Banners are something that can really put people off a model, especially when we see crazy complicated custom designed ones online, but I promise you, they're just as simple to paint as any other part of a model! Even though I use a Black Templar scheme for this banner, all the steps will be the same, no matter what chapter you use. I also already have a Astra Militarum banner tutorial posted as well to help you guys. Thanks @warhammer for sending me these models early to get some tutorials out for you all, and ignore what I said about them being out today, it's been a very long week!!

See you in the next video soon! - Jak na to + styl
I am an old man. I started painting wargames figures in the 70's. The fact that you can casually say 'red is a really good paint, it gives really good coverage', actually shows how far we have come. I think the first 30 years or so I was painting, if you wanted a red, you had to put down a coat of white first, because the reds of last century were SO weak, they didn't cover anything! It is kind of ironic, that we now have problems with white paints, but there you go. thanks for another inspirational video!
Haha ye things have for sure changed. Even when I started red was a nightmare
FANTASTIC
Thank you!!
great video, thanks Andy
You’re welcome man
Love the video! I recently started a black templars army and came across your channel. I picked up some jewelry chains and converted some hell blasters. They're going to be a little oath sworn suicide squad dropping out of a drop pod. The chain can be a pain but it really sells the black templar look.
Oh wow that sounds wicked! Would love to see them if you post them anywhere!
Awesome army
Thanks so much!
Hi, love the channel, back painting after a 30 year hiatus. Wow, this shit just got easier. And you make it effortless sir.
Aw man I’m so glad to hear that, welcome back to the hobby and enjoy all the crazy upgrades we’ve gotten! Let me know if you have any questions!
Army looks awesome. I think at this point I'd just go with rule of cool when it comes to adding stuff.
I always do.
Always fantastic to see a massive force on display! Tidy job on the banner 👍🏼
Ye I do love my bigger armies on display.
Great work as always Andy!
You've got me sorely tempted to start Black Templars and Flesh Tearers! 😂
A Land Raider Crusader would be an iconic unit to add to your Black Templars. It would also make for a good transport for the new Terminators or a large Crusader squad!
Yes a land raider is of course a great choice and yes it should 100% be in this force.
Loving the new format for your videos, casually showing off a bit of your work too! Love it! 😊
Aw that’s great to hear-always wary of changing things so feedback like that is awesome 🙌
Great channel!
Aw cheers man!
Hey Andy, try Buff or Ivory from Vallejo Game Colour as an alternative to screaming skull. Way better coverage.
I can second this, bonewhite is also good
Great idea Pal thanks.
Great looking mini
Thanks pal.
Fab video, always love seeing your Templars, would be great to see a full video 👍
Yeah I really gotta do one soon! Thanks man
+1 for painting and not caring what the rules for them are. /Applause!
Me being constructive: decals present much better when framed in a traditional sense. Sorry if I don't know the exact word, but having an untouched border between the edge of "color" and the "decal" thus preventing the decal from touching the edge or over lapping will dramatically improve the presentation. Not sure which options are available for all the various decal sheets with their individual scale but this might be something work looking at. That being said, it still looks awesome!!
As for decals, there are some decal sheets out there with the appropriate scale scripture for all those wonderful purity seals. You can also print your own with very little investment. Old English in your banner would also look more amazing.
I shall look into it. Thanks pal.
Missing a land raider crusader (shame on you! 😂) also figure some sword bro's wouldnt have any issue picking up a nice big shield, so you could add some Bladeguard (I made mine out of the sword bro kit and regular bladeguard shields, but there are a lot of 3rd party ones out there, axe and shield looks amazing too). I know the centurion kit is a bit divisive, but the assault cent's look great with lots of space for decals - ive seen things like big punch daggers to convert the siege drills also, and some tutorials about making them slightly thinner and taller by trimming some parts and adding greenstuff behind some panels. I also think Jump pack troops are very BT to get into the enemy quicker!
Totally agree! Grey tide studios have some awesome parts for BTS if you’re looking for some!
Great work as always brother and a great marine force
Cheers pal. Appreciate it.
Fab as ever!
Very kind.
Thanks for sharing. The model looks awesome. Your army is looking great, not to mention the Flesh Tearers. The Black Templars are definitely great looking.
Very kind. Still have some serious work to get through on the tearers.
Mine is going into my Crimson Fists, well once all my Guard stuff is done! Great Vid Andy, keep up the great work!
Cheers pal. And Great choices.
amazing
Thanks
impressive Templar army
Thanks man
Screaming skull alternative? You MUST have eared about Vallejo Pale Sand
Pale sake you say. Hmmmm
Thank you for this video. Have recently started pixking up black templars as i moved away from Ultramarines. Banners are a source of worry for me, not good at shading. Will have to check out all the BT videos!
Aw thanks man, that’s exactly why I made it. I promise you it’s just like any other part of a model, just take your time and be patient with yourself!
Started doing my BT shoulders and various accessories in cream/bone like you do and it looks way better than the Ulthuan Grey I was using as an off-white for the shoulders. Thanks Andy!
Also I might have missed them but a big unit of Bladeguard would be perfect for BT, knights with swords and shields!
Ye I kind of want to be I think the sword brethren fill there role. So I’m not sure now.
Love that mini, and the whole army is looking stunning, would love to see the bikers finished as with the extra parts you have personalised them with they look like they would be amazing. As for extra tanks, I gotta say it……. Fellblade 😃.
Ye the bikers for sure need doing. Just need to find the time.
It looks grand
Cheers
Land raider crusader
Not the first person to suggest. Seams I have little choice.
You need a Land Raider Crusader and some Assault Terminators done in your Sword Brethren scheme
Ye so do pal. Your 100% rite.
I was shocked at how easy the banner was to paint....I was NOT shocked at how the shaft of the banner snapped off at the Marines hand.
It's gotta be said tho, it was way nicer to paint when it wasn't attached to an astartes XD. I just glued it back on at the end.
Hahahhaha sounds like it all worked out
@@MediocreHobbies actually (predictably) I dropped it, and it broke again, but I found a resin print of specifically the second company salamanders banner, and that's my boys. I'll be using actual super glue next time. Here's hoping for an actual happy ending XD
I'd say jump intercessors, but I've always been a stickler for jump pack troops in any combat focused army. The only other inclusion I'd add you've got in the form of the bikers.
Maybe give the new Terminators a pimped out Templar Land Raider Crusader. I mean, they invented it. 😂
Screaming Skull is a real pale paint, I use it for edges, etc, and use the Ushabti Bone for the layer.
I am looking forward to adding the company command to my Crimson Fists, kinda tempted to try a silver basecoat for the armour. Might test it on a random model.
So many solid options. Cheers pal.
@@MediocreHobbies any time.
Trying this myself and i dont know how you manage to be so neat and tidy and not overspill the colors onto the black armor
Practice. Not an insightful reply i know I’m sorry.
Great tip you might want to use for the larger name sections on banners that I've found helpful. Work out the word first on paper - you can then work out the style, spacing and shape. Then use a soft pencil (2B) to sketch in those letters on the model. I've found this much easier than a brush and light enough to cover easily. When you've got the word traced on, follow the lines with a brush the the colour of your choice (I use thinned down 50/50 Rhinox/Black). Seems easier to follow the lines you've made in pencil as you're not focused on the letters just the lines/shapes that make them up.
Very helpful pal. Thank you.
Looks like you're very close to the armoured detachment which looks like it'll be strong. The Burna one looks strong as well, nothing better for purging xenos and or heretics. Gotta clear those Ork spores out.😉
Hahah it’s for sure meant to be a templar or salamander.
Would love to see a full review of all your armies😊
It would take a year 😄
would to see the army up close :-)
I think I shall have to show it off soon.
How about a few primaris invictor tactical units ? I have 5 in my slowly coming together army and they are easy to customise
Not a bad idea at all.
Hello. Do you have your base tutorial? Looks great with templars :)
In the description!
@@MediocreHobbies awesome thank you!
How the heck did you get the underside of that cape and those seals under his arms?!
What I couldn’t reach i couldn’t see so didn’t bother.
brother where did you get the sword for the dread?
It’s 3D printed from grey tide studios!
@@MediocreHobbies thank you brother
Ouch. This video was released way too early. SM release is the 14th lol.
You do know I can share my videos from the start of pre preorder rite.
@@MediocreHobbies I was more pointing out that at the start of your video you said that "the Preorder window is now over and you'll have these minis in hand" I wasn't taking the Mick, just want my space marines haha!
I've sprayed my templars black undercoat and then use the black templars contrast but it dries chalky. How can I stop this
So your putting a black contrast over black spray. Contrasts are meant to go over bright sprays so you can see the contrast effect. That’s why I spray light grey or silver over the top first.
Did you prime in LeadBelcher? 😮
Black and then a light leadbelcher spray over that.
I'm new to warhammer can I get 9th edition figures and use then In 10 edition or are they different
10th edition is just about the rules! It doesn’t matter what models you’re using, they bring out new models all the time anyway, the only bit you have to worry about is using the up to date rules! Hope this makes sense!
@@MediocreHobbies helps alot thanks
