Beautifully shot film. Perfect example of letting the viewer’s mind fill in the details. The dead body on the couch is so much more frightening because you never actually see it in the light. As it sits there in shadow you picture things much worse than any special effects could accomplish. That goes for the story as a whole as well. The post apocalyptic setting and the behemoth at the end. Was it an alien invasion? Yet the actress makes a reference of what “we” did to the world. Is that behemoth somehow the result of human machinations? The movie doesn’t end with the ending. It makes you sit and ponder it. Beautiful piece of work.
It’s like if The Mist ended like the book where you don’t know if the government got control of it again. This short felt like what would have happened if the mist wasn’t able to be contained.
@@andreaholcock8992 I agree 100%. I believe that that's what would have happened in the movie The Mist and let me tell you it's one of my favorite books from Stephen King the book was much better than the movie the movies ending really sucked but I agree with you when you said that that's how it would have been if the government wouldn't have gotten control back I believe that those monsters would have still been there.
The answer is in the above section. The creature at the end is born out of all the pollution and chaos humankind its self created. Maybe nature and the earths answer of righting what was wrong with the world..humans.
Eh it was so so
@@lisamorales4286 Have you read Revival yet? I'm still freaked out from how that one ended.
really wish this could be made into a full movie because now I've seen a glimpse of the creature, I want to see more of what it is, and what it can do
@@monkyledesma9142 good job no one asked for your opinion then, because many other including myself loved it and thought the cgi creature was awesome, so sod off
@@monkyledesma9142 I think he knows that. neither does pennywise and IT is a great movie!
@@monkyledesma9142 um it’s nit horrible plus it’s fiction like You dumb or sum :/
Agreed, but this is where the human imagination does beautiful things and keeps you locked in a mystery.
@@monkyledesma9142 Did you actually think Tomas believed these monsters existed?... Really? 😂😳
Very good effects and acting. I love the subtle storytelling of a world that has died and the few that survive live in a darkness and solitude so great, that they will have conversations with corpses.
Humans are social apes like gorillas or chimpanzees, we need that interaction. It's why solitary confinement should be considered a cruel punishment and be taken away. I've been in jail with people who've spent over a year in solitary, they all said you'll know if you can handle it within the first week. You'll either snap or you won't. Even if you don't it forever changes you, you'll never be the same person again
It's kind of sad for this lonely woman, stuck in this apocalyptic type world with a big, quiet enormous creature. You really don't know if it's aggressive or docile, but the woman is ready. This would be good as a full movie. Reminds me of the film, The Mist, by Stephen King.👍
The film isn't by Steven King. Steven King isn't a big fan of most of the movie adaptations of his books, but the Mist is the one he likes. He's even jealous of the changes the screen writers made to the story because he says they make it better
Read the short story by him. It's really scary. Maybe more than the film.🌻🤣🤣
Frank Darabont is the guy who directed the film, and he also did the first 2 seasons of the Walking Dead. Sadly his experience on that show was so bad, he says he doesn't want to direct again.
@@jackalcoyote8777 king wrong the original story.
it reminds you of the mist becuase its a total rip of...the mist. even the huge create at the end, not to mention...the mist...
I loved the dead, quiet moments in this film, and the design of the creature was inspired.
It looks like the monster from kaiju no 8
Nothing like a new Alter film to watch as I sip my iced coffee and watch my son play in the yard ❤️ anyone else obsessed with all things horror?!
Yes I am
Oh yes I'm obsessed 😻
Iced coffee here too! 🥤
I’m currently in line at my kids elementary school watching this. 😂😂😂
You didn't offer me any coffee 😒
Enjoyed this, bleak, stark, the woman using her lonely conversation with a corpse for exposition.
Creature reminded me of the Mist.
I like when a line in a story makes me-in my mind-immediately reply to it
"Back before the world hated us"
My thought was we hated he world first, and this is ultimately what the result was.
It has a ‘The Mist’ vibe to it but darker and scarier…awesome!
yea i was thinking the same
Might as well be a spin-off
The Mist is far scarier than this
Scarier?😂
The Mist had a guy get eaten from the inside out by spiders. In what way is this scarier than the mist?
That was well done. The storytelling through the environment spoke volumes and the writing was powerful. The bit with kids asking about birds and butterflies, that may as well have been creatures of fantasy at that point, gave me pause and the line "Mammy tell me what the world was like before it hated us" hit hard. Very well done.
This is a story worth getting a wider lens if only for its direction and perspective of its wanderer.
Ok this definitely needs to be made into a full length movie. Show the monster and then its over??? No, there has to be more!!
Wow. Love the sound effects, mistful atmosphere , acting especially the acting of dead body so real. Dead did a great job without even moving a finger, literally😂
Umm, I don't think that it was an actor playing the corpse lol. Probably a mannequin. Unless you were joking and I can't discern it 😂
We called him Morris
Very nice. The monster looks really great. Now we need the second part to see it in action.
A great short movie! And kudos to you for having the sense to film most of it in near-darkness and/or mist. When you can't clearly see the creature ... your imagination fills in the details.
The transition from gas environment to clear in the house was a bit confusing but enjoyable.
This was insanely good. I'd love to see this as a feature length movie.
This falls into that hybrid Creepy/Scary category and that gigantic creature/alien being outside introduces terror into our hearts. Nicely done and yes, I too, hope there is a continuance of this film.
That was really well done.
I fully expected her to take the remaining pills and sit next to him to die the same way…
To be honest, why bother if everything is that horrific? But kudos to her for being a fighter despite the fact that it doesn’t look like there’s much left fighting for at that point.
A little morbid on my end but definitely not a crazy thought. Right? Kinda? However, It was well done.
I freakin looove itttt the mysterious fog, the ancient giant monsters, their voice, the lone survivor, everything.
And most of all I love u Alter and all your mates. ❤️❤️❤️
Holy smokes this was excellent, I hope this director gets to work on full release horror films as the angles, sounds, lighting etc was all outstanding... very talented director whoever they are.
An admirable test of actress, a post-apocalyptic climate, where the dialogue between a mother and her dead son takes on an unparalleled meaning. She gives the right representation of who is torn between the inevitable and unaccepted reality and the state of dream and ecstasy that a mother has towards her child.
A huge thank you to you and your team for putting together such an amazing short. I loved everything about it. It really makes me want to more of this world.
Congratulations Ciarán, the film is fantastic! Glad I finally got see it. Immense props to you and the whole team!
straight the hell up my alley. Left me begging for more. what else could a writer of a film want? brought up The Mist in my mind. the scale, the locomotion of the gargantuan being. just fantastic pacing/acting. color. A+
Everything was great about this film. Especially loved the creature and it's growls.
I love to watch All the short horror film of Alter it makes me shout
I could binge watch short films on Alter for days!!!
Loads of "The Mist" feelings! I loved the ending, though I didn't get how she managed to clean up the air inside the house and spend the night without her mask.
Truly one of the best short films I've seen in ages. Brilliantly thought through and constructed. The mise-en-scene and production values look fantastic; the atmosphere is palpable; the solitary performance from the lead actress is excellent - really heartfelt; as another poster correctly mentions elsewhere - the fact that you never fully see the extent of the couch-corpse makes it all the more eerie; this film is subtle, beautifully constructed and just makes you ache for more. Plus the creature is wonderfully Lovecraftian, which is an added bonus. Thank you and congratulations on a stunning achievement!
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! Can’t write the enough words of LOVE.
Love Alter, love Terrible things! So happy to know there's people like me out there who love horror!!
Amazing thumbnail
Total 10 Cloverfield Lane vibes - with a dash of a Quiet Place, yet still uniquely different and intriguing. Well done! Loved it!
Exactly the same thought crossed my mind
I never know a postapocalyptic horror movie could actually be beautiful.
Definitely getting Mist vibes from that ending. Great little film.
Very atmospheric, and an intriguing ending. Nice job!
Certified Gold!!!!!
That was an AWESOME looking monster!
Wow, that was the most amazing film! The creature was terrifying to see in the fog. 😱
The beauty and stillness of the macabre poetry here, chills to the bone. Ending with the hero (perhaps a touch anti-hero given the conversation & circumstance??🙏🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏
"Tell me what the world was like before it hated us." Wow. That was really, really powerful. Great little film. Bravo!
great aesthetic and atmosphere
Brilliant!!! Well shot and bravo to the actor!!! I felt it! She brought me into her landscape of horror.
Wow. Just wow. You have to make this into a full length movie. ❤️👍❤️👍Bravo!! 💐
WooooW, just WooooW.... that last scene with the creature..... awesome 😍
This has been said for so many short horror films that often show less, which is is more. More to the imagination more questions more to the horror of a monster you only catch a glimpse of, almost lovecraftian. Fantastic film man and I hope we see more of this content!
Very good. Encountering that giant opens up a new mysterious chapter. I doubt we will ever get to see it in motion.
Beautiful production values.
Wow all I can say is WOW!
That definitely was one of the best alter shorts that I've seen I wish and hope that you do more on to this topic I really want you to make it full length but I know that cost a lot of money maybe do a crowdfunder.
That is quite chilling ...
Amazing atmosphere without cheap jump scares or crazy effects! Would love to watch more in this setting beautiful job❤
I was half expecting that corps to raise it's hand and say: "Hidie ho, stranger!" 🤣🤣😆
This, ALTER, is how you make a movie. The other 95% of you WASTES OF SPACE that have tried on this channel need to be on a French fry machine - not making movies. Gezus. This one is one of the best…what does that tell you?!?! No offense to this maker. But gimme a break.
Seriously - I would absolutely devote several hours to a full-length offering from Ciarán! Just brilliant. Will be actively searching for more from him…just bloody loved it!
... This feels needlessly harsh, I've only seen 1 short on this channel that I felt had a thoroughly dissapointing ending.
Oh WOW! That was unreal......the creature was mesmerizing,
This could very well be a full movie!
Very much gives off I am Legend and The Mist vibes. Love how it all remains unique regardless. Excelsior!
Terrible things or Stranger things? Movie quality is nice. Creature concept good, very alien ( mutant hammer head worm.) Potential. Worth crowd funding to get this project going in small sequels. Whats being done works. Looks great. We need more.
Holy shit this is awesome! I love post apocalyptic horror, and the opening shots with that haunting score? *Chef's kiss* 🤌
Post Apocalyptic films are something I enjoy. They are also a dime a dozen on the internet. This one started out kind of rote. Then it presented it's angle and it worked and by the end I can easily say "This is a really good film."
It starts out with a character wandering around. Many PA films have characters in gas masks and this is fine but can take away from the viewer seeing character emotions. This film addressed that with the lead taking her mask off in a sheltered area.
With a PA film there are monsters. Some are aliens, some straight up monsters, monsters of the human kind or a combination. This gives us a huge and intimidating monster. It has a feel of the monsters from The Mist. I loved how our character armed herself with the axe 🪓 but it might not be enough against that behemoth.
The work was carried by a single actress who was fantastic. This can be a challenge. My favorite part of the film, which is where it distinguished itself, was the conversation she had out loud. It was very poignant and moving.
There must not be a lot of humans left as she lit a fire which could give away location. There is horror in that level of loneliness
I loved the touch of the astronaut toy as it played into the conversation and also the camera work from the wine bottle to the body (chills).
Congratulations to Ciaran, the crew, and actress. Your piece stands out and was a joy to watch.
Peace.
Second time watching, this should be a mini series
I guess the aliens from War of the Worlds evolved into that creature at the end...
Early just about to watch the video!
oh my seems like there's way more story to tell. ugh! love it!!!
Love it, very Misty, if you know what I mean.
Holy shit!!! This was good!!!!
Well done! I love post apocalyptic films. This really draws you in and leaves you with wanting more. One suggestion, I would use a different thumb nail to save the reveal of the creature.
The Mist meets Shadow of the Colossus. I loved it.
This one hit different for me. You captured the feelings of parents whose children were brought into a cruel world so accurately. Cheers from Palestine 🇵🇸
Love these films, agree with the comments about the other films.
Fantastic. The makers of this film get what real horror is. Not monsters in broad daylight, explosions, gunfire, blood and brains all over the camera lens. But things barely seen in the distance, mysterious and terrifying. I've lost a child and I know how this woman feels, how that man must have felt.
Cloverfield vibes ✨️ I need a full film PLEEEEEASE!
This was excellent! It’s so great to hear from the creators. This Looks like a teaser for a high budget film. Well acted, shot beautifully. Great effects! Knowing the budget and the small crew who made this makes one wonder why movie budgets are so over the top. Obviously, they need larger amounts of money to produce full length films with larger crews, known actors, etc. But it’s outlandish when you hear the numbers. Crazy money prioritized and the love and passion for creating the art seems lost or at least very diluted. I absolutely agree with others here who said they wanted more and a full length film. I so want to know the backstory. 👏👏👏 Bravo to all of you! 💕
Like a glimpse of a complex drawing or painting leaves you wanting more.
I would watch a movie about this. I'm intrigued now.🤯😱✌🌻🌻
Fantastic. So atmospheric and scary.
Reminded me of the Stephen King movie 'The mist' with the creature in the mist/fallout. Excellent short.
I loved it! Very lovecraftian. Like elder gods came and destroyed the world and only a few stragglers are left. Enjoyed it, I also really liked the woman.
Hey Ciaran, This movie has shades of The Mist, Cloverfield and War of the Worlds. It also has a Walking Dead feel to it. I like how you mixed these elements and yet told an original story that left me wanting more. I hope to see you make a feature length movie one day.
I would have asked how the weather is up there.💀 I definitely wasn’t expecting the creature to be THAT tall or THAT huge.
Most of the shorts Alter shows us should be adapted into actual movies & shows but sadly Hollywood doesn’t care about others originality and amazing concepts. They just like to remake movies/shows or cancel them.
Excellently done. Left me wanting more yet well satisfied at the same time.
This was so brilliantly done ! Really hope there’s a sequel or full length feature in the works because I’d definitely want to find delve more into this desolate world of a postapocalypse , compelling stories of the survivors and whatever the hell that monster was in the toxic fog was at the end !
Already waiting for part 2 😄 Really good 👍
Gives me siren head vibes. Very spooky.
Nothing like fighting Godzilla with an ax! Good short story. I too am interest in a longer version, but sometimes its tough to live up the the teaser. Especially if you're going to be compared to the Mist & Cloverfield both of which I loved.
Siren Head's lesser known cousin, Anvil Head.
Overwhelming depressive dread at its best.
That is an awesome film. Well done! 👍🏻👍🏻
Masterpiece. The tension builds and builds. Epic quality.
Excellent work! Now I need to see more of her journey.
The creature and post-apocalyptic vibe make it a possible continuation of "Cabin in the wood"
It' EPIC. it reminds me "the mist" of Stephen King
reminds me of last night with your mother (and dad)
searching for this comment :)
Top quality! Congratulations to the team involved. Agree with other comments, should be full length film. 👏🇮🇪❤️💐
This is brilliant! Well done, everyone involved in its making!
☝️😎
I really wish we get to see a sequel. Give us more please!
Can't wait for a sequel. Or really a full movie
Beautifully acted, directed and designed. From the intimate to the immense in under 10 minutes. Bravo.
Superb work, excellent in every way. Bravo.
Probably one of the best short films I’ve seen. This is better than most full length films out now. 10/10 great job!
Enjoyed it thank you
