    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 4 lety +5

      I really like running my rig with the iPad for these reasons:
      1) lots of flexibility in configuring fixtures
      2) Faster to program scenes and chases once you are up to speed with the app
      3) Small, lightweight, wireless control
      The reasons you might want to go with a simple hardware controller like an Obey 40:
      1) Simpler and easier to set up and use right out of the box
      2) Less expensive (after adding in router, interface and iPad)
      3) Benefit of physical buttons and faders
      If you are up for it, the iPad is really a better system. Appreciate you watching!

      Hi Geren- the Vibrio app says "A dimmer value determines which attributes will fade instead of snap when activated by a scene. Typically RGBWA or Dimmer attributes will use this feature"

    Thank you so much for your videos. I am doing stage lighting for a school concert with no experience, and would literally be no where without this channel! One question though, if I had a eight light setup of Chauvet Slimpar 56s, would I go about controlling each light separately? Or say, making two groups of four that only do the same thing as the other lights in that group? What would I have to do in the hardware and the software? Thank you so much for these videos!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před rokem +1

      Hi and thanks for the kind words! By grouping more than one light on the same starting address you can simplify your programming but you lose some control. For example, you could set up 2 fixtures on your controller (with 2 different starting addresses) and set 4 of your lights to each one. The result would be that each "fixture" on the controller would actually be controlling 4 lights together. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the tutorial - I am just setting up a studio with some cheap lights from Amazon and controller - Issue is they don't hold there address once shut off they work great but have to manually address evertime. I love the idea of the wireless and the app set up am going to give that a shot. for sure. Not to be a bother but why do some lights from a DMX controller only work on the panel not from the first four sliders but from slider 5 6 7 ? Can you adjust that per fixture?

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 4 lety +3

      Hi- I was having a similar issue with my budget Slim PARS- it seemed that sometimes they remembered the addressing and sometimes they didn't. It was driving me crazy until I finally discovered this: If I had them under DMX control while I was setting the address they remembered it next time I turned them on, otherwise they would only remember temporarily. (hope that works for you)
      In answer to your second question, all the fixtures I have had have had their functions "hard wired" to a specific channel that couldn't be changed. And there is no standard between different fixtures so RED might be controlled on Channel 1 with Fixture X and on Channel 5 with Fixture Y. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

My problem is, I’ve hit a dead end and even though my iPad is connected to Vibrio through the Airport, I’m not able to control the light through Vibrio. Can you please tell me, have I purchased the wrong items or what might I be missing regarding the connection settings? Maybe it’s a setting on the light I don’t have turned on? I’d appreciate any advice you might be able to give me. Thank you!

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 4 lety

      Hi- Yes you have all the correct gear to control your light (or any fixture with DMX capability)
      I assume that your airport express is creating a unique network that you are connecting to in your iPad Wi-Fi settings, and you see that same network name in the Vibrio Connection Status window? Have you created a new show in Vibrio and then a new fixture in that Show that matches your light? (same number of channels, etc.)
      I would then set that fixture profile to a starting address of 1 and make sure the starting address for your light is also set to 1. By default the light should be in DMX mode. Also make sure your ethernet cable goes from the eDMX1 to the LAN ethernet port on the airport express (marked with the 2 arrows)
      When you create a scene in that show and then go to edit and manipulate the controls, the light should react.
      If for some reason the eDMX pro and the airport express are not communicating properly, DMX King has really good tech support and should be able to get things working.
      Please let me know when you get everything up and running properly and thanks for watching!

  • @rjpimprov
    @rjpimprov Před 3 lety

    So basically you can create your own dmx assignments for generics, like you did here, regardless of what their manufacturers already programmed in for dmx channels....so long as you add the same number of channels as to line up with the number of channels the fixture is set to from factory. And that’s what gives you access to use effects as intended. Correct?

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 3 lety +2

      Thats correct. When you set up a new fixture you can also assign a name and dimmer attribute (fade or snap) to each channel to make it easier when programming. You can even go into the effects settings and program your own custom effects. (I didn't cover that in the video)

    • @LearnLizard
      @LearnLizard  Před 2 lety

      Hi- First off, I'm assuming you have the Gigbar in DMX mode? For testing make sure it is set to a starting address of 001 and the Fixture you have created in Vibrio is set to 001 also. When you create a new scene and go to edit it, you should see faders. Make sure the 1st fader is selected and it should bring up RED on the first PAR (in 11 or 23 CH mode) If that isn't working try using another fixture to make sure the router is correctly connected to the interface. I had a few issues when I originally set up my eDM1 pro ( I had the ethernet cable plugged into the wrong port on the router) The tech support at DMXking was fantastic and they got me up and running. I tested the hardware setup with an artnet app, so the lights did work using that app. Vibrio is connected to the router via artnet. @LearnLizard  Před 4 lety

      Do you have the fixture in 8 Channel DMX mode and the starting address of the physical fixture matching the starting address of of the virtual fixture you created? (assuming so) You can also try experimenting with turning the dimmer icon on and off to the right of each channel in the fixture you created. That worked when my PARS were acting finicky. Hope you get it sorted out- Vibrio is a great app!

      @ChrisGarby Před 4 lety

      @@LearnLizard Thanks for replying, yes the start address on the fixture in Vibrio is 1 and so is the actual fixture (d001) I did figure out that In the settings I had Artnet Unicast enabled, thought it should be that way because I am using Artnet. When I disabled it the lights finally reacted. The actual channels are functioning somewhat, dimmer doesn't seem to do anything, but I was able to create a few basic color scenes, add strobe, so I'll have to figure how to match the channels with the fixtures channel parameters in the manual. Those little $40 moving heads are great! I bought two of them some time ago.

    My DMX lights only have 3 pin inputs. Can these lights be used ?

      Yes- 3 pin is the most common input. I used a 5-pin to 3-pin cable for the interface in this video (my lights also have 3-pin inputs) My new interface (eDMX1 pro) has a 3-pin out so all cables can be standard. Appreciate you watching!
