The way the wood grain just POPS...WOWZA!!! And don't get me started on that cute tiny finial! Most excellent piece sir!
As one who has turned elm before, I did Not expect something so beautiful out of a frequently diseased tree that smells like wet dog.
You've changed my perspective.
Thank you so much for your comment I’m very happy that you appreciate my work on this piece 😉👍
@@bawbreizhartwood "Appreciate" is putting it lightly! 😄
I have always seen Elm as mulch, and my prejudice died hard when I was forced to acknowledge that my whole reasoning for that ends when the piece is sealed. A truly gorgeous piece, and an eye-opener for me personally.
I may have to revisit Sycamore as well...how many woods have I unfairly condemned?
What a precious little box.
Irene❤️
thank you very much I’m very happy that you appreciate my work
I was so excited when I saw the addition of the darker wood rings and finial . That made it just perfect. I love the small box!

Thank you so much for your comment I’m very happy that you appreciate this piece ❤️
Very nice, not the enormous amount of ‘mise en place’ that you usually have to do, but a stunning result, from a really nice piece of wood!
A lovely box. This is the first time I have seen elm turned. For some reason, I was surprised at how beautiful the wood is
What a sweet little box. 😍 Just a thought... for another project, you could make the finial on the inside of the box to serve as a ring holder.
Lynn
Very good idea indeed😉👍thank you for your suggestion, I am happy that you appreciate this little box❤️🌸
That's absolutely beautiful! I loved it!
Merry Christmas and an amazing 2024!
Hi Morgan the grain in this piece of Elm wood is magnificent it really stands out when you put the finish on it. The Elm container youve turned is amazing you truely are a masterwoodturner and mastercrafter. I love your videos. The container is magnificent and unique well made Morgan. Amanda xx
Thank you very much Amanda🧡🌸
I also really like this piece of elm which has a pretty grain, I am very happy that you like it too
The perfect use for some beautiful wood grains. The detail work makes your piece truly precious.
Thanks! Merry Christmas.
Lynn
Thank you very much for your generosity and your support ❤️❤️ I wish you a Merry Christmas🌸
Absolutely love this bowl/ box. The dark ring on edge and on lid are sublime. And even though I normally don't care for them, on this one as soon as you started the lid I was thinking. It's going to need a finial. 🎉❤ And you did it! Not a big ugly one. It's just right.
Man I love watching your work
Scott
Thank you so much for your comment I’m very happy that you appreciate my work 👍😉
What a lovely designed lidded box, Morgan! One of the most pleasing I have seen. Thanks!
Such a perfect little container. You intuitively know who to shape the wood so beautifully. There's something so very sensuous about the natural wood and how it shines. And I really enjoyed watching you sharpen the tools. I have never seen that before so that was something so very interesting to watch. Thank you for another great video!
Possum
Indeed, to work on elm properly you need to have very sharp gouges.
I am very happy that you appreciate this piece 😉👍👍
Very pretty! I think I have been inspired to try turning a side-grain box. 😲
Maybe. I should probably get better at making boxes first. 🤔🤔🤣
Silvia ❤️❤️thank you very much I’m very happy that you appreciate my work
Stunning, the grain of the Elm that you coaxed out of the cube is fantastic how it catches and reflects the light. The darker accents just add to the piece and makes it pop. I am blown away with this piece of art. Thank you for sharing, it is appreciated. Morgan, have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and regards to you and your family 🎄❤️🎄
Hello The Pagan
Thank you very much, I'm very happy that you like this piece 😉
I wish you a merry christmas😉🌸
Take care of yourself
Another fabulous piece!❤❤ I think that the wood almost looks iridescent in some places. The finish is just wonderful! I hope you have a wonderful, holiday season, filled with blessings!😊❤
Racheal
Yes, elm wood offers very pretty reflections😉
I wish you a merry christmas🌸
take care of yourself
Yeah! A lidded, beautiful piece. The grain on the elm is gorgeous. It obviously came from an area that has a consistent rain to sun ratio. At 7:45 you were showing the bottom of the piece that had what looked like wavy lines in the grain. Was this normal or a result of the work you had just finished. Such a simple and elegant result for the work you put in, thank you!
Enaid
Thank you 😉 in fact I show the natural beauty of elm wood grain 👍on the other hand to get this revelation it takes a lot of finishing work
Beautiful egg cup for an emu egg breakfast! 😆 (or ostrich egg if not in Australia).🦤🦤🦤🐣
HI BAW so so simple but what a beauty. weldone. I can see the love in how u made it.
Morgan, I’ve turned a few pieces of elm. It makes beautiful turnings… the only real problem that I found was turning it too green. It splits and splinters raise up like a fuzz ball.
Was this piece dry? Or do you have a secret to turn it while green?
The wood I used was dry but it takes a lot of work to get a nice finish on elm😉
Do you have a plan for every creation………..do you ever improvise as you build?
Suzi
Yes, in general I plan my projects because I want to optimize my work, but it often happens that I have to improvise because nature often has surprises in store for us😉
Such a cute little acorn. Actually, it's a reverse acorn, but still cute. The grain of that timber is really pretty.
Elm, ah yes, what a beautiful wood. And of course taken to a high level by the master craftsman.
Big Thanks John😊
