Königssee + Obersee 🇩🇪 A Magical Day Trip in the Bavarian Alps + Kaiserschmarrn!
Vložit
- čas přidán 29. 06. 2021
- We took our four kids on a day trip to see the MAGICAL Königssee and Obersee lakes in Berchtesgaden National Park, and we were blown away! It is a breathtaking place and is definitely a must-see in Germany (Deutschland). We're so happy we were able to show our children more of the beauty in Germany, and only a 45-minute drive away. We got to eat at a restaurant for the first time since we moved to Germany and were able to try Kaiserschmarrn for the first time! We hope you enjoy seeing how our family experienced this special park. We plan to go back to hike and stay overnight, too.

I´ve never seen a kid as young as Grayson speaking german that fluently and with hardly no accent at all in such a short time - highly impressed!
I guess he has a talent for languages! We are surprised by it as well.
All of you are learning German crazy fast. It's so impressive!
yes, that's absolutely true.
Kids learn fast...
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife So that could lead into one of his professions - to be a translator of one culture, one languague, one understanding of life, to another . . .
I just had the thought that your family and friends back in the US really have the best home videos of your family - and they are always up to date + somehow with you this way.
Yes that’s true! Many of our family does say they stay more updated with our videos and posts in Germany than they did when we lived in USA!
I love hearing the kids talk German! and I Love hearing you as parents talk more German now 😍 best parts of the videos:)
Oh good, I’m glad you like that part!
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife :-))
How beautiful are your children? And your family? Amazing!
Thank you so much! 💖🙏🏻
Sitting here in Florida watching your new video, and my eyes are leaking... I so very much miss my born to country, and now live vicariously through your videos. You are so very lucky!
Awe 😭😭 your homeland is a special place.
As you love water and forest so much
- a boat tour through Spreewald (near Berlin), trips on the Mecklenburger Seenplatte and days at the sandy beaches on the Baltic Sea
- would be so amazing for your family! 🧡
We would love both of those things!
Pls come to Schleswig-Holstein most northern part of Germany❤️
Really nice destination ideas! Lets me want to add some myself: I recommend visiting the Lüneburger Heide (Lueneburg Heath?) in Lower Saxony, the North Sea and the mud flat, the Eifel (you can bath in old vulcan craters there), maybe wait after they rebuilt, and the Sächsische Schweiz (Saxon Switzerland I think). Also you should visit Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin and Dresden.
Grayson speaking German in such a short time is amazing. I love seeing the kids enjoying nature and play without beeing afraid of insects and plants like I often seen it in the US. You all adapted very good to your new home.
I love to just imagine the stories the kids can tell every time you travel back to the United States to visit family or when you move back. Even on job applications and applications for College and University this is going to look great for them.
I sure hope so!
You are such a beautiful family ! What great memories will your kids have of these times when you took them on so many unforgettable trips .
Last time I was in southern Germany was about 60 years ago when I was a kid and my parents took me there and the impressions of the mountains and beautiful lakes have remained in my memory.
Congrats on another gorgeous video and professional editing .
Hi Grandma K! Thank you, you always leave such kind and thoughtful comments.
It's amazing to see how everybody's German is improving, i'm impressed! Also, I love watching your videos and seeing all these places from your point of you, even though i myself am from Bavaria, thank you for sharing your experiences!
Awe thank you, we so appreciate your comments. 💖
well mannered kids.
8:17 "Wir sind kalt" is literally translating the English words. But in German we say "Uns ist kalt" = "It's cold to us". But you're doing great in learning German. Well done :-)
I want to add the fact that, translating it literally may cause misunderstandings. "Du bist kalt" will be understood as "you are an emotionally cold person" or "cold hearted". Whereas "Dir ist kalt" means "you are cold".
@@Herzschreiber yes, and a similar problem with "i am hot" : _mir ist heiß_ refers to temperature while _ich bin heiß_ rather would be said by a (presumably) sexy person about herself :-)
@@Anson_AKB Oh, you both are right, I didn't think about that. Thanks for adding.
Ahhh thank you!
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife you're welcome. I hope I haven't been too rude...But, well... you know: Germany. XD
Königssee has been and will always be my most favorite place in the world, ever since my very first visit over 20 years ago. It's wonderful that you all spent the time to hike all the way back to Obersee. Eventually when your kids have more energy, and path is open, you could actually walk to the alm across Obersee and get fresh churned butter on bread. Lovely stuff.
Yes!! I really wanted to get them to walk to the Alm. But we need to go back on a sunnier and warmer day anyway, so we will just have to return!
You guys are amazing,It’s so nice watching your trips and how you enjoy Bavarian 😘
your videos make me happy, they make me feel like everything's ok with the world, thank you for that
💚💚😍 we're so glad, thank you! There is still SO MUCH good left in our world!
Thanks for sharing that with us. Such an adorable, friendly family! Great composition of nature, music, experiences, authentic emotions and feelings and curiosity about new things and impressions. Please keep on doing that. Hope you still have enough time to enjoy everything in real life as it is so much work to take such amazing pictures! Warmest regards from the North of Germany
Thank you so much! 💖 Yeah it is a lot of work to vlog. I might not film every trip so that we can also relax and enjoy a trip or two.
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife You should take out the family to a trip to Regensburg, where I went to university. You will love it.
@@SchoppeH oh we have a friend here in our neighborhood who is from Regensburg!

It’s hard to take an ugly video of Königssee!

I love y'all! You're such a wonderful family. Good bless you all.
Thank you! Blessings to you as well. 💖
We went last year to Königssee when we stayed in Berchtesgaden. I loved the horn on the boat. We could even hear the echo on the return trip from the other boat!
Yes! Love that part.
A big ❤️ for the music in your vlogs 💐
Thank you 💖
Your camera work is really top notch! You caught the scenery and your family perfectly! 😍
Schön, damit ihr hier bei uns wart.
Ich lebe hier am Königssee und freue mich wenn so nette Besucher bei uns sind.
Nice Visitor🤗
it makes us so happy. when we see people traveling with children. for we think children learn so much from traveling :)
Yes I hope they do!
... Great Video. Great Family. Great Location. 🍀
I just keep thinking how magical it is without all the huge tourist crowds and while I’m sad for the tourism businesses, what a lucky time for your family! Glad to see you enjoy it!!
The song's you used in the video make it look more magical ✨️ God bless you all
You win my award for Best …Video, Best Photography, Best Music…Best! I can hardly wait to return to Germany. Thank You… for all the work & love you put into your videos!
She is talented isn't she?!? Glad you are enjoying our videos.
Breathtaking landscapes - and great video! :)
Nice, looks like you had a great "Vormittag" at the Königssee. You've probably already heard of it, but Berchtesgaden made me think of the salt mine they have close to there. It's actually a working salt mine and the Bad Reichenhall salt comes from there. There is a part of it you can tour and you go into the mountain on a little train like the miners used at one point and within you go down a couple of wooden slides and even cross a lake within the caves on some floats. Plus you learn about salt mining. It's actually pretty cool and I'm sure the kids would enjoy it. If you just google Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden, it should just pop up 😉
I also highly recommend it...
Yes our kids would really enjoy that!
Apart from the (obvious) fact that you are a lovely family I wanted to say that I really like the style of your videos showing some everyday impressions as an intro!
Very absorbing coverage of the amazing site.
Their sons remind me of my little brother haha, they're adorable!😆
Really nice video and the music fits perfectly!
Thank you!
Sehr schöne Kinder haben sie und gut erzogen
Fantastic video in an awesome area of Bavaria. May I, however, remind viewers from outside Germany that this only one small aspect of German geography, landscape, culture, architecture, etc. Germany also has fantastic big rivers - the Danube and Rhine are just the biggest ones, with castles on every other hilltop; There's the North Sea and the Baltic Sea with beaches; the wine regions with vinyards everywhere - especially in the fall, when the leaves turn golden, and every village has their own wine festival. Then there is truly amazing industrial culture in the cities. And so much more ... Hopefully you will be able to see and vlog these, too in the future.
Oh yes for sure. We want to take the kids to the Rhine and Mosel rivers and see all of the castles. Germany is a beautiful country!
obligatory comment is obligatory
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife Don't forget the North of Germany, like Bremen, Hamburg, Lübeck, nor the "North Sea" or "East Sea" (aka the Baltic Sea). Visit Islands like Langeoog or Wangerooge, where no cars are allowed, to instantly jump into "Urlaub" or vacation feeling.
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife Go there in the time of fall. It's a cool thing to see the grapes on the grapevines or taste "Federweisser" (the first white wine of the year).
@@marrykurie48 You always go east, but check out west of your location
That video is great! The footage is so beautiful and I love seeing you exploring and enjoying the nature.
I really love watching your videos and I am always looking forward 😊💕
Sorry for my bad English 🙈
Your English is great! Thank you for the nice comments!
Thank you for sharing your experience. Its fun to watch. 😊 Grayson sounds like a german kid. 👍
Thank you - he’s worked SO hard in 4th klasse! He has a lot of homework everyday and his teacher is strict, but it helps him to learn German faster.
Very nice. Thank you for this video. I liked your kid speaking about the island in the middle of nowhere.. and your reply to that..haha.. Very entertaining and useful. We are going to the place his weekend.
Are you! It’s so beautiful - enjoy your trip!
Königssee is amazing... I was there in 2019... thanks for sharing this
So nice you were able to visit!
Impressive language skills! Your kids are so cute and will learn German without much effort. Hard to keep up with them😉. I've never been to Königssee, but after watching this perfect video, I will.
So gorgeous landscape....
Greetings from Karlsruhe.
Hi from Karlsruhe! Thank you so much for your kind comments.
wonderful nature and wonderful video, thanks !
Thank you!
Sehr schön. Und wegen Corona auch nicht so überfüllt!
Your son's German is so good! Sounds perfect.
Kaiserschmarrn is fairly easy to make at home, you should give it a try! Only need to be patient so it doesn't burn in the pan ;D
If your kids enjoy being in nature, for a future trip you could go to a "Barfußpfad", a barefoot trail (?), don't know if that's a thing in the US but I think they are quite common in Germany. I went to some when I was in elementary school to learn about the different materials and textures of the forest. They usually are not only for entertainment but also for education :)
Wow, Eure Kinder sprechen aber schon sehr gut Deutsch. Wunderbar!
Dankeschön!
7:19 As long as you can get hot chocolate in the middle of nowhere, you can’t get lost completely. Very consoling. 🤗
As always great pictures and music, love your videos. You should work for the Bavarian Tourism Agency…
Thank you so much!
So joyful to watch you... Next time you go to Königssee you might want to have a look at the Bobsledding Track and maybe even have a ride down
No way!!! That would be so much fun!
Beautiful! Ich habe Fernweh (the opposite of 'Heimweh' (homesick)). ;-)

Looks wonderful! At the moment I’m sitting inside my car watching while eating dinner on a Rastplatz ! I’m in Bavaria (lower Franconia )until the 10th of July to visit my best friend!
Oh wonderful! Franconia is a beautiful area. Enjoy your time with your friend!
Love the video! I've been there a few times, and I took a friend from Wales there too. He absolutely loved it! (we had better weather)
Funnily enough, my boss (also American) will take his family (wife and 3 kids) down to Berchtesgaden this weekend! I'll show him your video. 😃
Oh cool about your boss! And thank you!
Such a great video, thank you for that, it makes my day! The Königsseee is really worth a visit and I remember when I was there the first time I thought "Wow, this can't be real, this must be some kind of theater setting". But nobody could imagine (and build) a theater setting like that, right?
Right?! It doesn’t look real! It’s out of this world, so incredibly gorgeous. So glad our video made your day, thank you for commenting and watching!
You could buy such a "Wanderstock" Stick with the Königsee-Batch. You get a lot of batches to collect in Bavaria or Austria for example. After some trips your stick is full of these batches.
It was a little tradition in my fathers generation.
Oh cool! The boys would really like that!
i still have two such filled sticks from my childhood, and their handle looks like _Eispickel_ rather than walking sticks.
Beautiful scenery. Isn’t it?
Sehr schön gemacht viele Grüße
oh lovely it looks :) I am so missing travel now .. its refreshing to see that its cold as well when we are going thru a huge heat wave now of 40+ c
Oh gosh, are you on the west coast of North America?
I like your videos a lot! :)
Thank you for showing how beautiful germany is ❤️ love your videos !
Wunderbar
Good that a little bad weather does not discourage you from exploring :D
As the Germans, Swedes, Dutch, Norwegian and Finnish say…There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife 🤣👍
Oh that church with the round roofs down by the lake... My grandma has a wall tapestry of it. I think she bought it when she visited down there. I've never been there but I always recognize it 😅
Oh how special!
The walking sticks were very popular until the early 2000s amongst hiking clubs. After completion of various paths with varying degrees of difficulties you would receive a metal plate to signify completion. People would travel all over the country to wander and collect.
Our boys would love that!
I'm certain that they have a Wanderverband near you. Google Wanderverband Bayern it may be up your alley. Collecting those plates is a fun way to collect memories and be amongst nature. PS children's activities are also offered. Many thanks for sharing your adventures
Cows are udderly awesome. Quite moooooving.
Hahahaha!
The camera at the beginning of this video is super mega fantastic. So much detail and depth.
Oh thank you! I actually wasn’t using a good lens for landscape videography, so I was disappointed with most of my own shots.
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife don't be so hard on yourself.. CZcams conversion algorithm is very crude anyway and to add to that for some reasons it started to prefer 360p so I had to manually put it in 1080p to see more details.. I think you are doing great job. I'm looking forward your travels outaide alps, you are going to have a blast.
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife Don't worry. In my opinion it is impossible to catch up the whole beauty of that magical landscape by filming it. You did a great job, your shots are amazing but the best way is just being there, relaxing and enjoying everything the nature has to offer. Thank you for uploading this video and for sharing facts about the two lakes and the region of Berchtesgaden. Listening to the echo was like "Wow". (You can hear it pretty well in the video).

@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife You guys inspired me to check out summer holiday options in the Königsee area for later this summer
Quite packed there despite Corona!
Aww.. if you had announced that earlier, I'd have hopped over and said hello. I live about 20km away from there. Nice to see that you liked our picturesque landscape. :-)
Oh very cool! We want to go back in a sunny day. It was so cold and rainy!
Sooo nice. Thank you for sharing. We’ve been to Königssee (just drove by for lunch from Croatia). As I will be moving soon near Munich (due to a new job), we will be exploring more the Königssee & Obersee. I am excited!!!
You will LOVE it! It’s a truly magical place!
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife I bet! I was fascinated already through your video😍
It's so beautyful 😍 My profilepicture is from the Alm at the other side of Obersee. Its stunning over there 😊
Oh I can see that, even though the picture is so tiny.
Nice video, regarding the boats both versions are let's say true. It started with the hunting part and in the meantime they only use electrical engines to spare the sea (no risks of oil/diesel spills and so on).
Oh cool, both are correct!
Your son already got it right :D sounds like a real german ..most germans would pronounce it Köni"ch"see with a soft ch instead of a hard g wich would almost sound like a k :D :D thats subtle but very distinctive :D, kids adapt soo fast :O
It’s amazing how fast kids learn!
Agreed on the "ch" part, however, it is not typical to Bavaria. So he is about to be a German - Poliglot 😍😍😍.
Königssee is so so beautiful. It reminded me auf new zealand.
We’d both love to see NZ one day!
As a precaution, I carry my passport, residency card, and driver's license anytime Mike and I go on an adventure. Mike suggested that I do this when we first moved here, and it has just become a habit. Great video! I haven't really traveled south yet. We are staying as local as possible right now.
Same here, staying local. Are you also an expat/immigrant here in Germany? Yes we hadn’t received yet our residence cards when we went on this trip. Now we have them so it’d be easier to travel. We were told not to leave the country until our residence cards came as it’d be difficult to get back in.
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife, yes. I am an American expat living in Northern Germany. I am glad you have your cards. It makes everything easier.
Everybody’s German is improving! So great! Keep enjoying your German experience! Beautiful scenery. Do you guys plan on travelling to the other Bundesländer as well?
Yes we do! We wanted to explore our area of Germany first because it’s all so new to us.
What a beautiful place.
what a good camerawork, and Kaiserschmarrn after a good hikingtour is always delicious; there is so much in Berchtesgaden to see; Rodelbahn, Salzbergwerk, with the Cablecar up to watzmann near to 2000m
Thank you! So wonderful you were there as a child. 💖
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife not as achild, as an adult i had a job in TS over 10 Years
Fun fact: there ARE mountain goats (Gämsen) living wild in these mountains (I’ve seen them myself)!
Wen your kids are older and can stand really big hikes, you’ve got to start at Bartholomä and hike up to some of the mountain huts (with dorms and food to buy) up above those places!
That would be awesome!
When you come back you definitely have to do the hike to the far end of the Obersee. It's steep and you'll need good shoes but man it's worth it! You'll find the Salet-Alm back there where you can get some ridiculous good ham and cheese, and fresh milk as well. Also you'll have the chance to see the waterfall from up close.
i would be more than happy to show you around in munich. Its a great city and so much to do with kids.
We would love that!
It's really cool to see you guys discover and explore all these things as a family.
So wonderful open minded, I'm so excited to see all your creative and different videos.
Europe has some weird borders, sometimes to go to a place in Germany you have to cross two borders, usually with the European Union it's very easy, but with the covid 19 situation it's a little bit difficult. In the moment I have my passport always with me, you never know.
But the good thing is that every region offers a lot of opportunities to do something, it's all on us.
Yes COVID has made crossing EU borders difficult, another sad part about this terrible virus. Thank you for the nice comments as always, Robert!
Yes, the borders are sometimes strange here: You can only get to Kleinvalsertal Austria via Germany. Here at Lake Constance, you're always in Switzerland, whether you like it or not! 🤣
Again a very nice video! I was there nearly 40 years ago in my childhood, but I can remember the thing with the echo :-). It seems as if your trip was a few weeks ago? You should return when it is warm and sunny!
Yes indeed - we do need to return when it is warmer! We did. This trip during the Pentacost holidays at the very end of May. It takes a while to edit and get these videos ready and we got a little behind!
What do your children think about living in Germany? There were many changes in life. Old friends leaving behind, new friends difiicult to get because of a different language. New culture ... and so on.
Yeah it has been difficult and fun at the same time. Leaving friends and family behind was the hardest part. And adjusting to school here has been a HUGE challenging. Lots of culture shocks and language issues.
I'm curious about what you they think after one, two and three years.
@@ThePixel1983 yeah, me too! We plan to do a school update video in the fall. 4th klasse has been the hardest. Our son has soooo much hausaufgaben. But he’s the one that speaks German the best, so maybe it’s because of his strict teacher!
Flädlesuppe, oh boy ... Yum!
It was so yummy!
@@MyMerryMessyGermanLife it's thin pancake stripes - add it to your own repertoire!
Btw "Flädle" is the diminutive form of "Fladen" in Swabian / Bavarian / southern German accent, which depicts a pancake.
See also "Fladenbrot", which is a flat / thin rounded (kind of) bread.
There's also "Der Kuhfladen", which is a bit different from food products ... They all only share the shape! ;-)
Willkommen zu Hause!
I was there a lot with my grandpa when I was younger
What wonderful memories those must be!
Good editing and content creation
Thank you!
I love Kaiserschmarrn too! Anyway, it was just a shame that you had kind of terrible weather for a visit in June, you have to go again when it is sunny!
Yeah it was a shame. We thought the weather was going to be good but then it changed as we were driving!
