As a Roman Catholic, something deep and powerful stirs in my heart when I hear this. All love, all respect, for our Orthodox brthren everywhere.
It's the love for Sancta Maria Mater Dei that the apostolic churches share.
This hymn writer is the saint Nektarios pishop of Pentapolis Aigina Greece
St. Nektários was originally from Silivría at Eastern Thrace.
This places is occupied by the turks and it’s name from 1922 is Silivri.
St. Nektarios’ names was Anastàsios Kefalàs before he became a monk and chnGed it to Nektarios.
lived in a small town in NE Pennsylvania. lot of people of slavic and polish ancestry so the orthdox church was across the street from my home. my family were catholic so we went to another town. but after coming home we hear the orthodox hymns.
I would be so happy to tell all the world how much ortodox is beautiful. Pure love

It is not a liturgical hymn. It was written by Saint Nektarios of Aegina (Greece). Around 1894 to 1908 A.D.
Of course in Greek. The music was later added by the monks of Simonos Petras Monastery which is in the Holy Athos Mountain (Mount Athos).

3:50
4:50 redaction? Did you mean rendition??
Church Slavonic was spread among Orthodox South and East Slavs and Romanians. Each country had its own redaction to adapt the CS pronouncing to the mother tongue of a speaker. In the case of Ukrainian redaction it mostly adapts vowels.
My favourite was ofc the Albanian with the Albanian iso influence.
But Latvian sounded great , the language sounds very intriguing, I loved it.
As an albanian i love it
O albanês parece Scandinavian
🇬🇷✝️✝️✝️🇬🇷
All of them were wonderful... EXCEPT the English one... hahahaha... I guess it is because I understand the lyrics and they harsh my vibe.... keep 'em coming... wish they were full versions, however.... :)
This english translation here is horrid
I think it's because English is a stressed language. Where as Greek uses length. Also English has elements of Creole (Celtic grammar, German vocabulary and a bunch of random words from french) so it's difficult to fit to the music
Coptic Orthodox here. Beautiful hymn I just say. It almost brought me to tears.
Hey Serbian, didn't you drop something?
?
Why so?

Tricked brothers and sisters return to true Christianity!
Abandon the heresies of Catholics, Protestantism… etc and come to Orthodoxy!
The one true Christian Church!
For the History of this hymn.
This hymn was written by St.Nektàrios.
St. Nektarios was Hellene🇬🇷 He was born and raised at the city called Silivría at Eastern Thrace. Those places are occupied be the turks since 1922 and the city is now called Silivri in turkic.
St.Nektarios’ real name is Anastàsios Kefalàs but when he became a monk he changed it into Nektàrios.
One afternoon when he was praying in front of a holy icon of Theotokos Maria, She appeared before him and asked form his to write for her an hymn for the Angels to sing.
Then, Nektàrios wrote this hymn and an Angels appeared and chanted it together in front of the icon of Theotokos.
Then the Angel went to Heaven again to sing this with the other Angels to the Virgin Mary!
Turkish?
It’s a Greek Orthodox Byzantine Chant about Holy Mary, mother of Jesus, translated in several languages
Really wish for a latin one
I want this most beatiful song honouring my mother , the Mater Dei , Regina Cæli , Mater Ecclesia , Stella Maris , Salvter Popvlii Latini , Mater Omnes Homines et Mater Avxiliatora to be in the language of my Church , my rite , my ancestors , my tradition , culture and ethnicity .
There is also one in Syriac
I guess the "Byzantine" one is the closest to Latin we will get. Thougth, since Latin is associated with the pagan Roman empire before the split it wouldn't make much sense to sing a monotheistic hymn
@@NickariusSN By that logic, greek shouldn't be used either because greek is also associated with paganism. I don't think it's fair to exclude latin because of this history, when for nearly 2,000 years it has been a liturgical language.
@@hfdjakfdns well, the original version of the hymn, was written in Byzantine Greek, if that's a thing, not quite ancient, not very modern either. It's more of a very formal way to speak Greek, which is vastly different from ancient Greek. So, it's not ancient, which is associated with paganism, it's more ""modern"" so to say
