- One crazy 4th of July weekend brought together a whole bunch of my friends from New Orleans and Nashville together for a bunch of musical adventures. Here we have Casey Jane and Chris Acker (biggest of the growing boys), playing a Michael Hurley song at Langhorne Slim's house. We'd previously been shooting Langhorne's video with Josh Shoemaker (famous music video director), and Sean (Langhorne) invited us all over for pizza afterwards.
Shoemaker helps run amazing audio while Ernie the dog helps the viral value of the video go up 1000x. That's Zach on the bass, who played bass on Chris Acker's last video we released. Casper Allen even makes a brief walk-by appearance. Yes folks, this is a star studded fun-time. I know a few of y'all have shouted out Michael Hurley as a possible songwriter to look out for.. well, this isn't quite him, but we're getting closer. I'll have to check him out, and you should too.
Make sure you check out Acker's music, (chrisacker.bandcamp.com).
Casey's music is available here: (thelostines.bandcamp.com)

That warm, loving, beautiful lock of their eyes is just incredible.
I love how slim is in the back enjoying the magic.
I feel like I came in on the end of a movie... like a warm scene at the end of a country Christmas movie 🤠
Dog seems happy, I'm happy.
Wish we had more musicians like this.
we do buddy, they're all on this channel!
This scene reminded me a lot of the Townes Van Zandt bits of Heartworn Highways. I wonder if I’ll be looking back at this video in the future like I do the Townes videos. Incredible work on your part and theirs
i hope so! these are the 21st century versions of our hero songwriters from back then!
I like this cause of the pup on her lap. I love how near the end he is singing to the dog and wifey/girlie looks a tad jealous. 🤓
I always come back to this video. One of the best that GemsonVHS has done imo. I think this is such a perfect performance. Almost seems like a big movie production, and yet it's not. This is always the video I link to when introducing people to this channel. Wish an entire set was filmed in this manner. It's perfection!
One of the most wonderful things I've ever been lucky to experience. Thank you.
Michael Hurley is one of the great unsung talents of the USA
Pentti
@@charleswortz We lost a great man last night... I dont often say people were too good for this earth, but it couldnt be more accurate than in the case of this sweet prince, whose great love couldnt be confined to the human species, but instead encompassed the totality of the web of life. RIP Pentti Linkola 1932 - 2020
Adding to the fact that their voices are like melted honey in a cup of hot tea; is that they're at Langhorne's house... So much twinkle in one video
so true! a special little moment in time.
That was a great way to put it darling!!
Holy moly donut shop...I love langhorne slim...I didnt even see him till I read this comment
fantastic, one of my favorite Michael Hurley songs
Like a new heartworn highway. Reminds me of dinner scene. She has such a beautiful voice. Almost looks like he has a mad crush on her
Well I do. From the UK.
Oh, my stars, your voices are amazing! Also, I couldn't help to notice how lovely they look at each other.. that smile from 2:17. Beautiful!! Great work!
Can confirm, Ernie the dog increases the viral impact of the video.
Another phenomenal video mate. Their voices are amazing!
That was absolutely wonderful! Thanks for sharing (:
Man she’s something else.
I don't know the two of you, but I wish I did. :) Thank you, so much for this.
come out to one of their shows n meet em! perfectly nice folks, approachable as all get out.
*cries* Ernie is my star. Why is it easier to appreciate how golden and perfect friends are when you see them on a screen? Thank you, Mr. VHS man, for your eyes that allow that to live.
thank you, Wenchface. you're the best.
Gems! I've found more amazing tunes over the last 3+ years than I know what to do with, thanks to what you're doin. First was lost dog street band. which I had the good fortune to see live recently in Bend, then Portland Oregon. I cannae thank you enough.
thank you buddy! more is coming.
Loved it.
Anthony THanks for this .. Really sweet and loose like on the edge of a mountain road with no fence but a really beautiful veiw ... David Bromberg used to play guitar like that or Levon Helm's druming .. :)

I think I just fell in like be with Casey.
Does anyone know if Casey Jane has any solo work?
i dont think she does actually. she has a band thats a duo shes in. hopefully soon! dont make the same mistake i did and find the OTHER casey jane on bandcamp. embarrassing.
@@GemsOnVHS Thanks I'll be sure not to She has such a great voice, Hopefully she records something.
What is the name of her duo?!
The Lostines. Go check em out, great stuff
Sounding like randy newman lol
Get snock himself on here :)
never heard of em
Aka Michael Hurley
P.s. great vids, saw Heckler live for 2nd time last night cuz of these
@@GemsOnVHS Micheal Hurley damn helped invent what these people do? - old sounding music for newer times. "Someone to watch out for"? Hope that was an ironic statement. The man started with the Holy Modal Rounders in the NYC Folk Scene of the 60's (think Dylan) and has been releasing amazing albums for near 50 + years. And he is still alive.
they're drunks, but they're not hacks
Wish she didn’t try to sing over him
