    Your videos on your 88 Mazda have inspired me and my son to modify his 90 Mazda in the same way. Also think that your videos make a great drinking game. Take a shot every time you say "basically". Most would be drunk with just one video. Seriously I love the videos on how you modify your Mazda.

    I bought a cheap chrome header for my 1990 B2200. It interferes with the AC compressor enough I will have to bend it a little and maybe run a shorter belt on AC to keep it further away when tightened.

    • @FlakeGarage
      @FlakeGarage  Před 6 měsíci

      yeah i've heard of issues with hitting the AC or the transmission housing. Just gotta make it work around it since there aren't many options for header

    I have a 1991 Mazda B2200 fuel injected engine. The odometer is sitting at 155,000 miles. The alternator went out so I replaced with a re-manufactured one. I bought the truck for $750. I suspected the alternator was going out when I bought it. Well what I didn't expect was I had 1 or two failing fuel injectors. Took me way longer than I had hoped to diagnose the issue (I am still learning) While I had the throttle body off I went ahead and replaced the two hoses to the throttle body. Nearly everything on this truck is stock. Rusty bolts galore. WD40 is a close friend of mine. Due to the engine only firing on like 2 cylinders it was damn near inoperable. It was back firing like a canon. I couldn't drive it up a hill. Now the ECU is struggling to relearn what air to fuel ratio it should be doing and the engine sounds like a jet engine when I rev it up. This was the first time I have ever replaced fuel injectors and man were they buried. I had to take off the air hose, the resonance chamber, the accelerator bracket, the throttle body, a couple mounting brackets and disconnect a bunch of electronic connectors. It has a ton more power than the last time I drove it, it is like a totally different truck. The one thing that has stood out to me is the lack of supporting documentation or videos regarding these b2200 trucks 1987-1993. Lucky I bought the shop manual for this truck it helped a lot.

    • @FlakeGarage
      @FlakeGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      There’s not much specially on the fuel injected version. Some of the forums that had tons of information disappeared so a lot has been lost. Right now Facebook, some sites and CZcams is your best bet for info. Glad you are working on your truck and getting it back in shape

    • @plantmanstudios
      @plantmanstudios Před 2 lety

      @@FlakeGarage I hear ya. There is no way I would work on this older truck without the shop manual. And to be fair it did give me the info I needed to do the job but it wasn't as descriptive as I would have liked. I made a video on how to diagnose and replace the alternator on my channel to try and help other b2200 owners out. I am actually looking at replacing the exhaust system as a whole. The truck is stinky. I have to get out there and inspect for cracks and leaks later. It was leaking at the exhaust manifold I replaced the metal gasket and tightened the bolts hard but still leaked so I used some high temperature auto paste to just seal the seam. I am suspicious of the headers leaking when I tried to remove the heat shield I snapped a bolt head off even though I sprayed liberally with WD40. Now I have to buy a bolt extractor set to get the sucker out of the hole. It is ok I want that set anyway. Mine is a work truck with a lumber rack/ladder rack on it. You might be wondering why I am writing a lot, it is because I want to contribute to your comment section knowledge base. So that if someone comes along and wants to buy or buys one of these trucks they know things I wish I would have known before I bought the truck. Like the little nugget of wisdom about all the rusty bolts a person will encounter. Eventually I am going to buy new bolts and nuts for the truck to replace the stock because the more you loosen fasteners they more wear they take on and the easier they can be to strip or round out.

    Question
    I have a weber carburetor on the way to install. But might not have enough to change the header. Can I plug those holes that connected to the old air filter??
    Or will I have issuse

      Definitely try to plug them and close them off. I seen people clip them and bend them together and someone else put lug nuts I think where it bolted to the header

    Is the aftermarket header that you use plug and play? No issues with bell housing and NO hammering like others.

    • @FlakeGarage
      @FlakeGarage  Před 5 měsíci +1

      it was plug and play for me but I've heard of other people having issues with it so it'll all depend on your truck

  • @JordanPeverelli
    @JordanPeverelli Před 3 lety +1

    You said you didn't notice much of a difference with the header on the truck?
    Man that's too bad you don't have a custom exhaust on that thing then. On my 92' B2200 EFI I had the stock manifold and it was straight piped with 2.25" pipe to a magnaflow #11225, was like that for a long time, sounded pretty awesome. When I put the pacesetter on though, whew, it really woke up, made acceleration really "growl"
    I gotta get a good sound clip of it one day, it's really deep and grumbly, I've had lots of people ask if I had a V8 in it lol, when it hits about 4K then it opens up and sounds like a 4 cylinder, definitely not ricey though.
    Anyways, great videos man! Love to see anything about these trucks, love mine to death, couldn't ask for a better vehicle.

    • @FlakeGarage
      @FlakeGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      You can hear a slight grumble for sure but with the rest of the exhaust being factory it definitely doesn’t open up the sound like it should. Your setup will definitely give you better sound 👍🏼

      You are a year too late. Everything has disappeared due to EPA cracking down on it so only thing you can do is look on local groups and hope someone selling their used one or jump on a new one as soon as you see it unfortunately

  • @christopherwallaceorr6977

    Like the video and how you describe everything in huge detail. Most channels just skip over all the important details. I have a question for you, if I'm doing this job of installing an aftermarket header on my 93' b2200, but keep the stock carb and just cap off all the strange vacuum hoses, does it cause huge issues with performance, or is it possible to still tune the carb enough for it to be drivable? Considering a weber carb basically makes all of it obsolete anyways. Just don't have money for a new carb right now, but need a new exhaust installed. Any advice would be appreciated

    • @FlakeGarage
      @FlakeGarage  Před 2 lety

      Thank you. That is a good question, I'm not sure how much the factory carburetor relies on the gases from the exhaust but the best way you might be able to avoid the truck running rough will be to make sure you close that vacuum leak as best as possible. I would try disconnecting the tubes right now before you remove anything and try to run the truck and see how it reacts. That'll be a good idea of how it'll do when you swap the header
