    Poor old Bill Geldard, there on bass trombone. He's only got two notes, D and E. He played them perfectly, as one would expect.

      And what a Legend he is, I played along side him many years ago when he brought his big band / Bass Trombone features for me to play, what a great time we had, bass parts were incredible to play, he still plays that Holton TR181. I must dig those parts out sometime and share.

      Not often I get called that, so thanks. I've had Absolute Pitch since early childhood and it's still there at age 81. Doesn't necessarily make you a great muso because at best I'm a competent amateur.

    Perez Prado's arrangement with his rythm & beat orchestra was electriflying & demanded the dancers to move to the dance floor & perform the Cuban Salsa. This is one of the best Cuban music recorded. Golden words by Peter E. Farrar.

    Totally brilliant. Watch and listen to Don Lusher on Frank Sinatra at the Royal Festival Hall . Sinatra sings ''I've got you under my skin'' and Don does his trombone sole. It is EXACTLY like the original recording. Nobody but NOBODY could play the trombone like Don Lusher. R I P mate. A true musical genius.

    Don lusher's stunning arrangement of the fabulous rythm & beat "Peanut Vendor", raised this music to supreme levels. Salsa dancers will dominate the dance floor in response to this rythm & beat fabulous music. Golden words by Peter E. Farrar.

    Hard to believe these days, but this was the introduction to the TV game show "Three-Two-One" , hosted by Ted Rogers. Current game shows never feature quality guests of this calibre.

    When was this recorded..? I am most grateful to a keen Big Band fan who took me to see Don once upon a time in Whitley Bay. I think as a stupid teenager I passed up the opportunity to meet the band after the gig. Damn my dumbness.

      It's done in the throat, vocalising a note a little different from the note you're playing so getting a "beats" effect. Very tricky - you really have to go for it.

    • @robturner5146
      @robturner5146 Před 4 lety

      Try rolling a letter R at the back of your throat as you play. My trombone teacher used to call it 'flutter tongue'.

    Fantastic band obviously, but this Kenton arrangement never did the original tune justice. Even when played by them. It sounds great and these were some of the best players ever, but this chart just doesn't have the right Latin feel. It never did. Too heavy and bombastic. That was Kenton's style though I suppose. Didn't really carry too well into the lato idiom.
