    • @WarrenKLiu

China has plenty of luxury goods that are created and made in China. For example 20 year aged pu-er tea leaves, 2.5kg packaging sells between usd 80-120K,that’s $32 per gram at 80K. The flagship model for Hongqi which is an ICE Car, the Hongqi Guoli has a sticker price of 7.1M RMB or usd 980K. I don’t know about you but a $980K car in China, by the time it arrives in Europe would retail for almost 2M Euros, that I would consider a high end product. There’s more, just because China high end stuff doesn’t get exported doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Just like Japan, a lot of their best stuff stays in Japan.
There are more millionaires in China today than most European countries and I would even daresay entire EU. Their domestic appetite for high end products is probably more than they can produce. The Chinese consumers also are the single largest consumers of European luxury products. They probably already have more demand domestically so no urgency to export.
