  • It's an honor for me to post a cover from one of the all-time great American musicians & recording artists. Before he was an electric guitar icon, Eric Johnson was a piano player, and you can often hear this in his harmonic structures. EJ was a local Austin legend in the 80s before he finally achieved his commercial breakthrough with the snazzy instrumental piece Cliffs of Dover in 1990 and came to wider notice. The song had appeared 4 years earlier on Eric's Ah Via Musicom album, which is also the source of 40 Mile Town, a ballad that highlights EJ's perennially underrated vocal talent & lyric writing. Along with Ah Via Musicom, EJ's albums Tones and Venus Isle are a must for all audiophiles, with each containing about half instrumental and half vocal tracks. On a separate note, i received my first copyright strike last week after Don Henley's publisher apparently contacted CZcams and told them to take down my cover of New York Minute, which had been appearing near the top of Google searches on the song. So let me say it again, as always - this video has no commercial use.

Been listening to Greg Lake's "Father Christmas" a lot lately to keep my mind cool during the heat wave. Can you do something by ELP? How about Lucky Man? Touch n Go is a great tune by ELPowell, also.

Sounds really good. I love me some Eric Johnson.
    A couple notes:
    - The part leading to the bridge accelerated a bit. This might be intentional, but I found it distracting.
    - Maybe try to get your vocal a little hotter in the mix? Just a touch. It might be as simple as moving the phone slightly.
All in all, this is a great rendition of a great song--keep up the good work--subscribed!

As for the copyright strike, I understand there's a way to license music through CZcams. I've not done it, but I believe you just need to tick a few boxes and you're done--I might be wrong about that part.
I expect if your channel is monetized, then the original rights holder would get a portion (all?) of the revenue from your vid--but at least you'd get to keep the content posted.
I've heard multiple times that the Eagles are among the most aggressive in protecting their intellectual property. They (and Led Zeppelin) may be an exception to all of the above.
