  • Full Garden Tour July 2022 This has been a challenging summer on the homestead. We are facing a drought and unprecedented temperatures. The bug pressure is incredible. And yet... And yet... The garden is producing despite nature's best efforts to shut er down.
Welcome to our Plan Bee! After 20 years of successful careers in the Los Angeles area we moved to rural Missouri and are taking steps to become more self-sustaining on our homestead. I break down all the farmy things into small manageable steps so you can start homesteading wherever you are.
We homestead on 2.5 acres in the Missouri Ozarks, and our garden hardiness zone is 6B.
Our weekly videos break down farming and gardening into small manageable steps so you can make the transition towards self sufficiency and food sustainability without being overwhelmed!
I garden in the Missouri Ozarks and am in hardiness zone 6B.

Lorella same issues here. I’m amazed that all our grass and plants dying from drought but weeds just keep going.

This Missouri heat has been brutal. But we are finally getting rain this morning! Thank you, God!

I always look so forward to your videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious. My garden is doing well once it finally got started. I am struggling getting zucchini though. They get the size of 1/2 a pencil, turn yellow and fall off. I am planning on expanding next year. That pool is so awesome. Could really use that here to cool off too.

I think You guys are really going to enjoy those MN midget melons IF you haven't had them already. The convent size to throw in a cooler or lunch box and I think they are almost equivalent to the full size Hales Best in terms of flavor. ;)

      Oh good!
So far something (!!!) has taken the two melons off the vine as soon as they’ve turned orange, taken a few nibbles and left them. We ate what was left. They weren’t quite ripe yet, but still good. My money is on raccoons. Time to set a trap.

Thank you for the tour! I grew some of the Baker Creek Tiger Melons. They are about the size of a softball, and they look and smell amazing....the taste....eh, a little bland. I'd still grow them again just to see them turn from green to red/yellow.

Someone told me the same thing about kajori melons. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I had my first Minnesota midget melon today and it was amazing!

I think we're all struggling with the weeds at this time of year, your weed fabric is a great idea

    • @LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm

Yeah. I have a couple sections of the garden that doesn’t have weed fabric, and the year I abandoned the garden mid-season, (due to my husband’s cancer) I had weeds taller than me. It was a weed forest and took me months to clean up.

@@LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm when my little sister got Brain cancer 5 years ago she had to give up her allotment because she physically couldn't keep up with it! Cancer sucks!

It does. Fortunately they were able to remove Chris’ cancer surgically and without chemo/radiation. Now he is on follow up scans every six months. So far so good. How is your sister?

I also have the issue with weeds finding every pinhole in the weed fabric. It almost looks like I don't even have weed fabric at the moment.
