- Presenting selections from the Rei Harakami discography for 1990-2011
Rei Harakami is one of the few artists in the past 20 years that was flourishing with a unique and timeless sound who's life was taken too soon. Despite this, his music continues to live on in the souls of many.
The following is a excerpt from Yasuto Yura;

Harakami’s music transcends borders and time, and is still listened to today. Why do you think that is, and what do you think is the appeal of his music?
"I believe it’s because he made things that hadn’t ever existed in this world, and that’s been true since he was making films. I think he hated going along with the scene or being put in a category, so he used his own methods to make whatever he wanted. I mean, isn’t every Harakami song immediately recognizable as one of his? There won’t be any new songs, but he made music that was so original that you instantly know it’s Harakami when you listen to it. I don’t think that will ever fade away. I still listen to his music from time to time, and it never feels old. His music had its own unique universe. And I think that was born from Hiroi Sekai and Semai Sekai. Some people use various techniques to make songs that go with the current trends, but Harakami made music separate from that. That won’t change whether ten years pass or 100 years pass. They aren’t songs or sounds that feel like they belong to a specific era. They don’t get old, and even today, people can still listen to his music normally."

Poor man, to die at 41. What skill we have been deprived of.
That’s the scary thing about brain haemorrhages, you can seem perfectly fine and healthy one minute and then the next you either have a pounding headache that feels like a pickaxe was driven straight into your head causing you to vomit all over the place, or you suddenly slump over and pass out never to wake up again, or both.
Smoking (which Harakami-san did and is a big thing in Asia), excessive sodium consumption (ditto), high blood pressure, and other factors can increase your risk of such, all of which contribute to East Asian countries having high incidences of stroke in contrast with heart disease in the west.
Get regular checkups at least every 6 months, avoid tobacco, limit alcohol, salt, sugar, and saturated/trans fats, and eat food from a variety of different sources.

this is the perfect blend of busy and rainy-day-mellow for scratching that itch that most ppl turn to atmospheric breakcore for. Good stuff, will definitely listen to this more than once, but what pulled me in, like, I just HAVE to comment about this -- chocolat is like, borderline atonal... how is there a groove? how do I still feel like I'm at Tom's Diner at the mall??? absolute MAGIC TRICK is what this song is.
thankyou. to you and rei.
God Bless for your work. thank you.
I've watched every day since 19k but thisls the one that finally made me comment Thankyou for this
Perfect to get me through a work day
i love him so much
BROOO THIS SOUND... is incredible
The crazy thing is, he was able to accomplish this using little more than a Roland SC-88Pro sound module and VS-2000CD digital audio workstation from the late 1990’s and early 2000’s as well as a MIDI sequencer that ran on Mac OS 9. The tones themselves can be had with an SC-88Pro soundfont or Roland’s Sound Canvas VA plug-in, but do be warned that the latter is still undergoing testing on Apple Silicon Macs and I couldn’t get it to run, neither natively nor under Rosetta. So pick your poison, I guess.
Beautiful, great work!

First time listener here and I’m completely immersed. How did you all feel listening to him the first time?
I was hella happy to discover such a unique sound and then super sad to hear that he’s no longer with us. 😢
@@nolongeractive00 always a bummer
@@awareclueless Definitely. At least I’ll listen to his music possibly forever and even try to create similar sounding tracks myself.
My first song that i heard by rei was Remain. I felt something I couldnt explain.
Joy changed my life when I first heard that song on YT back in 2019, in fact the whole album (it's from Lust, his best album imo) changed my life, it's probably the best Ambient album I've ever heard, and I pretty much listen to his songs on a regular basis ever since.
Beautiful music. Thanks for sharing this artist with us!
thank you for all these wonderful uploads ! appreciate every minute of it
I have a feeling that Richard D James secretly admires his work.
