From Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden Final Season - Dawn of a Shallow Dream - BD vol. 2 Episode 3 Direction / Storyboard : Midori Yoshizawa
This whole scene is basically an example of a friend trying to convince their friend not to commit suicide, only to wind up pushing them into it, albeit unintentionally. The only difference imo is that this scenario is playing out in the context of Magireco, a Madoka Magica spinoff and magical girl anime.
This scene is more tragic when you found out about more about Kuroe in the Magia Record mobile game. She wished to be with the boy she has a crush on so she was granted with a power to gather attention. Kuroe dated the boy but she felt that she was just simply tricking the boy to fall for her, so she decided to end their relationship. This would also explain why Iroha, despite not actually being her friend from the start, keeps bumping to her and even work forces with her. This was probably made worse when she knew the dark secret about magical girls and witches. She realized her wish was not worth it since she just wanted her crush to love her and now she felt guilty of "tricking" him. Now her life now as magical girl is full of danger and she would either die in a battle or became a witch. Iroha's attempt in this scene to lift her spirit up and save her from becoming a witch will be a failure. Kuroe just see Iroha's effort of rescuing her as just an effect of her attention-seeking powers.
@@deltahalo241yeah, though I think their soul gems clouding is an indicator of how much emotional turmoil they're experiencing. People tend to lash out and act irrationally when they're less emotionally sound.

Because of that, when Iroha implied that Kuroe should be the magical girl she believed she should be, Kuroe came to the conclusion she can never can never be that girl and witched out, thinking it as a better option then to continue being a ‘failure’ of a magical girl.

But seeing Kuroe’s smile just before Ichizo comes out… I see now that the Magical Girl I envisioned can only be born from pain.
Woah, I love how they made Ichizo sound more unintelligible after being released. It seems more fitting, sad and disturbing. Also love the change when her soul gem becomes a grief seed, we see Ichizo manifesting.
After watching it a few times, I’m starting to notice parallels in foils between Kuroe/Iroha with Homura/Madoka. The pink and purple combination. Pink symbolizing childlike innocence whereas purple is unusually mysterious, fitting both of the pairs pretty nicely. Homura goes out of her way to save Madoka from dying every timeline, no matter how hard it becomes. Kuroe chooses to die while Iroha does everything she thought she could do to save her. One failed but kept fighting. The other fought and failed. Magia Record might’ve had some poor moments, but it had a lot of amazing moments in writing.
In the mobile game, Kuroe has an attention-seeking powers which he also used to get the attention of her crush to date her. She ended her relationship with him out of guilt because she is basically tricking him. I think in this scene where Iroha attempted to save her, Kuroe just thinks that this was just wher power influencing Iroha's actions. She may have also think that Iroha won't save her or even care for her if it wasn't for her attention-seeking powers.
That'll be another parallel between Homura and Kuroe because they both felt guilty of using their powers and don't get what they want and therefore never being truly happy.
My friend pointed this out to me, and with the ending of last birds hope, it seems that kuroe and iroha is just homura and madoka backwards. Perhaps in walpurgisnacht rising, homura will become a messenger of ultimate madoka like kuroe became a messenger of infinite iroha
I know its already obvious but jesus the way she said "How long do i have to keep being a magical girl" which is basically just "How long do i have to keep fighting/living" is soo ABSHDHDHD
I mean bless iroha for pushing and trying, but I sided more with kuroe here. I also have a hopelessly gung ho positive friend and this is really what it feels like to talk to them sometimes. It just really hurt when iroha kept saying magical girls are amazing and can do all these things when clearly kuroe doesn't feel that way. And to bring up wishes was just- aAH her wish is meaningless at this point, there's nothing for her to fight for anymore. Iroha pleASE-
On rewatching the series, I really noticed how many of Kuroe and Iroha's conversations were underpinned with Iroha talking about how Magical Girls should help each other. Each conversation making Kuroe admire Iroha more yet also making her feel more and more guilty for the girl she abandoned
When I first saw this, I wasn't sure how to feel. It felt like the first time Madoka was cruel just for the sake of being cruel. However, looking at it again, I think it works. For as bleak as Madoka is, it hasn't really tackled suicidal depression up to this point, with the closest being Homura entering the labyrinth in episode 10 of the original show. Viewing this through that lens, Kuroe is someone who believes she has no worth and is just stringing people along. Iroha's normal words of encouragement don't work because it's only further enforcing how Kuroe views herself. It's horrible, but it's a very real tragedy, and it makes me wish all the more she had a happy ending. But I'm no longer upset with how it was handled, I like it quite a bit now to be honest.
@@someone-uz4mi so... Now i understand why Homura saying that "We've been tricked by Kyuubey" So the main thing is Kyuubey try to convince "Innocent Girl" to believe that Magical Girl is always for hope! And bla bla bla... Now the point of become Magical Girl is to "Survive" ...
I love Kuroe, an average not-too-inquisitive person who simply thought it would be a good idea to have a wish granted; but regrets choosing a life of hard labor from where there is no turning back; and who hates it all the more because she keeps seeing other magical girls that somehow cope with this life of eternal fighting to stay alive much better than her, either due to their nature or upbringing. There's probably many more like her who turned into witches in a few weeks, but MadoMagi and MagiReco only show us her; most of the main characters actually "love their job", as it were. It sucks when it feels like you are the only one who both is kinda bad at fighting witches, and hates having to keep doing it to survive.
Her witch transformation is also depressing as Sayaka's except Kuroe wanted to be a witch to end her suffering while Sayaka had no idea she will become a witch.
Just like that nighthawk in The Nighthawk Star who is ugly to the point other nighthawk hate him for sharing the same name, feel guilty for accidentally eating a bug and wished to be a star to not hurt anyone. Kuroe was too weak to fight Witch, her wished betray her and the fact that she can save that girl by give away her grief seed, but she choose not to and the consequence but a lot of guilt on her soul, thing got even worse after she found out the truth about magical girl, she now realized that her "death" also create a monster that will hurt everyone around. This explain why Kuroe and her doppel slowly build up tower of mud below to get higher, she was too afraid to let anyone die because of her despair. *“Now, no one will save me. Now, I don’t have to save anyone. Now, I can stop being a Magical Girl.”* is what Ichizo said after break out from the so call salvation that was locking her from freedom, no one can risk their life killing a monster like her, she don't have to feel guilty for not saving other and the wish she made, the price she has to pay for that wish is no longer a thing she has to think about, and finally, she don't have to use this ugly body anymore. After being freed, Ichizo has one last thing to do, flying to a place where her existence won't affect anyone, to be a blue star glowing brightly on the sky.
Kuroe: tells Iroha that she wished for the courage to ask a boy out and that she was immediately rejected (cuz she only asked for courage, not for the guy to like her back) Iroha: Do you remember your wish?! You need to fight for it!! Iroha girl you didn't even listen to your friend? Her sitaution is literally the shittiest
A, no she rejected him, she literally says "dont call me again" on the phone before fighting servant of anima. B, Iroha is genuinely trying to help, not by reminding Kuroe of her wish but telling her that there is hope in the future. Kuroe refuses to accept the helping hand offered to her due to her own self loathing and becomes a witch
You are confusing Kuroe with Momoko. In the first episode of the anime, we see Kuroe saying that she wished to go out with the person she liked, and we learn in the game that Momoko wished for the courage to ask out her crush, however another girl asked him out before her and he accepted
I think the reason you see the impurities of her soul gem in her eyes is because the eyes are the window to the soul tbh I think I’m onto something PS: I JUST REALIZED THE COLOR OF A MAGICAL GIRL’S SOUL GEM MATCHES THEIR EYES
1:37 Interesting, they made her lines pure witchspeak here by reversing and juxtaposing some of the original lines from the TV version. This was just muffled/deeper Japanese in the TV version, saying* : "Watashi wa mou dareka ni sukuwarenai (I can no longer be saved by anyone) Watashi wa mou dareka mo sukuwanakute ii (I no longer have to save anyone) Watashi wa mou mahou shoujo wo yamerareru (I can now stop being a magical girl)" * The "dareka" sounds more like anata (you) in the first sentence & kimi (you) in the second sentence; but since Kuroe never uses either pronoun for Iroha, it's probably just dareka (anyone). The English subs I saw also had something along these lines.
Has anyone tried to reverse the audio when Ichizo speaks? I'm curious whether it's just gibberish or if it's like with H.N. Elly where she's speaking in reverse.
in the tv vers it had translations like this and you can hear kuroe clearly near the end (adding an implication shes still very concious here) ofc its still audible in the bluray "now, nobody can save me. now, i don't need to save anyone. now, i can stop being a magical girl."
I remember that the human bodies remain intact, but just as regular corpses (seen with both Sayaka and Madoka). Which was why I was so confused with Ui's transformation into Eve in the anime, since in the game, her body was still intact - which matches the original series.
@@someone-uz4mi in the anime it's probably because they had activated the doppel system already so she started doppeling out but that disrupted her role in the doppel system so she completely turns into a witch including her body which was already affected
was the nightjar call at 1:54 always there, or just an addition for the blu ray version? either way, a neat detail considering the novel her doppel/witch is based on
@@cthulhumari I'll have to look that one up! I saw a video from a Japanese user who recorded a grey nightjar's call (that's the species they stated at least...) that sounded similar to the one here.
Okay so, everyone here seems to have misunderstood something. Iroha's attempt at positivity had nothing to do with Kuroe becoming a witch. Kuroe's despair is the fact that she refuses to try to improve: she says "I'm weak" and lets it at that. Her memory of that girl she met when fighting "servant of anima" thats then followed by a grief seed dropping to the ground along with a puzzle piece is meant to show that Kuroe had a grief seed on her, she could have helped that girl, she could have asked for her name and contact info, they could have become a team and could have been friends but Kuroe ran away instead, letting her own weakness stop her from helping someone else and possibly improving her situation. The scene with Iroha and the rest of the cast placing the missing puzzle pieces is meant to show how Iroha overcame her weakness through team work and finding people to stay by her side, but when Kuroe is offered a piece she doubles down on her negativity and becomes a witch. Thats why the last episode of season 2 shows Kuroe seeing Iroha as a puzzle piece, Iroha is everything Kuroe wishes she was but lets her own fear stop her from reaching out and achieving said goal. In the end Ichizo is searching for a missing puzzle piece called "strength" that she can never find, simply because there isnt a mythical strength that makes you a better person, you become a better person by improving upon yourself and reaching out for help when necessary. No one is strong, not Iroha, not Yachiyo, not Tsuruno, no one. The difference is, the above mentioned reached out and found others to help them. Ultimately Iroha's attempt at helping has nothing to do with Kuroe becoming a witch. This is no one's fault but Kuroe's. Much like Sayaka, Kuroe did this to herself. She simply screamed "I'm weak" and doubled down when given the thing that could help her. She refused to take the hand offered to her and paid the price in full.
I don't think the argument is that Iroha killed Kuroe in this scene, it's just that she didn't help. Not that anyone could have helped, though, as you said, Kuroe did this to herself.
Sayaka outright refuses to change her outlook from the fact she has other ways to go to other than catalysing her transition into Oktavia deliberately even with the others intervening, its only after a certain trigger while working for Madoka after her death then she finally understood from a different angle, hence her being able to let go from her obsession with Kyosuke and bless Hitomi in Rebellion
I noticed too that's theme is not released, i listened all soundtrack of the playlist and, for now, i can't found it, i have even the Bluray of the season 3, but nothing of that track, i thinks that maybe is of a movie of Madoka Original or something like that.
Kessoooo. Magica Gaiden I love it and Kuroe, why not corrupt Iroha before you gone. Haishh. It's too early for you to do this. I'm very sad. I like you with Tamaki. Just try be a bad girl to her but.... Pout.
Hey, remember this girl from the first episode of season 1? Yeah, she’s an important character in this season. No, of course she wont detract from the characterization of the other already established characters.
Eh, I think Kuroe slotted pretty well into the Season 2 cast lineup, if there were any characters that detracted from the main cast then I'd say it was the original Madoka cast. I understand it's a whole thing in the game but the original cast are really only there to say "Hey look, it's a Madoka series" it feels like.
@@deltahalo241 Both the original Madoka cast and Kuroe detracted from season 2. Instead of focusing on the relationships between the girls we had come to know in season 1, we focus on a girl that we saw for, like, five minutes in the first episode and then never again until they decided to make her relevant.
Why Iroha had to kill Ichizo though? Not all witches murder people. Ichizo was just want to fly awau to the little bird star at 02:04 . She should just left her.
Sure they might not kill people but the familiars will do anything to become their own witches therefore killing people are repanding curses so it better to kill ichizo before it gets too late
She would've ended up 'dying' in her witch form (look up the description or the description of her doppel form) and it would've been much kinder to just end her misery now and then rather let her suffer

Born from pain even in comparison to that of most magical girls.

Each conversation making Kuroe admire Iroha more yet also making her feel more and more guilty for the girl she abandoned
iroha was a hypocrite, if things weren't absolutely perfect then she'd tear the whole system down

This is the same as Mami death on the original anime, no one expected this and it's so sad
Depressive
Her witch transformation is also depressing as Sayaka's except Kuroe wanted to be a witch to end her suffering while Sayaka had no idea she will become a witch.
There is a difference. This is more deppressing
To be quite honest, Mami's death was a shock but she actually kinda deserved it.
It made me sad I feel they could’ve expanded on Kuroe a lot. But it did heighten the stakes of their battle.
Ichizo (Kuroe's witch) looks like a dead pigeon. There's always something terrifying about dead birds.
probably her wish is HOPE.
not HELP.
White DOVE are symbolize as HOPE.

Kuroe: tells Iroha that she wished for the courage to ask a boy out and that she was immediately rejected (cuz she only asked for courage, not for the guy to like her back)
Iroha: Do you remember your wish?!

1:37 Interesting, they made her lines pure witchspeak here by reversing and juxtaposing some of the original lines from the TV version. This was just muffled/deeper Japanese in the TV version, saying* :
"Watashi wa mou dareka ni sukuwarenai (I can no longer be saved by anyone)
Watashi wa mou dareka mo sukuwanakute ii (I no longer have to save anyone)
Watashi wa mou mahou shoujo wo yamerareru (I can now stop being a magical girl)"
* The "dareka" sounds more like anata (you) in the first sentence & kimi (you) in the second sentence; but since Kuroe never uses either pronoun for Iroha, it's probably just dareka (anyone). The English subs I saw also had something along these lines.
Has anyone tried to reverse the audio when Ichizo speaks? I'm curious whether it's just gibberish or if it's like with H.N. Elly where she's speaking in reverse.
in the tv vers it had translations like this and you can hear kuroe clearly near the end (adding an implication shes still very concious here) ofc its still audible in the bluray
"now, nobody can save me. now, i don't need to save anyone. now, i can stop being a magical girl."

I always wondered what happened to the bodies half the time... I don't have to anymore...
I always thought the bodies became a piece of the witch like Oktavia in some timelines, Kriemheld or Homulily, I GUESS NOT
I remember that the human bodies remain intact, but just as regular corpses (seen with both Sayaka and Madoka).
Which was why I was so confused with Ui's transformation into Eve in the anime, since in the game, her body was still intact - which matches the original series.

I couldn’t have days it better myself
This is an extremely good theory! I love it and it makes a whole lot of sense.
There is not better comment than this.
I don't think the argument is that Iroha killed Kuroe in this scene, it's just that she didn't help. Not that anyone could have helped, though, as you said, Kuroe did this to herself.
Sayaka outright refuses to change her outlook from the fact she has other ways to go to other than catalysing her transition into Oktavia deliberately even with the others intervening, its only after a certain trigger while working for Madoka after her death then she finally understood from a different angle, hence her being able to let go from her obsession with Kyosuke and bless Hitomi in Rebellion
good

Hey, remember this girl from the first episode of season 1? Yeah, she’s an important character in this season. No, of course she wont detract from the characterization of the other already established characters.
Eh, I think Kuroe slotted pretty well into the Season 2 cast lineup, if there were any characters that detracted from the main cast then I'd say it was the original Madoka cast. I understand it's a whole thing in the game but the original cast are really only there to say "Hey look, it's a Madoka series" it feels like.

Why Iroha had to kill Ichizo though? Not all witches murder people. Ichizo was just want to fly awau to the little bird star at 02:04 .
She should just left her.
Because as seen in rebbelion, when one becomes a witch they will be tortured mentally forever. It's better to get her out of her pain and misery
Sure they might not kill people but the familiars will do anything to become their own witches therefore killing people are repanding curses so it better to kill ichizo before it gets too late
