- In today's episode, we do a house project and build a DIY Bar in the basement. I went into this with no knowledge of how to build a bar or what to do and literally came up with everything as we went. We started with a tape design on the floor and measured everything out from there. We then went and got some wood and supplies and figured out how we wanted our bar to be constructed. This bar was thought of, designed, and built in 2 days. With some basic DIY skills and a can do attitude, you can do these types of home projects yourself!

I like how you guy's explain step by step on how you guys do the build. Specially the part where you'll fast forward the video.
I hope it helps you to do your own. Just come up with a design and have fun!
@@DIYSalvageGuyfuck this video
I built an outdoor bar/ kitchen with the same mentality. I winged it they whole way thru. But it came out great.
Love to hear that. We are pretty handy when we try. Glad it worked out for you!
I like the way you built it but would like the dimensions of the cuts. Nice video
You never cess to amaze me, keep up the good work.
Thank you! This was a lot of fun to do
Looks good bud, gave me ideas for my bar incoming thanks
Happy to hear that and thanks for the kind words. Best of luck in your build.
Nice work.
Thanks a lot!
I'd put a matching table top on that back wall and maybe a wall mounted wine rack and glass rack instead of the one you got below. Maybe a few more cabinets down below for storage as well. Looks great tho.
Great ideas. Still waiting for the wife to give me the go ahead for the behind the bar area. She's "thinking" about it 😂
I'd put the fireplace on the back, up high . Love the LEDs.
@@DIYSalvageGuy please make sure you post a Part 2!!!
Great ideas there. Like it. Thanks.
Thanks for the support. Hope it inspires you to do the same!
Good work, Keep it up man
Thanks for the support!
This is gonna be a serious build💯😂
Still sitting pretty 2 years later. Worked out great
Budweiser . King of beers .
Make that a former king who is now a queen.
@@jolkraeremeark6949 idc, still drink Bud. Nobody asked you shit anyway.
Looks awesome bro
Thanks so much! Came out great for a 3 minute design session.
I would do a fake brick wall behind the bar for more of bar feel instead of yellow living room
I actually bought some of those! Still trying to decide how to set it all up with shelves though. Thanks for the idea and comment!
NICE💯Lota lumber👍🏻
It cost about 200 more than it needed to because of stupid lumber prices.
This administration is a train wreck 🤬
Great vid 👍🏾
Thanks a lot! Hope it inspires you to do the same.
Not a perfect build but not bad. Well done.
Pretty sure these were my exact words when I finished it. I appreciate the support.
Nice bar I wudnt add that fireplace to the bar because whenever is sitting there it will b hot on there legs or u will have to eliminate seating right there altogether
I have not added it yet, but it is adjustable. I can put on the flame without the heat or adjust the temperature. I keep debating on what the right move is
I would of put a drip edge on the top bar because there's always going to be someone who spills their beer and why did you bother with the sink? Without having water it's pointless. Should of made it a wet bar. Other than that I like it
Drip edge would have been a good idea. The sink has a pipe and bucket under it for things like ice if I want to fill it or a dump sink. Thanks for the feedback!
@@DIYSalvageGuy the drip edge is pretty cheap. It's been a few years since I built my bar but I don't think that little bit would be expensive. You might even have enough wood lying around to do it because trust me someone will spill a beer at some point. If you wanted to make it a little more comfortable then check out Chicago bar rails. It's the part where you rest your arms at a real bar. Since your bar is straight then it wouldn't cost much. It's when you get into a u shape bar then it's expensive because of all the elbows
goes real nice when there aren't any disagreements. wish I had nice building partners .
A good partner to work with and bounce ideas off of is ideal.
Nice
Thank you!
where do you get the light under the counter top
You can get them on Amazon. Here is a link. amzn.to/48EiSuA
Never heard of mitres
The name is uncommon, but you've seen them. Think of a picture frame.
question . how did you fastened the bar top to the wood? what did you use ?
I used the appropriate sized screws and secured it from underneath. Another option is liquid nails or something similiar.
So where do you drive it from and how are you going to drive it out of your basement?
It has become a permanent fixture. My diy 1 days blue print design never thought of how to get it out of there 😂
@@DIYSalvageGuy 😂 it looks awesome and especially for a single day build! I'm sure it'll bring more laughs and good times in your basement too, although seeing a bar driving down the road would be awesome too! 🤣
What was the total height of the bar?
Sitting side is 42 inches. Bar side is lower. Something like 36 or so.
how did you plumb the sink in...did i miss that timecode
I did not add plumbing if that's what you mean. I did caulk it in though, but that's standard stuff.
@@DIYSalvageGuy yea i was talking about the sink you put in on 12:53 just cos I'm doing a similar thing now and was wondering if you put in running water or waste water system
No running water. It's a dry sink. I have a bucket underneath it to catch anything. It's more or less just a ice holder or a dump sink. Adding plumbing is a way bigger job than I was prepared to do in a day.
No Mitre joints!? That’s just a bit lazy. 🤷🏻♂️
It was something I realized I forgot to do as soon as I finished.
What would you say was your complete total
All in it cost me about 600. Wood prices were higher due to covid, but might still be the same now. Well worth the money.
No way!!! That's incredible!!
What did you use for the bar top, is it just sheathing?
Got two counter tops from Lowes.
How will the sink work ?
It's just a dump sink or and ice holder. I didn't run plumbing. Bucket underneath.
What are the dimensions of the bar ?
Bar is 8 feet wide with the L side coming in 3 feet. Each bar top is 2 feet, but they overlap a bit.
Hello DIY Salvage Guy, I just finished my basement and I am interested in building this type of bar as I feel it’s a project that’s within my wheelhouse. When your showing your build at the 5:00 mark, what was the height on the front 2x6 going across the front and then also the back vertical boards by the camera?
I'll measure them and get back to you tomorrow.
@@DIYSalvageGuy he never did
@@Wadses also need to know lol

Actually, you need to buy your chairs/bar stools to determine the exact height. Make adjustments according to your chair seat tops. Ideally, 24 to 30 inches apart horizontally
but never closer than six inches apart. Bar tables/bars tops are about 42 inches from the floor. Vertical. So you'd want your chair seat tops to be 30 inches from
the floor (12 inch difference). If there is an apron on the counter or thickness, a comfortable distance for knees below is 8 to 10 inches, so a 4 to 2 inch thickness/apron.
Bar chair seat tops are all different heights from the floor. So, like I said...get your chairs first.
Cease, ha, Damm keyboard
Damn auto correct!
How much y’all charge?
The Knowledge is free! 😊
Hard to learn from a video been sped up from beginning
The real purpose is to show you that you don't need to learn. Get a design in mind. Make some cuts on some wood. Support that wood and make it your own. This video shows that you can do it without any knowledge or skill. There isn't much to learn about cutting and measuring wood. Just make it even and have fun with the design.
