So did Chael!!! Undefeated undisputed. 💯
Per usual, Unc is right. You can win all the fights you want, but if nobody cares, you won’t get paid. “Win the crowd, Maximus.” That’s how you get your dollars.
Damn I love the Gladiator 🍿
marcus aurelius had a dream that was Rome.. this is not it
Idk why people are blaming Punk for this. How about blaming the guy who payed him half a mil? What was punk gonna do decline it? Lol
Facts
Plus, Punk's said multiple times that it was the UFC that approached him, not the other way 'round.
that much money is very little to Punk guy's a multi millionaire, he did it for the challenge not the money. He had huge offers from other wrestling companies when he left WWE for a lot more than half a mil.
Same thing Punk argued in WWE people with bigger names coming in taking a spot, funny how that works huh
@@jonmelendez9254 WWE is scripted bro he was told to say that…
People forget that his name added an extra 200k PPV buys to UFC 203. I’m sure Miocic and Overeem appreciated him being there.
Why would overeem care?
@@CarlosRen1776 headliners get a portion based on the buyrates
@@ChicCanyon Overeem was actually on the undercard, but he has always gotten paid by the UFC regardless
@jonmelendez9254 headliner =/= main event necessarily in this context. It just depends on if they negotiated PPV points in the contract or not.
If a guy barters a 12 fight deal with points on the back end and by fight 10 he's not drawing he would still get points on the undercard.*
Point is a guy like Overeem could definitely be getting a buyrate cut.
*these are obviously hypothetical numbers and that should he obvious but its the internet and no one understand varience or nuance so DISCLAIMER.
It’s kinda sad cause even Dana said why he was on the card. It was to make mo ey. DANA NEEDED CM THAT BAD LOL. I HOPE NOT
I actually enjoy Chael’s pro wrestling content.
I just don’t understand the Punk hate. I mean, I get if people don’t want to see him fight again, but I can’t blame the man for shooting his shot.
That's what losers do. Instead of self improvement or proving they can do better but they know they can't, know they never will, but will cry and bitch and moan about it their whole uneventful miserable lives because they just can't stfu and do it. I hope that helps clarify the hate for a man being successful despite what BS the internet says lol.
He took an opportunity from a deserving fighter. The guy had ZERO chance of ever being a decent MMA fighter. He doesn't have an athletic bone in his body
@@ben1ben2ben1 It's the story of many fighters on the roster, and always will be.
@@chadelliottfahlman Its not though. Punk is legitimately the worst fighter in UFC history. Punk is not a good enough fighter to be at your local club fight, nevermind the UFC. He took a spot from better fighters. There is no one in the UFC nearly as bad as Punk

If you had the influence and money to train full time for 6 months by a known experienced mma trainer. You could do it.
There was a ufc woman fighter thst was a former stripper a couple months back.
Pay me the same amount as Punk got and I would step in there and fight Khabib, GSP, and Jon Jones one after the other. And YES I would lose all three of those fights.

I've always felt like the revisionist history of Punk in the UFC is incredibly misunderstood. I also feel like hes the type of guy who would have done it for free. Having said that, hes back where he belongs... and hes verbally chopping down fools with one arm in a sling. Love it.
I agree cm punk loves mma like any one of us.
I truely believe his experience with wwe made him hate prowrestling for a time. He had the influence and money to explore a curiousity. He wasnt trying to railroad any ufc fighter
Facts
People that have never even trained insulting Punk for getting in the cage, losing and then getting back in the cage is still wild to me.
Punk’s always had my respect. He loves MMA and wanted to challenge himself. If it was about the money, he wouldn’t still be doing CFFC commentary.
Fuck him! He took a spot from a deserving MMA fighter because he wanted attention. No way was he delusional enough to think he would ever be good. The guy has zero athletic ability
For almost 7-8 years right ?
At the end of the day, it's about who draws more and Punk drew more than DJ has ever drawn in any of his fights.. Punk brought in a whole new audience (wwe fans).. He was a mega star in the wwe, of course he was going to make a lot more money than the champions. I get that it is unfair but when you understand the business, it's not a huge surprise..
The problem is the UFC is supposed to be a legitimate fighting promotion of the sport of MMA. Sports by nature are supposed to a be a true meritocracy. Paying a WWE ballerina more the pound for pound best fighter on the planet at the time shits all over that, and while profitable in the short term, it hurts the UFCs credibility in the long run. Anyone who has followed this sport for any amount of time knew Phil Brooks was going to fail miserably. Between nonsense like Punk and The UFC allowing JBJ to duck Tom Aspinall and not unify the belt, the promotion is becoming a bit of a joke
DJ is just jealous and bitter. He fights in some organization no one watches, he looks like just a dude that an average Joe 200 pounder could probably beat up. And that’s why he doesn’t sell PPVs. Never went out of his way to try to become a draw
@@joeabernathy5402 I agree..but that's just how it is though.. Can't be justified but it's the entertainment business as well. Either sell your fights more or be okay with what you're paid.. Back in the day, Martina Navratilova Was being interviewed by a reporter, She was asked if she was upset that Chris. Everett, who had nowhere near her accolades, was making so much money in endorsements, far more than What Martina was making in winning tournament purses, And back then, she was winning most of the major tournaments...... Martina then said simply, that money Isn't there for me. If Chris Everett didn't exist I still wouldn't have that..... She actually didn't say the second part, but everyone, including the reporter, understood exactly what she meant and she was right. Sometimes the simple fact is the other guy Brings something to the table that you simply don't have available to you. And they can make a ton more money good for them. 👍🏾😊
💯. And I'm happy to lose, so others can win.
Boxing feels the same way about fighters coming over to boxing, the way MMA feels about pro wrestlers coming to MMA, the way pro wrestlers feel about fighters coming to pro wrestling.

Well said
The fact that Chael even has to make this video shows how clueless most MMA fighters and fans are to the business .
Chael's breakdowns of how the industry works in videos like this are awesome.
Chael with the glasses looks like a hitman. Love it!
I remember watching this go down as a fan that tries to jear a bit from everyone.
He was truly humble coming in.
The point of CM Punk not asking to be signed, not asking to be PPV, not asking for the money... That right there should get him at minimum just ignored instead of hated on.
Who is gonna say no to life long dreams for good money with a big audience?
The answer, only effin idiots say no to that.
Call average guy tell em they gotta box Canelo (not win) and that you'll pay them a million bucks and people would pay to watch it live... Most guys i know are taking that deal zero hesitation
All props to Punk for actually stepping foot in a cage. I remember being super surprised hearing he was giving it a shot despite already being in his mid to late 30s with around 15 years of pro wrestling abuse on his body.
@@CrayTom So? Dude still gave it a go despite having no business doing so. I give him props for that, it’s not like he was hurting for money.

Combat fans love to shit on pro wrestlers calling them fake fighters, and the one time a pro wrestler tries to prove hes a tough guy by getting into a REAL fight, everybody shit on him 🤦♂️ win or lose, CM Punk proved hes a tough guy by signing up to a professional MMA fight which is the closest thing we have to a 'fight to the death' in modern society

I've never been super into wrestling until I recently started watching shoot interviews with people like Greg Valentine, which means I've seen all the recent stuff about CM Punk and Tony Kahn and the AEW. All I knew about CM Punk was when he tried UFC. I really didn't think much of him then. WEll I just watched the match where he won the belt from John Cena. CM Punk is a legit star and a great worker. That was match was great, he sold and sold and sold and sold and so did John Cena. On one hand I can see how he's basically doing a Mel Gibson in Lethal Warrior imitation, but he's doing on the mat in the WWE against some really great talent and selling it like a genius. I have mad respect for CM Punk now that I've actually seen him "wrestle".
Punk answered the question about it correctly. He said hes an ambitious person and he took challenge because it scared him and he wanted to see if he could do it. And he got the offer he got from them and he took it like alot of people would. And he did the training and made the weight and made the walk and people can laugh at him about how the fights went but its still a goal he achieved.
And guys like sergio pettis who trained in the same Gym with him at the time said he was in there everyday training as hard he could but at 37 years old and 20 years of wrestling Injurys and not being very experienced it was always gonna be a big ask but he was a name and he brought viewers and thats why they brought him in to do it.
How did he bring viewers? UFC 225 only sold 200k PPVs which is a massive flop and way bellow average for a UFC card
@@ben1ben2ben1Punk debuted at UFC 203, which had 650k buys. 225 was his second fight, and by that point the interest was gone.
"The sense the god gave geese." That has just gone straight into my phrase deck. How is this the first I'm hearing it 😅
If anything, CM Punk further proved the authenticity of MMA with his participation. He lost bad and I don't recall him saying that it doesn't take hard work to hang with pro MMA guys.
Cm punk is one of the biggest wrestling stars of a generation. But he was always known more as a strategist/on the mic. He was a great heel that broke the norms of wrestling. He didn’t start training mma until he was like 30. He literally killed AEW Bc they tried to bury him . He is the biggest star in wrestling today and he was gone for 7 years. Watch his return to wrestling in aew or his return to wwe. You’ve never once seen a crowd pop like that in MMA
The longer the video the better. Bring back the 15-20 per topic. We love uncle chael
I thought uncle Cheal was talking about WWE champions😂😂😂🤣
This is the one similarities besides the promos that WWE and UFC have in common. If you're a draw and brought seats and viewers, expects big paychecks even if you have no business on being in that organization like Punk in the MMA world and Rousey in the pro wrestling world. Unfair to think bout it but it's business.
Punk is in the business of selling tickets.
The people complaining about him are in the business of sports.

There is no #2 without #1.
It’s as simple as this CM Punk= Big time money. Warner bros/disvoveries nickname for him was “1 bill phil”
Can’t forget he’s still the CURRENT AEW CHAMPION, even though he’s not even in the company

WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM ON UFC COMMENTARY ON A FIGHT NIGHT CARD I THINK IT'LL BE REFRESHING AND HE'S ALREADY KILLING IT WITH MORGAN IN CFFC
DJ is way more valuable today because of what he did in the UFC and has a great career that does not require him to get kicked in the head. He is a GOAT in the cage and out. It is human for him to want more for what he was able to do. Even if it is not apart of the entertainment market.
He actually has no value to the UFC and that’s why they didn’t hesitate to ship him out. He is only known to the casual fan and the guy is just too small and admitted he never worked hard to become a draw. He just wanted to fight and go home and that’s why he was so disliked by the organization. It’s an entertainment business
It's funny how the people started supporting him on CZcams AFTER his mma career is nearly over😂
He had a whole career on streaming Twitch before this which was just as dead as his fight career😅
I used to pay for his ppvs back in the day cus he was actually an exciting fighter AND the hype around those fight cards was deader than apex cards today.

@elevatedeli He was jealous or else how do you explain him watching another man’s pockets. Why did he continually bring up Punk making half a million per fight? That’s why he’s only known to the hardcore fans
@@johnnguyen6469exactly. These fighters don’t realize that you have to be unique, entertaining and bring viewers in. Just fighting in the cage and leaving isn’t enough.
@Afflux212 and especially when you’re fighting men who weight 125 pounds. The normal average Joe do not fear any of these fighters and don’t think they are that scary so their fighting along will not be a draw. The 125 pound division is like the WNBA
Fighters who were Mad about CM Punk coming to the UFC either didn't understand how they were paid or didn't like getting paid more money. ESPECIALLY the Champs. He shed Some blood and tears for it. 🤷🏾♂️
Are you forgetting he also fought a bum after and he got his ass kicked again lol
The WWE schedule is brutal though. A person may get paid more than an actual flight but the schedule and constant travel may not be worth that money. The Rousey example for instance, even if she got double the money she would be working like hundreds of times more.
Blame dana if your mad punk was there to draw tickets which he did .. and dana said that . He made tickets jump like 200k .. theres champions rn that cant do that
What the fuck are you talking about? Punks last UFC PPV, UFC 216, flopped bad and only sold 200k buys. The live gate was only $677,999 which is fucking terrible. UFC 217 right after sold 900k PPV buys and had a live gate of $6,200,000
Don’t take that away from DJ. It’s all he really has to cling too. Guys want more but don’t even understand the business. Without entertainment draws the talented guys wouldn’t get any viewers. That’s why boxers have 30 fights in free entry shows before their big pay day. Waiting for an undercard of a bigger name in media. Not an undercard of a more talented fighter. Just a bigger draw. Love DJ. But he didn’t do a great job selling fights. Could be the goat too. Just was more concerned being the nice guy & being real instead of putting on a show in the media. His old division is wide open in UFC right now. Instead of building a fight & trash talking a little bit. Trying to get resigned & right into a title fight. He’s trying to make an enemy. Imagine doubling down but still wanting that opportunity. It’s self sabotage.
6:02 He went hard on this one
What do you think about wrestlemania next weekend Uncle Chael?
people who draw money and bring eyeballs to a company that he work/fight, will get rewarded handsomely.
It is just simple folks.
How did Punk bring eyeballs to the company? His last UFC PPV flopped big time and only sold 200k lol. Thats way bellow the average UFC card

Is it just me or is it that Uncle Chael is just dropping the truth now. He used to not be so blunt with his points, used to speak in allegories and stuff and its almostt as if hes pissed off, like he used to tell chandler to look for a different fight by saying something like. Chandler and mcgregors path do not need to cross, he can be a star, now hes saying Chandler YOURE A STAR AND OLD, IF YOU WAIT YOU WILL GET NOTHING. GO OUT THERE AND MAKE THE MONEY, MCGREGOR WONT COME BACK. Maybe I changed but i believe theres a different way uncle chael is dropping the videos, he used to not give out the secrets, he would allude to them now hes just telling all the secrets. I love it. I wonder why though.
Chael always hits
I would think most people would understand this. But amazingly a lot don’t.
Is this building towards an angle between Chael and Punk? I’m so here for it if that’s the case.
Genuine question here, does nfl pay players based off performance? Or is it how many people come to see that player? I think both come into play obviously, but what’s more important?
Good comment, it's both, but ultimately how much money you can earn the team/company is what your worth is.
The NFL is a team sport brudda
Your NFL contract will be largely based on performance but the endorsements come when you're proven to be a marketable star. It's the difference between a Chad Johnson/Randy Moss type vs a Marvin Harrison
As a C.M Punk fan,I appreciate this from uncle Chael
I hope Tom Aspinal watches this video and it finally clicks in his head why he hasnt earned a title shot over Stipe. Maybe he'll get back in the Octagon and defend his belt
What? Stipe has never been a huge draw. Jones just wants an easy fight, and then he'll ride off into the sunset. It doesn't seem like most fans are even excited to watch Jones beat the piss out of old past his prime Stipe.
@@bonafidebusta4977 Stipe is a Legend in the sport like GSP. He carries multiple generations of MMA fans not just a few teenage fans from Guru like Tom. You all claim its an easy fight but Stipe and Jones are closer in age than Tom and Jones so by your own logic Tom wants an easy fight against Jones rather than going against the new generation that he'd have to fight as champ. Its a very bad look for him to not be taking big fights right now because he'll do the same with the belt. Pretty much every Heavyweight in the top 5 has had a fight now so Tom cant fight until the Fall. He sat out an entire year after winning the belt, how does that build his brand and audience. It doesn't
@@chiquita683 here's the issue with saying Tom wants an easy fight. Jon Jones is the heavyweight champ. If he's not willing to fight the next in line, he should vacate the belt, and not be fighting a man who is past his prime and inactive. I'd agree with your logic if Tom was calling out old inactive fighters, but he's simply not. He's calling out the Heavyweight Champ. If you're too old to hold that belt, then you should either retire, or fight the top guys till someone takes it from you. Prime Stipe would be an awesome fight. Old marble mouth Stipe? Not so much.

DJ wasn’t blaming CM Punk he was blaming the UFC for not paying campions, especially ones with as many title defenses as he had, an appropriate amount for what they achieved and for representing the company as a champion
Nobody got angry at ronda rousey for doin the same thing only opposite
Let’s also not pretend at the time majority of fans cared about DJ. And fans will say they gave a fuck he got traded for Askren but you tell me why tf the numbers weren’t crazy when DJ fought then? When DJ left he left when he finally had something to leverage his pay to start to head where he wanted it. Henry cejudo beat him in a very close fight. He could win that fight. He had a trilogy on his hands. For the belt against an Olympic gold medalist. It was ready to sell itself. TJ was coming down to 125, the division was about to make its real mark. DJ left too soon imo.
