Thank you very much. You dont image ,how you saved my nervous system. My husband bought a Sony A7s3 camera and started shooting in 4k 4.2.2 format. All frames started to jerk through VLC viewing. The husband already wanted to buy a new monitor, a video card for the camera and computer, and at the same time change his wife))))). You saved my family with your video. Everything worked out and everything works now. With gratitude from Russia.
Ah! I'm so happy that it made the family dynamic calmer 😂 but I do understand how it can feel like you wanna throw the computer out the window some days. Congrats on the new camera, it's our favorite to shoot with! Love from Chicago #BeBetter

@@NightOwlsMedia brother, do you have a fix for now editing the 10bit files, because a lot fo programs still cant edit
@@mattduncan5500 Hi Matt, I edit soley in PremPro and don't have any issues with the 10 bit footage. You can always create proxies from the footage in your NLE or convert the files to edit and then remaster on another rig?
Thank you for this! I just upgraded my camera but am still learning, well...most things. But I was getting really frustrated with always having to open my videos in my editor to view them. This saves so much time!
I'm so happy that it worked out so smoothly for you! And we are all still learning all the time :) Thank you so much for the comment and I wish you the best in editing!
Bro thank you! I have been dealing with this for a while now!
Hey! Super happy to be of help! Thank you for taking the time to comment!!
Dude you're a lifesaver! Recently bought a new Sony A7iv for video production. Couldn't read 10 bit 4:2:2 files on my old Macbook Pro... So just invested in and built a my own PC super machine (a first time builder), and my heart sank when I still couldn't view my lovely new 4k videos. But sir, you have just made my day!
I absolutely know where you're coming from. Sometimes it's just tweaking the right settings and having the right player. I love VLC player. I send it to all my clients whenever I send them videos, I think quick time and Windows Media player are the bane of existences for computers. I'm so happy it worked for you, thank you for taking the time to comment
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks man

That was really nice of you, thank you for the comment. Good luck editing!
you're a legend, this was a massive help
Hell of a thing to open and read man, thank you!!!
I was trouble shooting this for an entire week! I first had to find out what the problem was. It couldn't be my hardware. Was it the codec of my Sony A7 IV? nope!
After hours of codec suggestions, converters, etc. you came to my rescue! thanks a lot!
I know how stressful that had to be!! I am so glad it worked so well for you!! Thank you for the watch and taking the time to comment!
awesome. thansks man was looking for this only !! :)
Happy that it was helpful! Thank you for the watch and the comment!!
Thank you! This was a massive help!
So happy that it helped! Thank you for the comment!!
I generally try and just figure this stuff out myself.
I used to use K-Lite codecs back in the day etc., I've always reverted to default classic Windows Picture Viewer, always have my own way of doing everything as moderate power-user.
This has actually changed my workflow dramatically, all since getting an A7IV this has been a PITA. This was the quickest, most straight forward and elegant solution available.
Big props for making such a digestible video. I do think you could've laid out the format better, but I understand you've gotta keep your video watch time up so you spread it out. Personally, I would've much preferred you go through the setup then recap with extra features and thoughts.
I totally understand about trying to figure things out. Thank you so much for your kind words and for the view and comment!
And I totally understand the format, and thank you for understanding the need of CZcams analytics. Makes my heart happy. But you're right. We're aiming to make a ton more videos once work slows down and I want to make them more formatted and clean. I will take your notes to heart
@@NightOwlsMedia CZcams format is hella hard to manage. On one side, viewership can drop if you don't get your answer fast enough. On the other side, it drops if it's too short/only half viewed.
I think you'll find a balance, appreciate you taking the time to reply!
Personally, I tend to stick around for a full video if the format follows something like:
~ 30-45 Second intro explaining the purpose
Quick, to the point install and setup
Then you start to dive into the what and why of it all with things like Before/After results with pros/cons/side notes.
Anyway, I watched the video front to back to support ya because this is a genuinely helpful video. Even the thumbnails I fucked up by skipping ahead at first.
As a side note, I've noticed a similar structure that I almost always skip through lately
I am avidly learning a tonne of 3D printing atm and there's a lot of "boring data" that I tend to skip which is the whole middle of the video. The biggest issue there being I skip it because I don't know the end result, so until I know it, I don't care about the process. If the result works, I'll often go back and watch that section to understand the why.
Just my 2 cents!
thank you! love your energy bro
Dude, thank you so much! That made my day!!
This trick was really helpfull for me, to play 4K 4:2:2 footage in VLC before I start to edit it... big THX!

Great, I can now see the icons of my 4k videos in the browser. But I'm still having problems playing with VLC my videos recorded in 4K 30 mp4. If you pause the image for a moment and advance frame by frame, after a while it stops working, you try to rewind by positioning the cursor a few seconds earlier and it doesn't respond either. You have to stop and play again from the beginning. I have done all the configuration instructions and it is still wrong. I am with W7 64, 8-core processor, 32GB ram and 6GB video.

Great tutorial! I am struggling to open my 4k 32-bit footage in Da Vinci Resolve, I'm having to encode all the files to be able to work on them. Any solutions and/or Tips please?
Unfortunately I don't know resolve very well. I only use it to color grade and that's after I export out to ProRes 4444 16-bit. I do know that DaVinci Resolve has a paid version that allows you to work with 4K stuff, and I know that the free version does not. Is this part of the issue? Otherwise, does DaVinci allow you to create proxy files? You can create proxies and edit with the proxies and then when you go to export you use the original files
Legend. Thankyou. Liked. Subscribed.

yo bro! i was checking out your video, I recently got a sony fx30, however after following your video, I am still having problems with VLC playing my videos, 10bit 4K, it is playing better after your video instructions, but is still laggy, but the video is actually attempting to play now and the audio isn't 2 miles ahead while its on the first frame still, any suggestions on how to make it right?
I'm glad it's starting to get better. 100mb 10bit 4k is a beast of data flow so you should make sure your CPU + GPU are specced up correctly to work with them. I run a 4090 hour + Ryzen 9 5950x. And I would suggest making sure you don't have too much open unless you have hella ram. I have 128gb and still lag playback in VLC. Once it's in premiere it's much easier playback. But outside a transcoded environment it can be laggy. To play the footage normally your system has to be specced out like crazy. It should be just enough to see what the files are before you bring them to your NLE.
Works! Thanks
Nice! Thank you for the comment!
Is VLC able to create subtitles from the audio of youe 4K 10 bit :4:2:2 Videos. I'd be more interested in that then Thumb Nails, as the Explorer in windows produces 3 Sizes of Thumb Nails.
We’re having trouble with Canon’s XF-AVC format. When connecting the R5C camera directly to a Windows10 PC, the PC can’t see the files at all. It sees the drive and the folder structure, but all folders are empty. We are told a card reader is the answer…but we’ve got to order one. Any suggestions.
While I'm not positive about specifics (like math) I always prefer a good card reader over connecting a camera to a computer. This way there is no issue with translation or connectivity. I use this one and have freaking loved it. I had cheaper ones in the past and always regretted wasting money due to the crappy transfer speeds. After buying this.one, I now have 3 of these for main editing PC, travel MacBook pro, and my footage server

Hey, thank you for the watch and comment! Good luck editing.
vlc now plays 4k 10 bit from sony fx3 but its very jittery. like its a very heavy file. is it my laptop and i cant do anything about it? or another setting? i use 32gb ram, core i9, and geforce rtx 2080, windows 11. also for some reason it shows thumbnails without installing icarus. thanks
I'm not positive on the reason, I'm more of an editor than a computer tech. But the CPU is good, the ram is standard (and wouldn't really effect this part) however the GPU is a bit low. If you're editing 4K I would step that up to a 3080, 3090 area. I got the 4090 in my computer and its doing well, but still tends to lag sometimes, so I would definitely get up in the 3000s

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problem.
Thanks a lot for helping thousands of creators. I did exactly what you mentioned and everything started to work great, but after all these changes I started to face two issues: (1) Video is showing grey frame in between like a glitch and (2) My mouse cursor started to disappear right after I play any video. It was working fine before. Any fix to these issues??
Thank you so much for the kind comment. That was very nice of you. As for the mouse cursor... I have not heard of that but it sounds like you might be having a driver / firmware issue or conflict. Try updating your drivers and any firmware for mouse or peripherals.
Either way, let me know if you get it resolved. You could help someone else who might have this issue in the future.

This is so helpful! How would I convert a video from this, to a format that can played easily? Like if I wanted to send it to someone who isn't very computer literate and just wants to play it on a media player without changing any settings. Any tips please?
Thank you for the watch and the comment. If you're looking to just convert a file for someone to watch easily, You can create a proxy of the video extremely fast and easy and they will be able to watch it on their end without any issue whatsoever. It won't be the highest quality because high quality depends on Better computer gear. But they will be able to watch it flawlessly
Also, I always recommend everyone to always have VLC player. Quick time and windows media player in my opinion are garbage
@@NightOwlsMedia sorry what do you mean by proxy?

So question, nle is having trouble playing my 422 clips as well, but my laptop is a bit old, should i be upgrading that?
It's hard to recommend someone to go out and buy the best newest stuff, cuz it makes me sound like a dick. Dealing with video is always a tough thing because our specs change so often and video editing is very demanding on a computer. Video editors tend to wreck our computers faster because of all the work we put on them. But if I were just to make a snap judgment, I would say if your laptop is more than 3 years old then yes, I would highly consider getting something new. You want the best thing that you can afford, especially looking at the processor CPU and the video graphics GPU. Most laptops now come self-sealed meaning it's a lot harder to open them up and change parts out which really sucks. My advice is never edit video actually on the laptop, meaning never bring your video on to the laptop itself. Your main drive should only be used for your OS and your programs. Get external SSDs to have all your assets on. This will make your process run much faster and you'll have better results overall.
For SSD, I recommend Samsung t7 or SanDisk extreme portable. You can get these in 4TB at USB 3.2 And you will be in good hands.
Sorry for the wall of text, just trying to give some quick information
