You're supposed to use the plastic wrapper in came in to wrap around it to hold it in place while it dries. On a side note, Don Gonzales posted a vid a while back of him making a saddle from start to finish. It was like in 2X speed and about 33 mins. Gives one an appreciation for how much work, craftmanship and experience is required. Hat's off to you guys that can do it.

That “strap” I used works better than the plastic! The plastic is handy for the guys doing this at home!

Ropers use it to keep their rope from slipping! Most just wrap tire tube
