  • Tool is used to restore or prepare the surface of bottom bracket shell. Magnetic handle eases assembly and storage of the tool. Handle is also compatible with 1697 BSA and 1698 ITAL bottom bracket tapping tool and 1694 Head tube facing tool.

    Can a bottom bracket be resurfaced if the threads are no good? A threadless cartridge would be installed.

      Velo Orange makes a BB that works with stripped out threads. It uses lockrings outside the shell.
      Italian threads are a larger diameter than English. You could retap to Italian if your BB shell is thick enough. I have an aluminum cyclocross frame that this was done on before I got it. Its worked fine for over 20 years!

      Yeah, new frames need reaming due to manufacturing tolerances and paint / finishing treatments. Damaged frames for obvious reasons. Hope this helps!
