    I’m going to possibly die alone on this hill. But I’m calling Darnold is a top 12 QB this year.

      I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think in fact, Sam plays so well that they might consider trading JJ McCarthy next year, as it could upset the players if the Vikings choose to not resign Sam Darnold. Anyways, I really believe that this could be a Purdy/Lance situation all over again. But the difference is that JJ will be way better than Trey Lance.

      @PJ-fc2hf why would they trade JJ when they could just resign darnold? Rodgers sat 3 seasons behind Favre

    • @punisher5598
      @punisher5598 Před 21 dnem

      @@PJ-fc2hf barring JJ being an absolute bust within the first season, there is no chance they trade JJ. Even if he has an incredible year, the team is built around having a rookie scale contract for 5 years. It’d be malpractice to end up giving him a massive contract after 1 year when the natural questions of how much was him vs how much was the weapons and HC.
      It’s also not just the contract, but losing a top 10 asset in JJ. No one will give up a 1st or 2nd round pick for a player that hasn’t played a game.

    I wouldnt be mad about it. Id probably get frustrated if Darnold sucks and probably halfheartedly call for McCarthy, but i know he needs to sit and learn. I dont want to rush him like the Pats will inevitably do with Maye. Darnold COULD have a Baker like year. Is it likely? Probably not. But with hes surrounding core, i could see it happen.

  • @jayramsey690
    @jayramsey690 Před 26 dny +3

    Agree. We need a competent QB with brains and some amount of legs and of course , an arm. Darnold has it all plus experience, and he’s motivated. It would be an error to assume McCarthy HAS to be a starter despite the (albeit, on paper) advantage Darnold has. Mahommes sat behind Alex Smith, Brees wasn’t successful right out of the gate. Look at how RG 3 was bungled…..the road to hell is paved with broken down rookies with high hopes.

    Darnold has an opportunity to flip his career and be a hot commodity. He has a lot of tools with the Vikings to help him resurrect his career, It would be great if he came in and played lights out. If Darnold plays well the Vikings found their starter or could trade him to get some early draft picks. It is just as likely the Vikings fail and are out of the playoffs by week 11 or 12 and people want to see the rookie play. The Vikings don't have a QB on the roster that has ever been a winner in the NFL.

  • @zackaryhaselius2226
    @zackaryhaselius2226 Před 26 dny +2

    Should have brought in Tyrod Taylor. Not that i hate Darnold, but Taylor is THE QB mentor. Ge mentored Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield and Justin Herbert.

  • @deanladue5367
    @deanladue5367 Před 26 dny +1

    I think Darnold will surprise some people. Has a strong arm, is accurate (when given time) and he's mobile and will take off if pressured. Something Cousins hardly ever did. Plus for maybe the first time ever Sam will have a full compliment of weapons at his disposal, something that he never had in New York or Carolina.

    I'm with PA on this one. The more I think about it the more it seems to me that there isn't any reason to play JJ at all this year. If they're winning, or even if they're hovering around .500 and in the playoff mix with Darnold then why make a change at QB? If they're losing then why put JJ into a bad situation? Honestly, I wouldn't be mad if they went 3-14 with Darnold and had a top 3 pick in next year's draft. The only concern I have is are the owners on board with tolerating a bad season now for the sake of the future because I'm worried that making coaching changes this early into JJ's development could really hurt him.
    Edit: Actually, there is one scenario I can see JJ getting put in. Say they're 5-4 and lose 2 straight because of bad QB play then maybe they think about bringing in JJ to keep them alive for a playoff spot. And that's if they think JJ is ready to play.

    Look at Darnold's records at the Jets vs. Geno Smith's and Zach Wilson's (worst team in the league), and his record vs. Baker Mayfield's at the Panthers (exact the same team, same year). Look at his numbers for the very first 3 games he played with CMC at the Panthers (and the only 3 games they played together healthy), he will do well for the Vikings!

    The Darnold / JJMac experiment will be quite revealing. Can KOC fix a "ruined" QB prospect? Was Sam Darnold actually traumatized, or was he just a raw rookie playing on a couple really bad teams?
    At the same time, can KOC resist the temptation to put his talented rookie QB into live game situations, maybe before he's truly ready? McCarthy is not as raw as Jordan Love in Green Bay, but JJMac really does need tons of reps to smooth out his mechanical glitches, and to get the playbook so drilled into his head that he knows exactly what's supposed to happen on every play. That's the McCarthy we all want to see, but it might take a full season on the bench before he gets there. The last thing we want is a hesitant JJ McCarthy making bad decisions because his grasp of the playbook is still a little weak. Give the kid time to learn. The payoff will be fantastic.
    The best possible outcome is that Sam Darnold plays great, and the Vikings have the wonderful problem of which star QB to use in 2025 and beyond. That was the problem the 49ers had with Joe Montana and Steve Young. Sigh!
    BTW: Mononucleosis is a physical disaster of a disease. I had it as a kid, and it ruined my health for a year. If that's how bad Darnold's case was, there's nothing he could do about it. Hope somebody invents a cure.

    I want Darnold to start the whole year. If he does, it means the Vikings had a good season and if he takes the Vikings deep into the playoffs, the Vikings will bring him back in 2025, as a starter. We want a successful a quarterback it doesn’t matter who gives it to us. That said, it probably won’t happen. He’ll either get hurt or Sam will play like he played with other teams turning the ball over a lot, and loosing. We shall see!
