    I've similar story. Recently I was interviewed and got architectural problem to solve. In couple of minutes I figured out solution and explained it to the interviewer. He said my solution was wrong and proceed to explain exact same solution that I offered. When I pointed to him that was exactly what I said, his response was "yeah, I guess you right". Day later I got email that I didn't get a job.

    The problem with that kind of question is you’re screwed either way. If you answer honestly they reject you. If you lie they reject you for being dishonest. It’s like the “would you still work here if you won the lottery” question

    The other day I decided to make a list of all interviews I got: 20 total, 4 offers - 1 offer was a co-op, 1 was a temp contract, 1 offer rescinded due to covid, 1 offer I accepted in March and am still waiting for a security clearance to start (it’s December now). 2 cancelled at start of 2022 tech layoffs, Google and Amazon, I was on the last Amazon round and I was pretty confident about that one. Actually another cancelled with Google, had a phone screen with a recruiter that got laid off leading up to it.
    So 20 total, 4 offers, 3 canceled, 13 rejections.

    I got asked in a phone call interview: "How many windows are in New york city?" I responded "Well a lot of windows, definitely more windows than there are buildings". That same evening I received a rejection email. Note I have never been to New York city, the company was based in Texas and I didn't understand how any of that was related to the role of "Python Developer".

      I'd say it depends on how you're counting windows. Are we counting residential buildings? How about office towers? Are we talking about the city city or the larger area?
      I'd say that given that the population is around 11 million at least ( I forgot ) and we came up with an arbitrary ratio of there being 11 windows per person that means there's at least a million windows.
      There might not be a great way to get even a rough estimate but if the person is asking that as a question you have to consider that there's a good reason behind it and give it some careful thought.

    From what I've gathered, generally a good answer is that you're looking for the best fit and to ask clarifying questions about the culture and work place to help your decision making process. Obviously there are too many variables to say this would work in every scenario, but I think it's an honest and flexible answer.

    • @alexbrady6049
      @alexbrady6049 Před 7 měsíci

      Yeah, there's probably a way to say you're really looking for a company with blah blah culture and using blah blah exciting technology and that you'd love to learn more about [Interviewing company] to see if it matches what you're looking for.
      A company asking that question and then not liking an honest answer isn't probably a place I would want to work anyways.

    The entire tech industry itself is fucked up and somehow companies have became cocky i feel. Its way more difficult now to even enter as junior SDE in any company let alone the MAANG. I can see on linkedin companies reposting the same job opening multiple times even after having 300+ appilcants (sometimes even 1000+) , Entry level positions as per Linkedin now requires min 3 yrs of exp as per majority of job posts (I mean when the f**k did that happen , how are amateurs supposed to get in ) , Also the skills requirements even for SDE 1 is puzzling (add to that 4-5 rounds of interview he/she has to go). Imagine if AI becomes mainstream.... DARK TIMES AHEAD.
