    Don't know if you've ever heard this already or not, but as your scobies multiply, you can throw them into your plant pots and gardens to improve the condition of the soil!! Look it up... Try it!.... And just wondering, how much kombucha you drink a day? I kept it to one a day, but don't know if I SHOULD be drinking more? Anyways, I have moved in the past year, and had stopped making my own kombucha; BUT, I saved all my jars and bottles, and I am totally inspired to start again!! TFS! ~tina

      Thanks for the info! I knew you could throw extras in the compost, I'll do some more research on adding them to potted plants. I try to drink one every day but sometimes I skip a day if I decide to go with mineral water instead. Hope you start brewing again! Definitely helps my digestion! Have a great day 😊

    Kombucha Monday!! We've been doing a lot of experimenting of our own. I think the pineapple peach has been one of our favorites so far.
    Love the shirt. 😁

    Add the flavoring first then pour the kombucha over top. It will mix well that way.

    Recommendations for where to get scoby? You’re inspiring me to jump in and try making kombucha!

    • @HomesteadDreaming

      I got mine this time from my farmer market last year but I have gotten one from Amazon before a few years ago and it came with starter tea ready to go. I've also made my own using store bought kombucha but it's been years and I can't remember how well that went.

  • @GoodTimeHollerHomestead

    Ive only ever tried store bought kombucha and I didn't care for it but from watching your videos maybe ill attempting making some because homemade seems to always be better! :)

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 5 lety

      I really like the taste of homemade better. You can adjust the times for a less or more tart end flavor. You can add more juice to the second ferment to make it taste less tart as well.

    Bounced over from Roots and Refuge! Can’t wait to see how the kombucha flavors turn out! I’d like to make some in the future. How many jars would you suggest for a small start up? Are round bottles better than square?

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 5 lety +2

      Thanks for being here! I started with one 1-gallon glass jar and 6 swing top bottles. I make 1 gallon batches at a time and usually just bottle 5 out of 6 bottles. I tried to reuse store bought kombucha bottles and mason jars and it was fine but couldn't get a really good carbonation on the 2nd ferment until I got the swing top bottles and got a really air tight seal. I should have all the supplies linked in the description. They're all through amazon. You can also get a scoby from amazon with starter tea but the ones I currently have are from my farmers market and ones I've grown from that one.

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 5 lety +2

      I have instructions in the description. I didn't use exact measurements. I tried the apple raspberry one last night and it's so good! I even got my husband to try it and say it was good and he has refused to try kombucha until now and I've been making it for like 3 years haha

  • @serenityfarmstead313
    @serenityfarmstead313 Před 4 lety

    I feel like this seems easy watching you do it but it seems hard when I think about trying it. Was your apple and punch juice just juice from the store or a homemade juice?

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 4 lety +1

      Haha I definitely feel that way a lot, too! It actually is a pretty easy process, especially once you've tried it once or twice. I used store bought juice but you could very easily use homemade juice if you have a juicer or blender. I've also used whole fruits in certain ones.

    I would like to share my experiment with flavoring your kombucha for a 2nd fermentation, if you want to try it... I always make a batch of 3 litres, when the kombucha is ready I use any favor of Clight powder juice and bottle up using a cocacola plastic bottle and it tastes great and becomes really fizzy!!! I love it!

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you! I'll have to look into Clight powder. I've never heard of it before. I'll see if I can give it a try :)

    Hey, I am a new sub from Root's and Refuge's Live last night.....SO GLAD I subscribed to ur channel!!! I have been trying to perfect my second fermentation...love all these new ideas! I used to only use maple syrup....then I have been trying a few juices....I need to do fresh fruit, and I have matcha I can try....have u ever tried coconut water? Someone had told me about trying that, I just never know what may b off limits....well thanks and I am going to check out ur channel!

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 5 lety

      Thanks so much for being here! I haven't tried coconut water but that sounds like it would be a good idea. The key to a good second ferment is adding enough sugar in an air tight environment for the yeasts to produce carbonation. So as long as it's sweetened (naturally or otherwise, whichever your preference is) and you have an air tight container then you should get a good 2nd ferment. I had a blueberry one carbonate so well it exploded in my kitchen and I still have a stain on my ceiling from it 😅

      @@HomesteadDreaming I always hear people talk about exploding....so the lid just pops off all on it's own? Or is it when u open it it exploded? I don't use bottles like that I am reusing purchased bottles of kombucha and they screw on.....I can get good fizz but only a couple times it actually sprayed out when I opened it....I always fear when they say explode that the plastic tops of the screw bottles I use will explode off on their own, but I just can't see that really happening, do u?

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 5 lety

      I opened the bottle and it exploded. It was like shaking up a soda and opening the lid. Shot right up haha! But it wasn't shaken, it had just been sitting on the counter.

  • @LaReina203
    @LaReina203 Před 4 lety

    How long can you keep it on the shelf, say, if you weren’t ready to refrigerate all bottles?

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 4 lety +2

      Well it'll continue to ferment and build carbonation. If you leave them too for too long they could potentially explode from the carbon dioxide build up but if you burp them (basically just open every couple days to release the gasses) then you can leave them out a little longer. I usually leave mine out between 3 and 5 days then refrigerate

    I have never tried Kambucha but I see that everyone does it, what does it taste like?

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 5 lety +1

      It's fermented so it's slightly tart. Almost like tea and lemonade mixed together in tartness and it's carbonated

    are these fizzy kombuchas, with these flavors ???

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 4 lety

      Yep! As long as you keep them at room temperature with an air tight seal, it will become fizzy in about 3 to 5 days time

  • @reviewersamples4242
    @reviewersamples4242 Před 4 lety

    do you have to burp them each day??

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  Před 4 lety +1

      I don't burp mine, no. I just wait about 3 days and see if it's carbonated enough for my tastes and if it is, I stick them all in the fridge and if not I leave it out a few more days
