  • Clicker training will help your cat (or dog) learn so much faster and learn more tricks than you ever imagined possible. The clicker is NEVER used unless followed by a high value food reward.

    My cat Didga holds the current Guinness World Record for most tricks by a cat in one minute, We couldn't of achieved this without the clicker.

      Genuinely. When my mother was still living after her major stroke, I showed her your videos of Didga on the skateboard, in the “Happy” video, Dreams, etc. Your cat brought her SO MUCH JOY. She couldn’t talk but she could laugh! Thank you for spreading critter-love, Catmantoo!

      I am watching from Michigan and I have a cat sanctuary on 11 acres in farmland and the only trick I have taught my many cats is to not go through the doorway when I open the door. Any door, whether it's in the house or in their outdoor areas. I just stop by the door, put my finger up and at the same time say "Hep!" firmly followed by sshhht. Hep stops their thinking and sshhht distracts them and seems to relax them and they sit, or stay sitting. Many of them know their name so well, like Kathy and Calvin, I can be anywhere in the house and call Kathy, and she alone comes. I can add "quick" to their name and they will run.

    • @CATMANTOO
      @CATMANTOO  Před 5 lety +2

      @@Minuet.of.Forest What's cool is you need very little time, 30 seconds to a minute is all you need, then as the days and sometimes weeks go by, the behaviour takes shape. This one is very easy, sometimes people skip "charging" the clicker and go right to a specific trick to also teach what the clicker represents

    • @CATMANTOO
      @CATMANTOO  Před 5 lety +4

      @@kimdawcatgirl That's still very good and practical, as every cat owner needs their cat to stay put when the door is opened. For doorway manners, I use a clicker (and food) as the primary reinforcement, that way the cat learns faster and the behavior is more reliable once taught, 👏👏👏

      My youngest cat , Hannibal, is doing well at mealtime, when I say ' what must you do ' and hold up my pointing finger , he will sit down and wait . This is so good , as the old one, Louie, who is 16 this year was getting fed up with him stealing!!!!! ( I must be getting through, at last ) 👍🏼👍🏼

    My cat is completely non-food motivated. He doesn't care about treats, wet foods, or catnip. It makes it very difficult for me to find something he sees as a reward. He is 3 now. Any advice on things to use? I've tried canned tuna and he shows slightly more interest, but still not much and I'm not sure its safe to feed him too much of that anyway.

    So what do you do when your can is totally not food orientated. Our cat eats his kibble but is not interested in anything else we offer him. We have tried soft food, raw food, treats.. all he does is sniff them and try to bury them.. 🤦‍♂️

    • @CATMANTOO
      @CATMANTOO  Před 5 lety

      Sometimes My cats will try to bury food they don't like. It's best to have feeding times 2-3 times if your cat in under a year (3-4x under 16 weeks), and 2x if over. snacks in between if they want. That way they are a bit more hungry to help keep their attention, even if for a short time.I go over in more detail on my patreon page but Introducing new food is done gradually, a little placed in a bowl next to kibble (or side by side in same bowl) then maybe after a few meals they may start to pick at it, then more and more with each meal. you may have to try a few different types before you find the right one. dry kibble though is not good for cats, so you do need to find a healthy wet food for them or at the very least add water to their dry kibble (I hope is holistic dry food?). Let us know how it goes

    • @Charl_Malherbe
      @Charl_Malherbe Před 5 lety +1

      @@CATMANTOO Thank you for the reply. Our boy is only 5 months now. We have tried water on his kibble (he eats Hills, best we have available in SA) but he refuses to eat it when we do that. His sister will eat anything she sees so not sure why he is so fussy.. Hopefully he will start learning to eat other things from her, he always goes to look at her bowl when she is done 😜
