Try imagining Rodney Dangerfield telling the same joke: "So dis guy he asks my fadda he says, 'Why you got so little faith in your son?' And my dad says, "I dunno, I guess from all duh time we spend togetha!" (Rimshot.) Still works great, but it's missing the subtle hook shot of Jonathan Katz.
Really love those shots of Ben's face suddenly changing from goofy grin to a scowl like at 14:03, or in the ep where Steven Wright throws a penny at him and claims it 'fell from the ceiling or something'. Not only that, the shot lingers a second before cutting to next scene, like Ben's silently thinking. It's a type of visual joke that was of course entirely absent when they recorded the (largely retro-scripted) dialogue. My point being that the animators deserve no small credit for how funny the show is as a whole.

Rita Rudner is absolutely the best at being funny by not being funny... I didn't laugh at her 25 years ago, and I'm still un-amused by her now... But, I like her for being good at being dull, if that makes sense.
i remember all of Barry Sobel's lines had no idea what his name was and i still have no idea who he is but his episode this one was the most memorable.
I am a Californian, and Barry is so right about the flakiness of the people here. It bothers me to. I wasn't raised that way. The people he is describing, more often than not, there is more than just a "telephone and a car involved." Usually also drugs. Namely some certain "happy plant", and/or prescription meds.
I wish I could have that transition music playing every time I finish a conversation with someone.
