    The great part about that video is how perfectly timed each of your releases are. You know exactly what you are looking for before you give, which makes the horse try for you even more. That is what people need to learn from these videos..

    I like the point you made about holding the horn on a young orsecso if they do something unexpected you won’t jab them in the mouth I really like how quick your timing is when releasing the pressure as soon as he rocks back you have great timing and that is something some people never get

    I feel you, Warwick. The little laugh you did when you realized all the former effort paid off is such a great feeling and definitely worth the work! I am not even mad :D

    It's still good to hear you verbalize all your little steps even in that moment. It's a great reminder of how broken in a horse is, even green broke, there's been a lot of effort into it. Thanks for all these videos, my young horse is off at the trainers, but at least I can appreciate what they are up to while they are away.

    Beside the tabby cat.. LOL... This was very good information that people just bypass when working with a young horse. Loved the demonstration of how to ask a horse to break at the poll and then know when to release, and the most important part was to time this when he lifts his neck. Thank You!

    Humans are funny. We don't hold up a new born and say, "So tell me how to make she/he walk today." Everything we teach takes time, patience, great observation, ability to adjust, and a willingness to step back before moving forward. Hard to teach.

    I try to explain this to people! You can't teach a quick trick to an animal without a good foundation for it and you cant explain that to people who just want to learn the quick trick.
    Anyone who wants to learn will figure that out, I'm stuck with a lot of people that have no time to learn and so they never learn.

      desert_dires...Agreed, one thing that I have been saying for over 20 years is; You cannot TEACH anyone anything at all, You can only show & help them. They have to learn it themselves. Same/similar can be applied to educating your horse.

    Unfortunately, there are two types of people, the ones that want to fix everything right now and the ones that want to take time and do things well and lasting, everyone has to decide which path to chose :) , Your teachings are awesome and thank you for everything!!!

    I had so many interesting takes on my duties as a substitute teacher in a big school district-mean and nasty letters written against me for my love of people children learning life.I could have written rebuttals -but I never ever did-I didn't give their strange jealousy and negativity any power=ignored it all and kept on moving forward--I would not defend my talents goodness and hard earned genius ever.Love your stuff Debra

    Sometimes I feel like I live in the wrong part of the world! Access to a good mentor is a bit limited for me.
    Ah at least the internet does have some benefits. I do appreciate all the food for thought. There is a lot to be said for the long distance learning available. However I still would like to have in-person guidance for the human element.
    It's pretty amazing how much my horse and I can do if we sort me out.
    And how fast you get there if you don't rush and you do your homework ^^ getting on my boy without working his transitions breaks ect from the ground could have been a scarry time. He came with 2 speeds wander and flat out.

    I apologize if this is a dumb question. I'm learning SO MUCH watching your videos; thank you!!
    At one point (6:43), he took about 4 small steps backward but you didn't release until he brought his head up. If your goal was backing, why did you wait for the head raise instead? Thank you for helping me understand the timing.

    • @sarahposey7166
      @sarahposey7166 Před 3 lety +3

      Because he did not want the horse to find release when he was overbridled (behind the bit) not always an easy bad habit to undo with a horse that is soft.
      He waited until the horse searched for the rekease and gave it to him in a better position.
      Backing is the easy part.

    • @caringheartsforhorsesoutre8516
      @caringheartsforhorsesoutre8516 Před 7 lety +1

      He was trying to yawn because of the flexion. It was helping to release tension he had. I love warwick, but I dont think he could see what the horse was trying to do. actually the horse doesnt have a choice once the nervous system starts to relax and release.

  • @14Blackspirit

    So ... I should just spend time with the horse and teach him step by step. Got it! Why do people rush all the time with the horse. They get frustrated when the trick they wanna teach the horse takes a month? You have a horse for around 20-30 years so why the hurry?! I can understand when you want to ride a horse but ... just take your time and enjoy it.
