I always feel that the Cubase channel Strip is so Underrated.
they should do that, who are don't recognize it, they are beautiful. because of third party companies have to build up in the vst protocols. its like symbiosis grown up deal;) but shure, you dont need too much 3rd party plugins, if you use correctly to cubase own plugins
Absolutely agree! I wish they'd put out an updated CC121 that totally integrates with the channel strip and components...
Honestly it's the part of Cubase that I use the most. It is excellent for preserving some PC processing power.

I just absolutely love the native plugins available in cubases channel strip. I just completely believe that using these adds ultra stability to the platform. Nothing is more stable than native plugs and they are so good!

This is totally timely Dom! As my computer is getting older I have been using more of the Cubase Plugins to save on CPU, especially in the tracking phase. I should have been using the channel strip more the whole time, it really is underrated. Great video man!

Regarding 5:27 I would say it would be worth mentioning that, although the PRE section (pre gain+polarity+filters) lays together with the eq, it acts always before everything in the chain, independently if you put your channel strip before or after inserts. PRE section is always before everything. I had before this confusion and manual is not clear hear. Master Chris helped me to understand this a couple of years ago.

Steinberg made a wise choice making this so comprehensive. Many mixers have no need to go searching for ‘extensions’ while in a DAW. The fact any installation of the same version will have all these capabilities built in is a wonderful feature for those who travel.
The side-chain capability of the gate makes for a great noise reduction feature for guitars, placed last but triggered by the unamplified guitar. The range chosen for the Hold control of the ‘standard’ compressor is just begging for an update. My Hold values are typically 50-200ms, all of which are at the first 2% of the knob rotation. I’m sure that’s just an error.
The sound of the tube compressor is pure gold.

A really down-to-earth explanation for each segment. I use the strip before plug-ins because it helps you shape each track sound on the fly and centralizes the control in a convenient location. Thanks for your time and presentation, Dom.

This is a fantastic video! I have been using the Channel Strip utilities for years, but you just changed my whole methodologies going forward.
I now better know how to PROPERLY use these utilities for a better sound. Thank you.
I have mostly used the channel strip eq as it works just as well as the plugins. The presets are handy at times and I like the drum eq preset which really makes the drums stand out. I often eq every instrument using the Channel eq and then do an final mix down eq on the output channel.

Thank you Dom for the in-depth video. I almost exclusively use the Slate VMR in my mixing template, but now if I need to add a de-esser, the envelope shaper or maybe a second compressor, I will start reaching for the channel strip modules.
Although I wish Steinberg would redesign the channel strip inside the mixing console. It would be amazing if we can have at least three or four modules visible on every channel at all times, because with the current GUI, it's impossible to use in the mixer without scrolling up and down and back and forth. Also some colors on these knobs like it used to be in older versions would be nice.

Superb video Dom, thank you! What we need Is to be able to drop in 3rd party plugin's in the strip and external hardware inserts, not just the stock Steinberg ones.

I didn't plan to listen to all of this, but I did, and am so very gratified!
I've been using Cubase since the very early days (even before VST) and back then Steinberg released a version with a channel EQ that was a horribly wrong algorithm. For compatibility, they subsequently corrected the error by adding a "High Quality EQ" button to the user interface, to switch to an actually decent EQ algorithm. I tested both of these extensively, but have been cautious about Steinberg's channel strip ever since-which is why I became such a Waves snob. But now, Cubase features so many great plugins, plus a great channel strip that I've finally been able to shake off my prejudice and use them all. As a late adopter, I really appreciate this video, and also your embrace of subtle tweaks that improve the sound of a mix. A big thank you!

i use it now since 2017 which is 5 years and i still learn all the functions and shortcuts but also the Mastering level of production techniques.
i buy second hand mastering books of engineering and even Cubase fundemental books to learn along my work as i still produce and record.

Great video! I am educating myself on Cubase, and I chose it mostly because you have such a motherload of tutorials about it, and they are made so well, that I know I will be able to get through all the rough waters of starting music production!
There are lots of tutorials on other DAWs too, but many are just so bad or depressing (or the music they use for examples hurts my ears!! 🤣) that having your channel for information is worth a lot.

I have/had never used the channel strip before , but since watching this video yesterday, i decided to give it a go on my latest project ( an orchestral hybrid type piece!) to see how i would get on? Well, i can honestly say that, i have never mixed one of my pieces so quick!!!! It was like night and day to how my mixes have been before!!! I have not used all what is in the channel strip, i have used the EQ, COMPRESSOR and SATURATION segments of the strip and my mix is sound better than ever!!!! I really feel like i have crossed a bridge into a new world!!!! I am really happy with what i have achieved with the channel strip and will use it from now, even though i have many 3rd party plugins at my disposal!!!!! And it is all down to YOU DOM!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing this video Dom, it has opened my eyes and really helped me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dom, you're the best!!!!!

Im using the Strip when doing final mixing and adding vocals in Cubase, afte Producing in Bitwig...looping the Mix through my analog gear and then adding acustica audio on the stereo out inserts....but the Strip....makes final mixing and vocals...super super fast, you can really get to that final sound on each bus....so much easier than pulling up all these different plugins..especially in the final mastering stages, thats the value I see in the Strip......after youve colored your whole mix with your prefered 3rd party plugins/and or/tracking each bus through analog
