  • In this video I compare the ever popular Oakley Sutro vs. the cheaper Blenders Eyewear Rainwalker. One is considerably cheaper than the other but what else differs between the two?

    I have owned a variety of Oakley and Blender shades and I don’t buy blenders any more. For me it came down to durability. The hinges degrade very quickly and in some blenders frames I have even had the screws work themselves entirely out of the hinge. This can be fixed by tightening the screws and using thread lock but it is really annoying. The other factor is the durability of the lenses. Oakley stand up very well and resist scratching well. Conversely blender scratch very easily and you will be looking to get a new pair because of the scratches very quickly unless you take very good care of them. Ultimately I was finding that I was actually spending more buying blenders because of scratched lenses or broken hinges than I spent on my oakleys because the oakleys last well. Just my thoughts though blenders make really cool looking shades!

      Thanks for watching and for your thoughtful comment! Yeah, for the price of the Blenders, you do get what you pay for in the end. I think they look good and are an option for those on a budget. I have not had any luck with my Oakleys not scratching. I had my Sutros on my head once and tried to put on my helmet and I knocked them off my head. They landed right on the lens and it put a scratch right on where I directly look out from. It would have been nice if the scratch was lower or in a corner but with my luck, it landed right in my direct vision. I also put a pair in my camera bag once without putting them in a case and some camera gear scratched them up pretty bad. At least in my use, the Oakleys scratch pretty easily. Haven't used the Blenders as much so I can't tell if they scratch as easily but I wouldn't be surprised. The only glasses that have held up to minor scratching for me have been Maui Jims and more so because they are made of glass. Man, but the Maui Jims are pricey! I just got a new pair from my wife for my birthday and father's day which I'll review soon but those were like $275!!!

      I've had lots of Blenders that have lasted for years with no issues. No scratches, no hinge problems. Then again I am ocd about taking care of them.

      Not sure what conditions you ride when using blenders. I surf lots at the beach out here in cali and even use em generally. I got the float waterproof resistant sunglasses and been using the same pair for 4 years now. $70 got me where its needed. Oakley brands are outstanding as well and durability is no joke, i own a pair of ballistic sunglasses for twice the price and they’ll go perfect for any condition. Had em for 6 years that one. Definitely get a bang for ur bucks!

    Fair review and not being bias as I work at Oakley HQ in foothill ranch CA, but the R&D that goes into Oakley eyewear as well as our lenses are class leading which is why Oakley leads the market in lens clarity, durability, transmittance and lens focal points(meaning the way our lenses directs your eyesight exactly straight and not cross eyed like cheaper glasses do such as blenders,pit vipers and other cheaper eyewear). Again I am not being bias because I work for Oakley it’s just yourself and many others are comparing a high quality pair of eyewear to a cheap pair of eyewear made for looks that do not offer remotely the same quality or safety as Oakley eyewear.

    • @cruisinginthe808
      @cruisinginthe808  Před 2 lety +4

      I can totally see your points. I'm positive that the R&D that goes into Oakley lenses is head and shoulders above cheaper brands. My favorite pair of riding sunglasses is the Oakley Sutro and that's the one I grab when I head out on a ride. There are times when I forget that they are on, they are so clear and sharp. But with that R&D comes a much higher price and not everyone can afford a pair of Oakleys. I was just trying to point out that there are alternatives out there if you don't have the means to get something like the Sutros. For some people, the cheaper glasses are fine. Others want a higher quality and they'll get Oakleys. Thanks for watching and for your comment! Much appreciated!

      Yeah man,many people who knock on oakleys haven’t ever tried some on. Their PRIZM and lens geometry technology is on a whole different ball park. They definitely do the job on any Lens color for a hot ass California summer day or camping trip to the sequoia mountains.
