When she became financially successful ,she found out that the blues singer Bessie Smith didn't have a head stone so she bought one for her.
respect. She always praised the older blues singers and gave them credit.
A sweet and classy act, God bless Janis, I'm sure she is in a better place.
I have never found her ugly. She has a beautiful light like an angel: just beautiful joy in her face. And I can’t get enough of her music ❤️❤️😉🙏🙏
I always thought she was pretty too.
Yes I think she was pretty.
she had the greatest smile,, lit up her face !
LOL
She was older than me, but we had the same high school English teacher and I attended school with her brother. The day after Janis died, in class, our teacher shared several pieces of art that Janis had done. She was a talented visual artist. Our teacher said she created this character, Pearl, and then "became" that character. She spoke highly of Janis. Once in a lifetime talent.
You are so blessed to have the memories you have of Janice Joplin! I think Janice had a natural beauty about her. She never wore makeup! RIP Janice!🙏⚘🙏⚘🙏⚘🙏⚘🙏⚘🙏⚘
I knew a Richard Wood do you know of him..born in December 26 1943...
Class of 63 I belive my older half sister same age as he was ...he's past
what was her brother like?
@@beaboutit323 He is a very talented musician and visual artist. A good guy.
She was my neighbor. She was a gentle spirit with a troubled soul.💐😔
Where were you her neighbor at?
the troubled soul part is what is worrisome. i think she had darker experiences than bullying.
@@jv-ep2tc Yes, participating in Satanic Rituals is never a good idea. Even if it's all a bunch of BS, you're still bringing negativity into your life.
It is the original pattern of opium addicts ( troubled ) . She would also drink "Southern Comfort" from the bottle. No wonder her liver was shot. She was better off dying from that fix as dying from liver failure is painful, miserable and slow. She did appear a little masculine, in her aggressive performances ; she was showing us her anger and her sadness. I thought her voice was scratchy and vulgar, but there were times when it was just what we wanted to hear. She was unique.
opiates hijack the brain, it's a curse horrible, been there but been clean for years now, i'm truly fortunate.
One of the Saddest Hollywood Stories ever, such a amazing artist, died way too young, still very sad! 😢😢😢🙏🏼
Janis Joplin your so beautiful who cares what people think or say ...if I could go back in time I would give her the biggest hug in the world !!!!! Truly beautiful soul til the end 😭😭😭😭
She was talented and witty. Smart too.
@@linanicolia1363 For years, I've heard about her classmates calling her ugly and everything else. She did not have an ugly face. I don't know how she dressed when she was in school, but, really how bad could it have been, and how small and empty were the lives of all the others that they had to look to making her miserable just so they can get a few laughs. Awful.
I think she was very pretty
So tragic when people are so cruel. Rest in peace Janis Joplin.
as a girl who was not dated in a way I can understand her pain but would never get into the drugs ect so yes people are cruel
John Cooke (Joplin's road manager) went to Joplin's motel room after producer Paul Rothchild phoned and said Joplin had not arrived for her recording session that day. Cooke said that upon entering Janis's motel room, "I got a strong feeling that nobody was there. Then I came round the corner and saw Janis lying on the floor next to a bed. But that strong feeling that nobody was there, it was absolutely right."
Her version of Summertime is the best. So much feeling in her voice. Thanks for this!
+kris McCarthy you're welcome
Agreed! Fantastic.
I’ve never understood why people feel the need to judge a person based on appearance alone. A person’s soul is what makes them “ugly “ or “beautiful “. She shared her gift and people only focused on her face. R.I.P. lovely lady.
And regardless of whether she was pretty or not, that is no reason to bully her. With that said, I think she had a sweet cuteness to her face. Not ugly at all.
Yeah I know I married a man that has stickler syndrome but I fell in love with him not his looks etc but I loved him
Somebody always wants to feel superior or better than somebody else.... Whether we admit it or not, look at life all around you. We make judgments everyday. People should look at their own faults and their own sin before pointing fingers at others.....and I've been guilty of that as we all are.
She was beautiful in my opinion.
Shame on her class in Texas for treating her so badly. Janis's talent was greatness and I loved her music. So sad peer pressure hurt her so much.If she only knew how much people really loved her talent.Died so young.......
Janis had a soul that was larger than life.
Thanks Jordan.
I think as famous as Janis Joplin became I think she had the last laugh against those bullies. She's remembered where as they are forgotten!
I will never see the ugly part. The only thing ugly was those who bullied her and her drug addiction.
Kevin Eaton
Those "bullies" were weak tit zeros who were never born. They are dead. She will never die.
R.I.P Janis
Kevin Eton. I'll drink to that! NM from Detroit
But she lost her life at such a young age and those bullies are probably still alive with the ability to grow old while she was robbed of the rest of her life.
@@usfanlovesjiwoo1978 She did that to herself though. She made those choices.
I remember so clearly when she died. My final year high school, age 18 yrs. Hendrix had died 2 weeks before. Two bright stars snuffed out by Smack ! So tragic and sad !
I think Hendrix died from pills
Hendrix was murdered...
I graduated in 1969. Was a fan and saw her in concert one time, and BB King was the opening act. I was sitting in my parents kitchen when the news came on about it. Like a quick kick to the gut. I just felt so sorry for her, died too young. From what I've read and some perceptions of mine, she was a kind, smart, vulnerable person who was lonely - rock life style doing your music doesn't leave you much time for finding relationships. Passed one day after my birthday - Oct. 04, 1970. RIP
Born in '59, I grew up listening to Janis. I still listen to her today. Beautiful lady with a beautiful soul. It is sad the way she was bullied and I hope she knew that she got the last laugh! Great video! Thank you for going to the trouble to make it and post it so others can see a little insight to Janis.
Bullying effects you for life, words can be killers! Great Vlog again
Susan Collison totally right
That bullying was a death by a thousand cuts long before the heroin and alcohol, which was just self-medicating to give her short-lived pain relief. The arrested development you mention has a lot to say about being emotionally stunted by the bullying. The bullies just could not stand that she made it and made it great, as their bullying is most surely deep seeded from their own childhood
@@nkley1 childhood cruelty no matter where it comes from effects people deeply
S Showden Don’t I know it
Only if you have a weak mind and spirit...a knife a bullet drugs alcohol can kill you!! Not words!! In this life we have the power to CHOOSE!!!
Thats why i was a loner..keep my distance from potential bullies.
Great vlog Jordan! I stayed in the room for a night a few years back, a bit spooky but as a fan I fulfilled a bucket lister. People had written tributes behind the closet doors and although the room has been updated, the bathroom and kitchenette looked pretty original.
Your bucketlist consisted of sleeping in the same room that someone you're a fan of died??
It’s on mine and my moms bucket list also !!
l.
Janice Joplin had a voice that could give you goose bumbs when you listened to her sing. Great vlog Jordan
Michael Donahue i totally agree
I'll never understand why she went back and subjected herself to those people!!?? Screw them!!!
I think when a person is put down in school and then they become successful, it is human nature to show them that she turned out great. I don't feel she went back to get love, I think she just wanted to show them that they not only didn't break her, but she is the hottest female star in the world. So sad their immature jealousy of her caused her to spiral back down into drugs.
@@usfanlovesjiwoo1978 So true , I am also from a small town it is sad , due to the fact it is home .But when people in your home town do not like you , it is difficult to try and find another place to call home.Home is where the heart is.
She shouldn't have talked about it in the way that she did on the talk show. It's kind of a lesson in don't show your arrogance in trying to show out because the people you're trying to impress may not be impressed.
She was reminding them of what she had become. In fact she was saying "Hey ! screw you all, look at me !!! " I am famous !
@@linanicolia1363 It backfired on her though, because she thought they were all going to be in awe of her and instead they just stayed away.
Another tragic story. I remember reading about her classical singing days. She had a beautiful voice. Singing A Capella. Thank you Jordan, for another great vlog on another favorite singer of mine. I was 11 years old when Janis Joplin died. But I had still heard of her, and was drawn to her music.
So many have this same story. What i most heartbreaking, is knowing how much she was loved. Yet, it didnt over power the hate. Thank you for doing this. I was born march 1970. Yet grew up on her music.
One song she did: Turtle Blues.. it tears my heart out every time I hear it. Check it if you have not before.
DjTechnoid will do
And half moon
Rest In Peace Janis. I wish you knew how much people really did and still do love you!❤️
She was amazing!!!!! Nobody ever has come close!!!!! I always wonder what she could have done with that voice as she got older ~~~~~~
Not fitting in Port Arthur, Texas is a badge of honor actually. If she only knew how awesome she truly was. I hate heroin, and that she felt she needed it. People like Jimmy Johnson should be ashamed of themselves.
Supposedly Janis got a hold of some pure stuff and it was too strong. Life is not long when people take the harder drugs. I wished she had never used drugs. I love her voice. One of the greatest with only two live albums, and one studio album during her lifetime. She help bring recognition to traditional blues artists like Big Mama Thornton by recording her song, "Ball and Chain."
This is a sad truth. I thought she was beautiful, and her personality was so sweet. I wonder if her classmates feel that they are to blame? As for me I’m so very disgusted at ms. Joplins classmates!!!!!!
Absolutely enjoyed this vid Jordan. I've been a lifelong Janis Joplin fan. To date(April 2019), there's no female vocalist. That even comes close to her talent. How sad & tragic her story ended :(
Loved this video Jordan broke my heart to hear how awful she had been treated and they didn't realise they were in presence of a real superstar R.I.P The great Janice Joplin
I’m on a Jordan The Lion binge.. lol! Video 3 tonight.
I love Janis Joplin!
Awesome Janice Joplin done Great song's, Sad that she passed away . Thanks for the touring ☺️. You do a great job.
Another great video. Thanks again Jordan 👌🏻👌🏻
Just watched this for the first time...learned a lot, and because of this thrilling experience, it just makes me like Janis even more...excellent narration, explanation and walk-through.
One of the greatest smiles ever! And her voice, never another like it.
I have always loved her music. Thank you for this Jordan.
Another amazing vlog! You keep so much history alive, thank you beyond words!
It always makes me sad to hear about Janis' last night...did not know about how large her liver was when she passed, though.Makes sense, but I never heard of that, just because she had those drinks made the difference. Something to think about. I was eight years old when she died, as a matter of fact, she died on my birthday, and heard it on the radio. I had just heard of her and then she was gone...Thank you so much for posting this informative and moving vlog.
I named my dog Pearl after Janis. Sadly, she is in her last days and has been having seizures daily. I am so 😢. RIP Janis. My little shelter rescue, Multipoo, Pearl.
please allow yourself a period of grieving over your animal
companion Pearl. When my dog of 13 yrs passed I was terribly distraught for weeks...slept with his cremated ashes
On Dec 2nd he'll have been gone 7 yrs and I still miss him dearly. much peace to u both
Barbara Hineline. Thank you so much.
Aileen Rosenberg that is so kind of you naming your dog after Janice; I pray in Jesus name that your dog is healed from his seizures.
Barbara Hineline I am so sorry to hear about the death of your dog
So sad...not ugly at all..God bless her
It's so horrible that Janice suffered so much in life; bullying needs to stop! Everybody please love one another
So sad that she was bullied like that. What a big strong voice, great blues singer. As many have mentioned below, being bullied causes so much self esteem issues that nothing seems to fix. good blog Jordan. Love the Jah clips, as I myself have 2 beautiful yellow labs.
amc111758 it's so sad.. so young
Janis, one of a kind. Thanks for covering this piece of musical history.
One of our fave songs by Janis is ‘Ball and chain’, incredible voice .. thanks for another wonderful vlog and story.
Lee Anne L great song
I absolutely love watching your vlog!! so glad I found it!
Another great one Jordan. Janis was one of the UNIQUE greats that to date no one can replicate. Very sad ending to an incredible, true artist. They don't make them like her anymore.
your videos are great, thank you for doing these!
+Kay You're welcome
Ah, but her music will always live on ♥️
Nice video, Jordan. In the film of the Monterey Pop Festival, one of the most memorable moments was during Janis Joplin's appearance, Mama Cass Elliot of The Mamas & the Papas can be seen in the audience with an expression on her face of being blown away by Janis' performance. It was the same festival that made Jimi Hendrix famous for lighting his guitar on fire. Ironically, he died just a few weeks before Janis at age 27.
You could see Cass mouth the words : "Oh Wow" with a stunned look.
The version of, "Summertime" that Janis recorded is one of the most incredible songs of all time, I get goosebumps every time I listen to it! Great job, Jordan! ✌️
Janis was such a pretty young lady with the sweetest smile. She was so talented, in both music and art. It actually hurts my heart the way she was treated. It never fails to amaze me how nasty people can be. High school seems to be harsh for anyone any more, but she was treated so badly most of her life. I mean you'd think the classmates that she had would have grown up by the time she went to her reunion. If I would have known her I would have loved and welcomed her as my friend, and given her a big hug every time she needed one. I would have been proud to have known her. Rest well sweet girl. ❤
Jordan and his stories are awesome! I clinge to his every word and his research is incredible! Keep on rockin and be safe!!
Loved this vlog Jordan! Janis Joplin is another of my favorite singers. She definitely died way too young, but what a voice, and I thought she was pretty Lady. Also I have seen The Rose, It was a wonderful movie, that starred Bette Midler, who did a fantastic job as Janis. Anyone who wants to see what Janis Joplins life was like should see this movie.
Her soul was so beautiful! She was so mesmerizing
Never used in my life but have known more than one that did. Any one of them would tell you if you use you can't drink because if you do there is a very high risk of death.
this is an amazing vlog, one of your best!
Matthew Darby thank you
So many sad stories in the entertainment business to
it is sad isn't it
I love how you so thoroughly researched this history. You have such reverence for her. 💐😉 .
I went to my high school reunion recently and I graduated from an arts high school. People were holding petty grudges from years ago and many didn't even say hello. Definitely one of the worst experiences. Weird.
Another good job Jordan, I saw Janis psychedelic painted Porsche at the Rock n Roll hall of fame, supposedly it was parked at the hotel the night she died.
Paul F yeah, I saw it there too.. pretty surreal
I heard her music only after she had past. One and only voices that is so energized! I love her music and I really wished I could have followed her music much earlier. One thing I was really a young child back in the 1970s .
Great vlog Jordan and my heart really goes out to Janis Joplin. She was one of the greats. I read quite a bit on her life and it was heart breaking knowing how much she got bullied. I read that the only one she would let interview her was Dick Cavett and I don't know why. I can only imagine the hurt and rejection she felt. So sad. Thank you for another great vlog. Your the best...
That's true I've only EVER seen on Dick Cavett. She was on there twice.
Awesome tribute to Janice!
Best video you have made so far.
I grew up in the next town, NEDERLAND, TEXAS. And yes, it was like that and probably still is. She was always amazing to me. 💔 RIP
great and thoughtful content as usual, thank you! I'm new to your channel and recently moved to LA, i'm very curious (and pardon me if you've covered this previously), have you done any vlogging about Mike Watt / Minutemen / D. Boon history? I know Mike still plays a lot around here. D's picture in the beginning of this vlog got me thinking! Thanks so much for your thoughtful content and hard work.
Such a sad story of a special and talented woman. Shallow people always ostracize and ridicule people because they are different. She was different and that's why we loved her. Also,to tell you the truth, I never understood everyone calling her ugly. She may not have been movie star beautiful, but I always thought she was sexy and someone that I would have loved to meet.I started listening to her when I was 11 and still love listening and also watching her video performances 45 years later.
Sad story. I like Janis' voice and knew 'The Rose' was loosely based on her life, but didn't realize how sad it was.
Don't know if you are a country/folk Dan, but Lacy J. Dalton has been termed the 'Janis Joplin of country music' because of her voice, which has that whiskey-soaked quality. Definitely worth a listen...
wonder if people(especially teens) really understand what kind of damage they do to one another, and sometimes I wonder if they care
Jordan, you have great talent in telling stories and great presence. Plus. your research is amazing. Keep ot up, Bro
Jamie Martinez thank you very much
After 50 years you're always with us. Sweet Janis R.I.P (4/10/2020)
You did a great job...very detailed!
I think Janice had a lot more to say and should have been allowed to say ... overdose or no overdose ... she spoke big for those of us who where outcasts at that time ... precious sweet spirit ... thank you for going down the Janice road ... you blessed my heart ... Smiles, Stella
Janis was quite the complex and fascinating individual. May she rest in heaven. Jordan your vlogs are so well done and respectful to your subjects. Best Wishes to you.
She was by herself. That is why she died because she always had somebody with her to watch after her in case something liked that happened. It was totally accidental. She had a loving soul. RIP Janus. We love you.
I like these rock and roll vlogs!
JD great
I really enjoy your vlogs you seem to have all the knowledge on your history I live here in Texas and I’ve been toJanice Joplin’s house where she grew up and it still there in Port Arthur
Your the best! Thank you for doing this video!
+Fairieswearboots 92 thank you :)
Appreciate all the work you do to pull these fascinating bits together. You should do a piece on Jani Lane from warrant. Found dead in a hotel comfort Inn, near LA. Troubled guy. Amazing singer/songwriter! I'd love to see the hotel and area! Keep up the great explorations.
Great CZcams VLOG. As I ate breakfast. I saw the video for the 20th or 25th time. Me and Isabella my cat. Loved the VLOG.
Thank you Jordan Lee!
+Raul D´Empaire you're welcome
That was a very interesting vlog, Jordan. It's so sad that she was so alone all of her life, really, and to die alone. Money and fame can't buy happiness. It would have been great to see the room but nevertheless, it was a very good vlog. Thank you.
I have missed her so much since this happened., her singing was powerful.
I think all she needed was somebody to love her, fact that people can be so cruel she's a legend and they are nothing!!! R.I.P. Janis!!!
thanks, this is terrific! i love janis...!
Bless her heart! So tragic how her classmates treated her...they can be the meanest! 🌹
Coming just weeks after the death of Jimi Hendrix was a double hit to my heart and soul in 1970. It just hurt so bad. RIP Pearl.😢⚘
Great tribute.
R.I.P Janis.
Man that's awesome Jordan
Shes was awesome and loved her soulful voice, RIP Janice! You are loved and missed! Bulling is awful!! I'm so against that and theirs a special place for those kinds of people, but shes was the sweetest beautiful soul through in and out!
Thank you!
Jeremy Wolfla you're welcome
Great Vlog!
I didn’t even know you did a video on her. I was just watching a documentary about her on Hulu
I’m a professional musician from several generations of musicians and Janice was my hero! She’s always been my inspiration. Yes I grew up the ugly duckling as well. I could relate. I will never forget her. I have done a few songs on CZcams. I want to do some of her songs. Yes I’m a blues singer. It’s so strange how the 4s and 7s show up here and have always been my numbers.
The 27 club Tragic. Janice Joplin heart en soul boomed outta that voice. Isn't it strange that the talent of the onez that die early because of how impactive they were feels like the lived a full life, theres so much of there music still alive out there.
Good job. Very nice. I will come back again and again.
I love her voice like no other like it very unique, I’ve been her fan since my ears first heard her. I didn’t know her back story, I like her even more now . & to those people that did that to her in high school , if your still alive today need to acknowledge that you were horrible humans and ask for her forgiveness, publicly.
little girl bleu. I love you, Janis!
i think the most gratifying moment in her brief life which our fine host referenced was when she went back for her ten year class reunion to Port Arthur in the summer of the same year she died. Being the celebrity she was and the renowned singer she had become she was able to have those same classmates who once bullied her eating out of her hand. She said it felt great but it didn't make her feel whole either. a one of a kind who did it her way to the end.
Janis ... her only happiness was when she was singing on stage ... the only place she felt excepted. Ones heart breaks for her.
Back in the 1960s /1970s it was drugs, sex and rock & roll ... life in the fast lane ... die young and stay pretty ... and the 27 club did just that.
💖I stayed in this hotel a few yrs back in the room across the hall from Janis *sigh😥 RIP Beautiful Soul! XOXO
One of my friend's from high school said that he rented a house in the mid 90's near Cal State Dominguez Hills from Janis Joplin's girlfriend when he was going to school there.
