I know this comment is 5 years old but no, it is not unanimous that sarcastic Hawke is the best. It's actually my least favorite personality. They're trying too hard to be funny and I can't take them seriously. The one exception is the convo with Ninette's husband, because I think that line works well with an aggressive Hawke.
@@Hello83433 My canon Hawke is a Diplomatic Mage. I make my Warrior Hawke an Aggressive Templar and my Lady Rogue Hawke sarcastic (because she romances Fenris, and someone in that relationship needs to have a sense of humor).
@@anthonymurano9040 that use to be my as well now I prefer diplomatic warrior, aggressive mage, humorous rogue I like the conversations bethany has with diplomatic/humorous Hawke and carver with aggressive hawke
The humor in DA2 is a huge part of the reason it's my favorite in the franchise. All sorts of shit is going down in Kirkwall, and Hawke is right at the center of it all just taking the piss.
MeMoTie I started a second character rather recently, and I keep on going between the diplomatic/nice/boring choice, and the complete bitch/rude choice. But sometimes I just can't help choosing sarcastic choices xD
+Emily2351 I played Sarcastic Hawke, then killed Bethany for tragic story's sake (I have problems) than made Hawke turn into a complete asshole afterwards.
In Inquisition, Hawke dabbled a few times in sarcasm, but he wasn't DRIPPING in it like he was in this game. I'm a little bummed out about that. I'm sure the developers had to make it flow as smoothly as possible with dialogue and the plot, and so didn't have a lot of holes to fill, but still. Sarcastic Hawke in Inquisition feels more like Sometimes-Witty-on-Occasions Hawke.
+Emnuzuse Alor I noticed that too. I thought one of two things, having played Snarky!Hawke myself. One was, since Varric is telling the story, Varric is making Hawke to be even wittier and funnier than Hawke actually is, exaggerating for the sake of a better story. Which makes sense to me, since it's damned hard for any person to be as perfect as DA2 Hawke is at having the perfect joke at the perfect time. The other option that made sense to me was Varric wasn't exaggerating, but the events of Kirkwall fundamentally changed Hawke as a person. Having gone through Anders' betrayal, the deaths of both Meredith and Orsino, the destruction of their adopted home and being (unwittingly) at the center of a war that's tearing all of Thedas apart would seem enough to change most anyone. The suggestion in DA2 is that Hawke sometimes snarks to hide their hurt; it seems possible to me Inquisition Hawke might no longer be interested or able in putting up that front after all they've gone through. Those are my personal ways of it making sense, and being able to explain it at least.
That kind of makes sense, but sarcastic male hawke in DAII is honestly sociopathic. He literally jokes about the death of the Viscount's son in front of the viscount while his corpse is still warm. I think they just bluntly tweaked his character for Inquisition to preserve the "champion" aspect of his character rather than the mercenary-do-gooder-by-coincidence part which he's more like in DAII. Sarcastic Hawke in Inquisition is more like a noble/sarcastic fusion.
The Pillsbury Plougher My Hawke was mostly sarcastic, but she'd never joke about someone's death in front of their loved one. That's one line she never crossed.
....What? No, after the viscounts sons dies, Hawke can say to the Viscount "At least it isn't getting worse, today at least, it is really late." or something along that line.
Sharp Revan My fav thing is when Aveline comments on it afterwards. Aveline: "'It's pretty late'? You ass." Hawke: "Might as well end as tense as it started."
"Hawke this, Hawke that, can't anybody solve their own problems around here?" "Mage this, Templar that, doesn't anybody talk about anything else?" Sarcastic Hawke is the BEST, but my head-canon is a Diplomatic Mage that tries to keep the peace but ultimately defends his brother and sister mages.
"Can just for one week i didnt see any Insane Blood mage in the streets???" "remedy that potion shop oh my... You such a priceless" "at least Father has companion right now" "Dont worry bethany I will not let any big templars get you" "Are you gonna kill people anyway ?? That wasnt funny at all"

@@iGleep Yeah I think I did that with the line about the Viscount's son. Yikes, Hawke. I tend to pick the aggressive option (something about finding the bastard who did this) for this conversation though.

Sarcastic Hawke really does have the best lines in the game. You're a good guy for the most part but a lot of the lines make you across as a lunatic or insane psychopath. It really's funny.
I find it hard to play either non snarky version of Hawke. Especially red Hawke though. But there are just too many good lines in snarky Hawke's dialogue to pass it up.
Ha ha ha, no need to kill people? Hawke knows of only one way to solve quests: kill everyone. Why, once he was asked to return a defective product, he ended up killing 12 people!

I think the male voice is better with sarcasm. The point of sarcasm is to be as dry and uncaring as possible and Fem Hawke just makes it obvious that she's being sarcastic and it comes of as kind of annoying. Male Hawke has more "I don't give a fuck" tone with his sarcasm.

I find they work best in different personalities. Ladyhawke sounds positively bored when played diplomatic, and her silly responses make her sound very sarcastic. @xaviagrade Yeah. That annoys the fuck out of me as well. I call the "Mass Effect Syndrome". Male ! Hawke is awesome. Female Hawke sounds like a snobbish British noblewoman.
In dragon age 2 in most conversations you have 3 options, the harsh and "evil" one. The compassionate and "good" one. And the one you chose.
Humorous.
Some of us never did diplomat Hawke, and never will. I personally did humorous and aggressive depending on my world.
