So funny that the American music industry didn't know how to market her. It was artists like her who introduced white boys like me to something other than rock and easy listening. I was never into rap or hip hop but she bridged the gap and produced something uniquely accepted by people of all walks. Thanks Neneh. You're still on my playlist to this day.

    I stan this absolute queen.
Neneh Cherry's stepdad was Jazz legend Don Cherry and her brother was one-hit-wonder Eagle-Eye Cherry ("Save Tonight", 1998). Born in Sweden in the 60s, when she moved to the UK as a teenager in the 70s, she joined up with legendary all-girl Punk Rock act The Slits as part of their touring entourage, then formed her own Noise/Avant Jazz combo, called Rip Rig + Panic. She then met her husband/longtime collaborator Cameron "Booga Bear" McVey, an aspiring Dance Music producer. "Buffalo Stance" began as a remix of "Looking Good Diving" by Booga Bear's band at the time, Morgan-McVey. Over the years she has collaborated on records with Gorillaz, The The, Four Tet , and Michael Stipe (of R.E.M.),
She had another Top10 US hit with "Kisses on the Wind" (US#8, 1989), and she also had a hit duet with African Pop star Youssou N'Dour ("Seven Seconds", 1994). She has collaborated with all sorts of artists across many genres over the decades, but one little known fact about her is that she gave Biggie Smalls his big break when he guest rapped on a remix of her Modern Rock hit "Buddy X" (US#43, 1993). Another fun fact is that she helped several UK Trip-Hop acts get their start. (Trip-Hop was a genre of 90s music built around slow Hip-Hop beats and brooding vocals). But most of the major acts of the genre Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead got their start practicing in the basement of the house she shared with Booga Bear.

I LOVED your reaction to this video and also love that you like the song! This song came out in 1989......I was a sophomore in high school. This song ruled the charts and rocked the radio and dance clubs. I honestly to this day still have the cassette single of this song...back then they released the artists singles on a cassette tape with another album song on the other side so you could just buy the single song if you didn't want to buy the whole album. I loved your reaction.....you really got into it and I could tell that you like it. Your video made me soooo happy.....thank you for reacting to this song and giving me a happy boost I needed after a long day!

Yes old school hip hop. I was trying for days to record this video on my VCR off MTV and when I finally got it I wore that tape out.
