This was before steeplechase took a new turn in the modern era, now days the Kenyan sport (Steeplechase) is approached with a high speed right from the start. This is to say the like of Ezekiel Kemboi would stand less chance in races, there in no more leaving it for the last lap, its hard work from the start and that is what makes it a very interesting sport!
Even if you took the pace out, Kemboi would just follow you and out kick you to the finish line. He's been running since before 2004, remember. They have the endurance. I mean, he's Kenyan

They have endurance; however, what I mean is that in Kemboi era the last 1 or 2 laps decided the race, Kemboi would prefer a slower race waiting for the bell to turn against his opponents with a 50 something seconds lap. Recently, the race is approached with a high pace from gun point leaving less chances for Kemboi, as witnessed in 2016 Rio and 2017 London WC, the races experienced high pace from mid way to the end and this is where the Kenyan Legend had to yield to the hot pace!

@@whatneedknow7462 he would have kept up in this race. His fitness and times indicated that. He couldn't keep up in 16 and 17 due to fitness and his age. In this one, he still had his fitness.
Why? Because even with a slow lap, age won't allow you to run as quick as he did if it were what you said.
He was massively holding back, and they couldn't keep up

How can there be 4 Kenya’s running in the finals, I thought only 3 make it passed nationals then start the rounds to the finals from there like every other country or is there something I’m missing here ?
That's Olympics where Max of three athletes per country. But an extra one is allowable for defending country when comes to world championship.
2-4 qualified in National Championships. Ezekiel Kemboi had the wild card, by virtue of being the defending champion. 1500m men had 4 Kenyans too
