Fixed Gear + Cyclocross + Tallbike = Tallbike Tracklocross! - Fiets of Strength Ep. 11

- Last video I built up this Tall Bike Track Bike, and tried to take it to the velodrome, but ran into a bit of a speedbump... But honestly I wanted this bike to be a tall tracklocross bike all along anyway! So I swap out the wheels and tires for something a bit more suited for off-road riding and seek out some trails. I also add on a front disc brake because stopping is cool too.
Here's the video for the full build: • Fixed Gear Tallbike Tr...
And the video for the disc brake retrofit: • Adding Disc Brake Tabs...
Tools used:
Miller TIG welder
Hand grinders
Novo Abrasive 4.5" 80 grit flapper disc

This puts nerding out over BB drop into perspective. Love your projects, I got hooked by your discbrake tab welding.
Thanks for watching! I promise more nerd perspective in the future too.
@@FietsofStrength Cheers, looking forward to it, obviously you put a lot of thought into the builds, but with that kind of Mad Max factor. Thanks for the reply :)
brilliant
This thing is dooooope.
Thanks! Frickin fun to ride, too!
My God, I'm horrified just watching, how it must be up there!
It's just like riding a bike, but with a better view. 😉
awesome to see you go thrashing through the puddles. Out of curiosity, do you ride around with any other tall bikers in Portland? I'd love to ride with some other folks that aren't just my buddies who ride mine but haven't ever built their own. Also, have you ever built a tandem tall, and if so, was it a good experience or was it mainly just sketchy?
Great video as always!
Most of the tallbike folks I knew in Portland all moved away. Used to be if I saw a Tallbike in town I knew the person riding it... Also I decided to take some time off from group rides (pandemic, mostly). But maybe when the weather warms up I'll start seeing who's out riding again.
Oh and I've never built a tall tandem myself. Knew several people who did. They seemed to love it.
Build and ride tall bikes alot. Just picked up 2 fixed gear bikes a day ago and love them. I thought about making the tall bikes fixed gear for a second. It would make it much harder to mount and dissmount the bike. Like using a light pole tree... Using the original moutian bike gears 7-14 and use all of them every time I'm on them. The wind, small hills, dirt, gravel, and 16 inch deep water require lower gears and riding at 20 mph is fun too. Curious how you are geting on and off? What is the seat height from the ground?
Seat height is 65". Honestly a bit taller than I'd wanted for this build but it's all good. Mounting and dismounting is like a regular tallbike but with more precise timing. Mounting requires catching the pedal as it moves into the upswing to help boost me into the saddle. Dismounting means using the upswing of the pedal stroke for the final bit of breaking before I hop to the ground.
Cool tall bike but can you make a long bike?
Obvi! Maybe that'll be a 2022 video project.
