Love how you moved your freezer under the chill sign. Lol
Oh please keep the suitcase as it is!!
Truly a vintage keepsake not to diy into something else. 💕
That door would make a beautiful headboard!
I automatically think or Harry Potter when I see that suitcase. Maybe just a display! Build a small stand for it and have it be an artistic storage piece.
HP and Newt Scamander in my head w the bag. Maybe make it pretty again as it is a piece of history.
I vote mini bar for the suitcase! Keep all the beauty and unique features. Just add a removable insert shelf on the open side. It is an awesome find!
😮 I love that idea!
agree, that was going to be my suggestion. use the hangars to hang wine glasses or something
I was thinking kitchen spice rack but wow the bar sounds like a great idea. 👌🍸👌🍷
exactly what i was going to say!!
The old suitcase is called a Gentleman's Steamer Trunk. It is from the days when the only way they travelled was by steamer, or ship.
The top drawer held their grooming tools, and jewellery, And then one large one held freshly laundered shirts, while the other contained underwear. Remember in those days men's underwear was very large, and they wore undershirts. The hanging area was for the suits, and vests, and the shoes were put in the lipped area at the bottom of the suit well. That is a real antique. I think they stopped making them in the 60's. They still make them but as a luxury item for filthy rich people.
Cool break down! Thank you! I just love it so much as it is, I can't bare to ruin it. Not until the right idea comes along. I feel like it's coming...just need to noodle it for a little longer 😬
I would just clean that suitcase, maybe throw some little wheels and a longer handle and use it as a suitcase! Or I would use it as a storage closet for my art supplies.
Same ! Put it on wheels and use it as storage for small DIY supplies (sewing supplies would have been even funnier but art and DIY would do 😉)
I agree! Definitely don’t change it too much if any. Great piece of art and history. Nice find!
Yes art supplies would be fantastic. Her easel would probably fit in the larger section
You can make the trunk into a drink cart! The top drawer for stir sticks and such, the fold out compartments can hold drinking vessels(held in place by straps) and the hanging compartment can have shelves to hold the liquor and mixes! Restore the outside or update it to match the owners preference and you have transformed the thing into another thing!!
Yes I agree! Great idea!
I took an old door like that and made it a "barn door", or sliding door. 😁
i was thinking of the same thing too! :D
Same thinking we got here
“Treat yo’self” means something quite different in Danie’s house!
: a DIY with that vintage suitcase chest! Maybe an arts and crafts storage unit! It’s gorgeous!
yeah, in the gavinets pomps, pencil, crochet stuff and the hainig part cortins or fabric
That door would (wood? 😂) Make an amazing head board for a bed ! Love the suitcase !!
The door could be maybe turned into a table (with a glass on top). I once saw it in a hotel i stayed in and ever since then it's been a proyect i've wanted to try with an old wooden door!
Same idea! Except was thinking about a desk!
Oh! That was my thought too! Perhaps it could sit open to enjoy the inside, legs running from a base behind the doors to make a floating stand for a nice glass top and it would me a VERY cool nightstand or side table.
Only you can make a garage organization that enjoyable, love your energy and your super goofy jokes
Love the steamer trunk. They don't make 'em like that, anymore.
Man, I am both tired and inspired just watching you!
I believe the door would make a fine piece of vertical art collage. Like if you put the art in the panels (a continuum art piece broken by wood in between). Something traditional and very boho eclectic. It would be lovely decor in the living room on a wall. 😊
Your puns kill me 😂 Worth watching just for those. Hahaha. I loved seeing all your tools - definitely adding a few to my wish list!
hahaha YES! the best part 🤣
You can turn vintage Suitcase into portable tool kit.. for the occasions when you make someone’s place beautiful..
I love this idea! Diaries of DIY Danie: Trunk Show series!
I have to admit, I watched this one purely for entertainment purposes (who REALLY cares about your messy garage....) and ended up motivated and inspired and laughed like hell!!!
Great job Dani, I love the trunk, I would use it for art supplies, left open in a corner. The door would make a beautiful table. Thanks
A seven foot door needs to be a dining table. Maybe outside on a covered patio so it doesn't get ruined, but think Italy with long table and fairy lights and music.
For the suitcase, you could add legs to the bottom and then stand it up open or closed and use it as a valet/butler stand
That would be great in a guest bedroom. Add snacks.
Danie always makes me smile. One of only a couple of CZcamsrs I have on "notifications."
The steamer trunk is very cool, I don’t know what you should do with it, but it’d be a shame if the interior was altered. Thanks for the garage clean/organize inspiration. ✌🏼
I think that suitcase would be awesome as a Murphy Bar. That way you could keep the uniqueness of the suitcase but, use it for something modern and kewl.
That door wants to be a dining table sooo bad, you know it Danie.
The suitcase would be adorable if it was madeover in cute kiddish colors and styled as a costume storage for kids. I could picture boys superhero costumes hanging! So awesome
The antlers on your dog would remind me.of the pooch from the grinch who stole christmas. Could be a quick photo for Christmas cards
Max is the dog. I love him!!
For the door make it an entry way seating. Add a small bench with space to put your shoes and add hooks to the top part for hats scarves and such. Maybe add a mirror to the center.
I enjoy this as I need to do the same to my garage but I am in a power wheelchair as it takes a bit longer but you have inspired me thank you
Just clean up the steamer truck and use it store small art supplies, markers, watercolors, stationery, scrapbooking supplies, etc. Maybe use the 'hangers' and hanger side for rolls of wrapping paper, washi tape? Make sure all the 'wet' supplies are in separate bins so that they don't leak onto that gorgeous vintage truck :)
I was having such an awful day in lockdown until I watched this video, thank you for cheering me up! 🤗
I looove that suitcase! I would use it in my guest bedroom, keep it open and add a board or hanging shelf to make a table top of some sort to use as a bedside table or console table situation and a place for them to unpack some items or pack it with cute guest room stuff like toiletries and snacks/mini bar items in the drawers and hang guest bath towels on the hang side. So cute!
Love it. Large S hooks on the end of your black shelves to hold your cords after you secure them. S hooks great for things that can hang.
It's (almost) Remus Lupin's suitcase! Please please keep it as a suitcase, or make it Harry Potter themed 😊
Since there were no puns in that last video, you've really doubled down on them in this one 😅 I love it! 👏❤
I found you through an Alexandra Gator video, and can I just say that's the best 2 for 1 deal I've ever found!
Your garage has me feeling all kinds of jelly, before & after the clean up. All that spare wood pieces? Those tools? 🤤
I'm about to buy my first ever drill so I appreciate it when you talk about your tools (I did watch the video you made on what tools you really like). There are a few wood projects that I'd like to take on in and around my home so it's great to see what, and how you do it. Plus it's a super bonus when it's a homegirl you're watching (ya T-dot!).
Thanks for being fabulous and making videos for me to watch and learn!
I had a gorgeous panel door like that and I added legs to it and then had a piece of glass cut for the top (to make it even) and had a gorgeous, unique dining room table.
I love that you made the garage work for you! I have LOTS of storage containers in my garage but you are so right, they aren't clear and need to be. I live in a tiny apartment and share the garage with the neighbor apartment. It's mostly keepsake stuff (like my kids baby blankets, which I am making into a quilt for each of them when they turn 18) Christmas decor, and things I need for my house that I will be buying in fall 2021. I know since I've lived without those things for 4 years I should just give them away or sell them but I'd just have to rebuy them when I move and I do NOT look forward to that.
What I will take from this is keep what you love and organize it well!
To create a desk out of the door is a great idea! I'd love that😊
Just a first idea for the suitcase because you asked for it ;) I think you could hang it opend on a wall and use it as a shelf/storage solution. You could maybe diy some shelfs for the hanger side or store fabric, plants or similar things on the hangers (maybe adding a mirror?). I'm sure you'll have a creative idea to diy it and bring it to new life as a decorative storage piece maybe even for your livingroom or garage? ;)
Now I need to continue to watch the video. But I can't wait to see, what you'll create out of it! 😊
And now again an idea for the door: you could make a really great headboard out of it, or you could build a closet and use it as its door but some really cool looking detailed closet or also again an open shelf, hanging the door at the wall and making shelfes every other of this rectengular details maybe just at the top 2 or 3 and then at the bottom some hooks so you can use it as a place to hang your jackets and coats like a coat rack kind of thing in the entryway? Maybe. Just brainstormed a bit. ;)
Now again on to continuing the video😎
Now finally I'm done with watching the video. I really liked the workbench you bought, it fits perfectly in the space and the organised pegboard remembers me of a store wall everything so neatly presented :) I wish you a nice weekend! 😊
THAT SUITCASE! ❤ It would be so cute as a corner desk/mini office space. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! MAKE THE DREAM COME TRUE!!!
lol my dad was like, "ARE YOU GONNA DO THIS FOR MY GARAGE?" and i said, "no." :P but thank you for that fun video!
That was so much fun to watch lol 😂 love the fact that you are not into the fashion bags, clothes etc. but get so excited about all the DIY tools 😝 The old suitcase would make a cool shoe cabinet 👍🤔😊
I would LOVE to see that suitcase turned into a bar/Bar cart by adding casters to the bottom or hanging it up on a wall. You could somehow hang wine glasses from the hangers by putting a couple of them together, add a mirror on the inside and even remote control lights? Oooooo I would die!!!
Make the chest into an open jewelry and accessories organizer. Add legs to it and display it open. What a neat find!
Do I see a trunk thrift flip coming??!! huh? huh? Please? I kind of see that trunk as a painting, art trunk. The drawers can hold acrylics and paintbrushes and clay and you can leave it open and hang art pieces from the hangers if you wanted to. Or - put stackable things the drawers to hold jewelry and hangers can hold long necklaces. UPDATE - NERD STUFF TRUNK!!! Make tiny shelves inside the hanging part and display all the nerd stuff.
Also - the door! It would be amazing as an accent pantry door or closet door - or a beautiful headboard.
Wallpaper the outside, put legs on the bottom to raise it up. Then keep it open as a mini closet. Could hang scarves, hat and gloves. Maybe jewelry? A bar in your living room somehow without losing the integrity of the piece. So many ideas! What an awesome find!!!
"I'm gonna stop buying wood untill all that wood is used up" says me when buying new fabric and says everyone when buying craft supplies
Nobody ever uses up all their craft supplies before buying more craft supplies.
Little known (because I just made it up) fact: the first Pharaoh interred in a pyramid had been a masonry hobbyist. His people buried him under a pile of his unused bricks, mostly as a way to get them out of the way. But the masons ended up buying more materials to finish the pyramid and then had enough left to do a second pyramid.
Great job! 😊 You really needed this gift to yourself! You are worth it! Keep up the awesome projects!😄💗
Trunk ideas: Just use it? It looks super useful for having an actually organized suitcase. Clean it up, make any style changes you want, and then have a really cool trunk to travel with. Maybe update it with wheelies and a telescoping handle if you really want.
Door ideas: wall organization? Like install baskets or hangers on it that you can put stuff in/on? Or install plant baskets on it (the half-moon wall kind) for a cool outdoor piece of vertical gardening?
I dream about a garage like that ! You could use the door for an aromatic garden with floating pots, with an industrial / farm look. The case would be nice in a bedroom, you could hang a cool t-shirt on the left side and put underwear, socks and other small items in the drawers and a cute small plant on top :)
I am soooooo sick cause I really do love watching cleaning and organizing episodes! 🤪👍🤓Karen Florida
That peg board was so satisfying
GREAT JOB!! you made a horrific job look so easy.
Suitcase:
When I had my dog I couldn't believe all the little things that accumulated & there was no logical place to keep it. I would have used this suitcase to house all my dog related things. You can even hang spare leashes, collars from the hanger. She had brushes, nail clippers, bones, chew toys, rags I only used for her paws, shampoo, flea & tick meds, coupons for dog stuff, and tons more. They could all be organised so well in that suitcase. Then you can leave it as a suitcase.👍💜
Huh, I was gonna say maybe use it in a guess room as a cute piece for them to hang stuff when over, but this idea is way cooler! Plus it's closed storage (also could hang dog costumes too hahaha).
Your sense of humor is bad ass!! Your so funny cool, beautiful and your garage is awesome!!
For the door- I think its called a "hall tree"? A coat/hat rack with a bench at the bottom for storage, etc. A place to sit and put on your shoes!
For the door, how about a vertical garden? Or maybe a sliding barn door for somewhere
I instantly thought of Topless Tammy when I saw that suitcase. Pairing together would most definitely make a huge statement piece.
You should mount that suitcase onto the wall and use it as a home office organisation. Picture it above a desk, like a pegboard, cute stationary...🤩
I would have never watched a garage organisation video, but it's yours and I loved it! What a great personality you have girl!!!
I seriously love you, friendly neighbourhood DIY 😘😂...
Please restore the suitcase and just send it to me 😁 😋
You could make the trunk a bar, check Pinterest and Etsy. They end up so cool!
Oh Danie! I love that suitcase! There are so many ideas...a portable liquor cabinet, additional storage, I’m sure there are many, many ideas out there!
Wow! Great job on the garage!
What is it you did before? You don’t seem like an office person!
Take care
Donna
For the trunk, I'd get (or you'd make) an acrylic or glass console table that just fits over and around it while it's open. That way you could see the amazing parts of it, and use it for storage of whatever. Ideas could be coffee/tea station, art supplies, linens, anything light and smallish. It's beautiful!
Turn the door into a great headboard for your bed!
Hang the Trunk on the wall displaying the interior and use it as a unique display unit for your treasures!
I mean the suitcase to me looks perfect to just add in an extra shelf and store some wine and/or liquor in. You could use the other half to store cocktail supplies and some fancy glasses too.
Danie you are such an inspiration to me. I used to do a lot more DIY's until I got sick. But I'm really still that girl at heart! I so enjoy watching your videos! I love the.smell of sawdust and loved using power tools. I need to organize my garage and keep everything that I can and should that I can use for smaller scale projects.
Idea for the door that one day I’ll make. Cut it in half and turn it into a coffee table, put a clear glass top on it. And fill the panels with all the currencies I collected from travelling.
Make a Bar out of the suitcase and a dining room table out of the door. Great job!
This really cracked me up because this is legit 💯 what my garage looks like. Then I spend days organizing and then after a couple months I have to do it again cause it goes right back to it again 😂
Loved watching you clean the garage. You did a great job organizing and putting it all back. Loved the piece you bought at Home Depot.
Love your dog !
For the trunk, please hang air plants on the hanger section in the ' pull out closet' then pull out the drawers and display your fave art pieces. Would look great in an empty corner somewhere or in an entryway 😊
As someone who owns a lot of jewelry, I'd probably turn that suitcase into a sort of portable vanity. I'd mount a mirror on the non-drawer side and add some ring holder inserts and sectioning to the drawers so I could store rings, bracelets, etc. For longer necklaces you could probably tweak the hangers that come with the suitcase so you could hang them up and still utilize that cool function of the suitcase!
That trunk is badass, very cool find. Honestly, this poor garage needed some TLC. Thank goodness for some downtime, put to good use. You guys did an incredible job!!
The door would be great as a headboard or table/desk! And the suitcase would be great to store craft supplies! Definitely don’t modify it in any way so its integrity is maintained! 😀
Danie, I think this awesome trunk could be a great storage for your sentimental pieces. you know, like old clothes you treasure or gifts from family. that way these things would be nicely hidden, but when you want to go back to them, you'll have a whole ritual of opening the chest and revealing them to yourself. And in the meantime, this truck is high enough to be a console for some decor near a wall
I have a suggestion for all the drawers and bins - keeping a list of things inside can come in very handy when running short of time. So basically a catalog stuck outside of the drawer or inside or even an e-list would work..
You could turn the suitcase into a bar cart/coffee/tea bar on wheels- forever open and add shelves where the wooden hangers go.
Danie: *makes a classic Dad pun*
Everyone: *groans* you're the worst *secretly loving the terrible pun*
Keep up the good work Danie!
For the suitcase: restore it and sell it to a vintage shop. They can mount it on a wall and display the outfit of the week on the hanger and some accessories on shelves next to it like a purse. Also, add the flame torch to the bin with the heat gun and iron and label it hot stuff. I know it would make me laugh whenever I saw it. Hei there, hot stuff. :)
Danie the suitcase reminds me of a doll house and the door i would use it as a tabletop to showcase jewelery
Great idea.
I would definitely turn the trunk into a bar! Add a couple of shelves to the left for the bottles and the drawers for storage.
The suitcase could make a cute corner vanity. Add a little mirror to the empty side, etc
Dani you are so funny and so delightful I could watch you for hours. Thank you for another fun video! 💕❤️💕⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That's not a garage that's a workshop! Looking good Dani! Wow, lucky girl, you have soo many great tools etc.! 😃🏘️🎖️🎧🔧🔨
Make a headboard from the door
Nancy Mullin that’s what I came here to say!
Another thought... I would make labels for all the drawers, bin, crates and plastic boxes. This way you know where things need to go back. Great job.
I'm telling you! We are the same person! Lol! Fun hair colors, loves diy, loves tools, loves pink, loves nerdy stuff like Star Wars and Star Trek, same sense of humor.....lol! I think you're my spirit animal! Lol!!!
Hi Dani! I love your videos! You're such a hoot!
Regarding the large suitcase (looks like it just came off the Titanic, in a good way!), I thought of repurposing it as a wall mounted bar! Use it for storage and also displaying bar items. I'd love to see you do something like that! It would be a great conversation piece as well!
Stay well, and thanks for your comedic relief! That's rare, and you're great!
You could use the trunk for plants! That’s always my go-to idea. Use the hangers for hanging planters and the drawers for little decorative spray bottles of water and liquid fertilizer and clippers and stuff!
Also the door could be a dining room table if you topped it with resin or something to make the square bits visible but level!
Love that steamer trunk. I think it would be great if you had a multi purpose room that was sometimes used as a guest room for a temporary guest closet. You would still have to find a place to store it between times, maybe up in that storage loft in the garage? There's room for it there now. Good job, Danie :)
You could use the trunk for more artsy supplies like the easel and watercolor paper. Make it up so that is a nice item in the corner of your house cause it's so awesome!
When we moved house it took my husband A WHOLE MONTH to sort / declutter the huge garage. Old doors can make great bedheads if trimmed and painted. Best wishes from Australia :))
I would watch a whole video about that trunk. like a few people have said I wouldn't alter it too much, it's so cool how it is!
I would use that beautiful door as a barn door. You could sand and stain it a more natural color. As for the trunk, that thing is gorgeous! You could restore it to something more neutral (if you’re going to actually use it) or or something that could fit in with your decor. That way you can hinge it open, open some of the compartments and maybe display some art pieces, photos, books, or plants. If for any reason you want to get rid of, I’ll gladly take it. 😉
This was a fun video! Now, of course, if you weren't so entertaining in the first place, this would have been a snooze fest. I really feel like I was able to connect with you because of your willingness to share all of the quirky things about you that some people strive to keep hidden. You're a gem, Danie! Thank you for making these videos. 🤗 Hugs from Pennsylvania
For the suitcase I pretty quickly thought about it being a small murphy desk! You can either make it to where it can close up or just leave it open with a desk folded out of it. That way it's still fashionable and usable!
I’d clean up the suitcase to my liking & use it in the guest room as decor/ storage. Maybe put a set of towels, toiletries, magazines. Think travel style. If you were staying at a hotel/ B&B or friends house, what would make you feel cozy, welcomed or invited.
I LOVE old doors!!! I made a hall tree with shelves and coat hooks to use by my front door; a headboard with led lights (using two doors) and a purse/scarf organizer using an old wood screen door. There's a ton of things you can use them for.
You could turn the gorgeous amazing case/ trunk into a little bar cart, would take a lot of creativity and adaptation but it would amazing!!!!
You should make the trunk a wall mounted vanity or it would be a super cute kids dress up wardrobe 😊 just clean it and add a mirror!
