On September 15, 2023, approximately 12:36AM, I (Trp. Jacob Byrd) was sitting on Interstate 630 East at the 6A working on
paperwork while running stationary radar.
While stationary, I received a reading of 72mph on radar off a vehicle approaching me from behind. As the vehicle passed me, I
was able to identify it as a dark colored Jeep Grand Cherokee (V1). After V1 passed, I flashed my spotlight at V1. When I
flashed my spotlight at V1, I did so in hopes V1 would slow down. However, V1 did the opposite and began to speed up. As V1
began speeding up I received a front radar read of 77mph. At this point, I began trying to catch up to V1 to initiate a traffic stop.
When I was catching up to V1, it was obvious that V1 was now traveling at speeds more than 100mph and not slowing down. I
had my front radar on which received a speed of 115mph just before I caught up to V1. As I got closer to V1 around Woodrow
Street, I initiated my emergency equipment. With the gap between V1 and myself closing, V1 abruptly exit I630EB at Broadway
continuing east onto the service road. At this time V1 almost struck another vehicle causing a crash but was able to regain
control and continued fleeing. Shortly after, V1 came to a final stop on the service road at Center Street. The driver (S1) and
passengers (S2, S3, S4) were placed into custody where eventually the passengers were released.
S1 remained in custody and was transported to the Pulaski County Jail where he was charged with the following:
5-54-125(d)(3) 2023: FLEEING - FELONY - VEHICLE OR CONVEYANCE - SUBSTANTIAL DANGER OF DEATH
27-50-308(b)(1)(B) 1ST: RECKLESS DRIVING - 1ST
27-50-302(a)(7): SPEEDING - MORE THAN 15 MPH OVER LIMIT
27-51-104(b)(1): IMPROPER OR UNSAFE LANE CHANGE

I would say that turning a warning for going less than 10mph over the speed limit into a felony charge for fleeing, is a terrible decision. At least he didn't turn it into a deadly decision.

I like Byrd. He is firm but never unprofessional. He doesn't scream expletives or give confusing directions, just keeps the car controlled and at bay until his backup arrives.
Mr. @KevinSun242, Yes, this time ASP Officer Jacob Byrd refrained from his cussing, which was BOTH refreshing and quite surprising. I do know that NOBODY is perfect, sinless, AND I understand that in the heat of the moments with most L.E.O.’s they allow cussing from their mouths, and sometimes some of these L.E.O.’s also use The Lord’s name in vain. I have seen SEVERAL videos of ASP Officer Jacob Byrd and he is completely professional in his actions, BUT he wallows verbally as if he came out of the same sewer as the criminals that he stops and arrests. ASP Officer Jacob Byrd sadly is NOT the only ASP Officer to spew their spleens with cussing AND using The Lord’s name in vain. The “hero worshipping” of ASP Officer Jacob Byrd makes us somewhat blind to his foul mouth. Why some of these L.E.O.’s lower themselves to the same level verbally as the criminals, I have no idea. As I started my comment, ASP Officer Jacob Byrd refrained and surprised me with his non-cussing, may he continue to do so from now on.

Trooper Byrd is a true professional. He really is teaching that young man that what he was doing was putting his passengers at risk of injury or death. The lady with the cell phone in her hand is something I am too old to understand. Is it really that difficult to put the thing down when you know that you are about to have your hands cuffed behind you? I see young people who simply can't separate themselves from their phones, even when they are told that they can't have them. The secure area that I worked in did not allow possession of anything that had a camera in it and some of them still couldn't get it through their heads that their phones were on that list. The security detail was always taking phones away from people who got all upset about it. Some of them made such a big deal about it that they got themselves fired. Kind of like some of the drivers who ASP stops, who can't understand what they did wrong. "I didn't do nuffin'."
Its actually more about them trying to get someone (friend/family) on the line just so they can hear & make up any bs lies if needed, or to try & get their phone cam going. Either way, just a pathetic attenpt to try to place any little blame on the Officers. It's a huge game with those people.
