Iran marks the 40th anniversary on Monday of the popular uprising that led to the fall of the monarchy and the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979, when the Ayatollah Khomenei became Iran's political and spiritual leader. Today, Iran is a society trying to find a balance between the religious tenets of the revolution and the demands of a young population that is hungry for social and political change. Our reporter brings us a rare look inside Iran.

Such a claim is terribly simplistic and ignores historical factors like the legacy of the cast system, religious fanaticism, class inequality, colonial legacy, inequality between the rich and poor and many other factors. Despite these flaws, people in India at least can hold their government accountable to some degree and achieve changes through protests and elections. When old cultures unhinged upon human rights, then it should taken down.

@@SATYAMSINGH-ly8kb Well that's false. No one in Iran was ever lashed for not wearing the Hijab, and definitely not imprsoned for it! The White Wednesdays activists are different as they are funded by Iran's rivals like the US and UK. So they aren't being lashed or imprisoned for taking off their Hijabs per se,but rather because they work for those who wish to harm Iran.
And there's nothing wrong with not wearing a Hijab. They can choose to wear it indoors,in the desert, and so on. But in public spaces where people are around, they are expected to wear NOT because not wearing it would be wrong, but because that's the culturally appropriate dress code set by iranian society.
And even in India, boys and girls are expected to dress in a certain way. You should know this well as an Indian. I've seen girls in India being shamed by other women for not covering their sleeves and shoulders. Societal pressure enforces dress codes. Hope this makes sense to you. you obviously wouldn't want me to break Indian laws and cultural customs.

I have found the Iranian people to be wonderful, wonderful people. Kind, thoughtful, intelligent, caring and welcoming. The leadership however is a different story. The Iranian people are extremely oppressed and are no better off than they were over 40 years ago and in fact are worse off. I am not suggesting that western values are better because a country founded on God and HIS principles, values and guidance is a country that will be blessed. The west has ignored the voice of the MAJORITY of the people and have pushed the twisted, wicked agendas of anarchists and maniacs wanting to switch genders, drag Queens, etc and we do NOT WANT THAT FILTH being promoted or encouraged or exposed to our children. But going to opposite extremes like Iran who concerned with rules, rules and enforcing the rules and the regime is corrupt. They abuse their power to keep control and why when a "religion" rules a country it is no different than the regime they replaced because they use the "religion" to control the people and keep their hold on power, crush the voices of those who disagree. If the Ayatollah thinks there can't be a revolution he's making the same mistake the Shah made. There certainly can be a revolution when the people are so oppressed they have nothing left to lose because their lives have become nothing but misery.
I pray the Iranian people get the freedom they so desperately crave to have a voice in their own destiny...

In my opinion, a way to contain violence and brutality as you speak against a political party, a state, or revolution you have to remain open and listen to your opposition. See, as a private citizen, sure, u are free to your opinion, to speak your mind, etc…when you join a movement, a political party, even a protest, you have to know there are others with their own views. Why should either side impose their will against the other? We all have a voice and collectively can make change happen. Collectively includes all sides. There might be a group that doesn’t agree with either side.
FYI: I feel social media gives way to ignorance too. That’s why it’s important to be respectful and not entice others through social media to rebel against any ideology. Since we don’t own the different media outlets, we become part of the tweeter group for example. Etiquette and rules come with that. I’ll reiterate that as individuals or private citizens we have that freedom to say what we want. It’s our minds. As part of something, though, your ears is the best mouthpiece!
