possibily the most baffling and hilarious cliffhanger in the history of Doctor Who..
The great intelligence got into the doctors mind and forced him to climb over the edge, CLEARLY. then clara got glitz to put the wee ledge out in part two
At least this explanation is better.
All they would have had to do, is show a ledge below, that he was trying to climb down to get to. They could have easily salvaged the scene without chewing much time at all.
If there was a ledge below, he could let go to drop onto the ledge.
@@fjccommish Not necessarily. If it was a particularly narrow or precarious ledge, climbing down and falling down would be entirely different prospects. It's still on the side of a steep drop.
@@parrot998 If we fall like animals, we DIE LIKE ANIMALS!
The funny thing to watch in Dragonfire is the Doctor slipping and sliding on the ice while everyone else walks casually
Seriously considering this box set for the Happiness Patrol alone; one of the most criminally under-rated stories in nearly 5 decades of Doctor Who!
as the director says: "a complete cock-up"...
...and they choose THAT for DVD release?!!
its till one of my favourite all time cliffhangers
The Dragon Fire Cliff hanger is probably my favourite part of classic doctor who
Well, if Clara wasn't there to get the Doctor's attention, then the Doctor might have just let go of his umbrella thanks to the Great Intelligence's hypnosis.
New Who = crap.
@@fjccommish new who is better written and crafted than old who, you’re literally commenting on one of the worst doctor who scenes period and it’s from classic
I love it when people admit they screwed up. No trying to pass the buck just "we goofed". End of story. Not sure about Sophie's headwear though....
I was 11 when this was first shown and I can still remember the frustration of thinking that the writers were at this point just making the story up as it went along.
I have always loved the version of the theme they use on these ads. I always wanted to get a copy to listen to, but I’m guessing it was solely for the DVDs. Anyone know who composed this version?
Did you ever find out I also like this version
@@sh-ig9fm sadly, I never have found out.
It's Slyvester Mccoy so that woul make perfect sense
I've been waiting TWENTY years for an answer to that one ! :¬D
Seeing the cast and crew apologise and complain about the cliffhanger is so much more entertaining than watching the actual serial.
The rest of the serial is great
I always used to describe this scene as Doctor Who's only true "cliff-hanger". What else could I say about it (without going in to a long over-explained fan-boy reasoning for it and JN-T's editing decision,etc...)???
I'm glad it wasn't just me. I was so confused when I saw this.
i really want to get that box set. :)
I like the head thing. :)
Having just bought and watched this, I really enjoyed it. Dragonfire may never be considered a classic Who adventure but it has some stand out moments.
I think saying the whole story is bad isn't fair.
How is it not considered a classic?
_Obviously_ the Doctor was trying the speedrun strat, you can shave almost four minutes off a run if you do it right!
now we know that Clara saved him!
They just didnt care. Its that simple.
Re. Sophie hat, it was to cover a bad hair day.:)
Darren79 yeah. I was just about to post "Sophie, what I'm the name of sanity have you got on your head?"
If we havve no opposable thumbs, like animals, we fall like animals, and we DIE LIKE ANIMALS!
Why did the Doctor hang over the cliff? Well it certainly wasn't to get to the other side... :)
now the writers can claim that the great intelegence took over the Doctor ane made him dangle from the cliff...
I'm willing to speculate that either that was another occasion where the Doctor was left hanging, or Clara managed to just stop a version of the Great Intelligence who was trying to ensure the Doctor's death in that instant.
I think the only free good Sylvester McCoy episodes of Doctor Who are The Silver Nemesis, Greatest Show In The Galaxy and Battlefield.
It's called "Silver Nemesis", not "The Silver Nemesis". I like Battlefield as well, Silver Nemesis is great, The Curse of Fenric is probably the best, if only for Nicholas Parsons.
What a Stupid Idea.
This was my introduction to Doctor Who. I was channel surfing and came in near the end of the episode. I was thoroughly confused but interested until this scene. I decided Doctor Who was horrible and did not watch it until the reboot.
Well whatever the reason at least Clara saved him ;)
Sabalom saved 7 - Clara is just shown looking at him dangling from behind a window.
'Dragonfire' is possibly the worst story from the Sylvester McCoy era. Edward Peel as Kane is the only one who just about makes the story worth watching. Embarrasing performances throughout in this story. Ian Briggs story is actually probably rather good, but the direction is all over the place and is a mess.
Change only one thing? How about the whole story. One to avoid until the bargin bin beckons. I'd reckon about a months time. Not a good time in the show.
I would rather watch any 7th Doctor story than any modern Who story, except for the 10th's story that came from the 7th's novel "Human Nature."
