Boardwalk Empire, was such a great show. Never felt that it got the critical acclaim it deserved.
I just saw Regina SPecktor in Ithaca, NY last night and she rocked my socks off!!!
Still loving this version ❤️
"Ladies and Germs, please put your hands together for that doll of desire, the princess of punchlines-- please give it up for the one, the only-- Harleen Quinzel!"
Excellent version hard to compare 👍 masterpiece 👏
Thanks so much Appreciated
Thanks Jim
Again, she is not covering Billy Holiday! The song was first popularized by Mistinguett in France. Billy's version is Jazz, and the original is foxtrot. The first singer to sing it English was Fanny Brice (she also stepped a bit away from classic foxtrot version). So you can call it Mistinquett's or Fanny Brice's cover. The most amazing thing, that Regina is doing classic foxtrot version, and I love it.

@barhanita
Thank you! Your 100 correct and thanks for that! Also Edith piaf did a cover but even she said supposedly that it wasn't right for her 😮..she had respect for her fellow artists
brilliant!!!!
This is great...
This is a much better version than the one that's most commonly found on the internet
preach.
The music is by Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks. Vocals are done with various artists. I particular like this one with Regina Spector.
YOU TELL EM! Plus, don't forget that Regina still had a lot of her sonatas in her new album besides the two new style ones, AND she has a sonata completely in Russian. In my book, thats a win.

My sis: "Thanks for taking my boyfriend, R.S. ...
...and teaching me that I was worth more than this."
Bless, love.
There is a version done in a 1930s movie musical.
A great addition to the Billie Holiday version.

Interesting song structure. The wallowing A section followed by the kind of upbeat but resigned B section is a pretty unconventional take on an abusive relationship
Spotify blocked this one….. and I have to listen to it here use my mobile data
it's not a Billy Holiday cover. Billy Holiday changed this song to sound like old high quality jazz. Her version (still a cover) is gorgeous. But this is originally a French fox trot song that became popular by Mistinguett, and Regina is keeping it fox trot. If anything, her cover is closer to the original that Billy Holiday's.

@paulinhabrener I still think Regina is an incredible talent, i have been a fan since before Far and Begin to Hope and have seen her live 3 times. I just think that her minimalistic sound had so much more raw and beautiful sounds and forced her to be more creative in her themes. I don't mind her having a band, but some of the re-made songs just lack their power and their majesty with her new 'budget'. I'm not sure she knows why having just her piano and a drumstick previously made her so good.
@Morphindel: Excuse me, how is her music "not as good as it used to be"? I understand "Far" is a more conventional album, but she is still one of the best musicians we have today. I see a lot of people complaining that her latest CD was different from her earlier years, when it was just her and the piano, but it's still remarkable, catchy and deep. Regina is one of the few artists today that make music they want to make. And she's still brilliant. Okay, sorry for my rant. :)
Mistinguett 'Mon Homme' 1920.
The Nighthawks (the band that is backing Regina) play every Monday and Tuesday at Iguana now ! 240 W.54th St NYC [between 8th / Broadway] 8pm-11pm 212 765 5454 for reservations !
why can i NEVER find lyrics to this song?? and has anyone heard her other version to this song?
please someone help me find the chords to this song! this or the peggy lee version (not the strisand or any other version they all are annoying to me) and this or peggys version is the one i fell in love with so if anyone knows the guitar chords please help me out. thanks.
I always picture her performing this onstage dressed like a poor person circa 1920s.

Mistinguett 'Mon Homme' 1920.
such a difference from the Holiday version. Lovely cover. I just wish Regina's music was as good all round as it used to be...
Are you serious? her newest album is AMAZING!!!
