These days, an audience would start applauding as soon as he hit the chorus, because they're so amazed to hear a singer who can actually sustain a power note without turning it into a 37-note run. But that vocal quality was there with so many singers from the 1950s and '60s. Perhaps one day you'll check out more from the giants of that era - Sinatra, obviously, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, and many more.

None of them had the operatic power of Tom Jones. For me, the greatest male popular singer ever. Even Elvis looked up to him. Tom is 80 now, and still can sing. Alot of his fans will swear he sounds exactly the same as his prime, but I think they're listening with their hearts and not their ears. He's still fantastic, but not quite the same.

That's right, he made it look so easy but it wasn't easy at all!! What an incredible voice with such a control. A God given natural talent, a voice with such a range and power, this is my favorite song by Tom Jones; here is all about singing the song and putting all his emotions in it. Tom Jones owns the song, I've heard it perform by the guy who wrote it, also a musician, and by others - This is Tom Jones at his best!!

I saw Tom Jones when he was already in his 70's, and his voice was still amazing. I was in my 20's and was likely one of the youngest in the audience. It was just like the stories you may have heard -- women would run down the center aisle of the auditorium and throw their bras and panties on stage. One woman brought a giant bouquet of flowers for him. Amazing!

He tells a story about performing in the US at the beginning of his career, and Frank Sinatra caught him afterward. Sinatra told him he had a good enough voice, but needed to learn to tone it down and use his microphone to get the volume, because he'd eventually blow out his voice. Jones obviously ignored his advice! LOL! And he never lost his voice, either.
