran the Blue Lagoon in Poole where he sold boats. Long gone now i suppose. Id like to think my parents would have seen these places as shown here at around this time. Thank you for posting these lovely images of a simpler time.

I went to Victoria home and school for crippled children in Poole. One day our school went to Sandbanks and was on the beach going for a walk. A person came up and asked our carers if he could buy is an ice cream as he thought there was just three of us children. He was surprised that there were sixteen of us. He was still kind enough to buy us all an ice cream each including our carers. Another time we went to Branksome Island in a landing craft used for the D day landings in Normandy. That was a great day ! The headmaster was called Mr Crudge. He was a fantastic headmaster.

Wonderful memories of my 1960s childhood. I spotted East Lulworth Castle, which was originally built as a hunting lodge in the early C17th to entertain aristocracy and royalty and has been the family seat of the Weld family for 400 years. Ravaged by a catastrophic fire in 1929, it was partly restored with the help of English Heritage and is now open to the public as an historic visitor attraction and exclusive event venue. Also spectacular Corfe Castle. another of my childhood visits. I loved the picnic scene. The Primus stove was in that Biscuit tin I bet. My Grandad had one. and those exact camping chairs. Thank you.

My granddad used to take his Primus stove everywhere with him, he couldn't go without his cup of tea :)
