As others have said, T-Rex's Marc Bolan was the inspiration for this song. Ringo, on VH1's "Storytellers" tells of how this song came about. He said he had Marc Bolan as a guest for dinner, and Ringo related that he was an energetic, and frankly, a little weird, guy. For instance, at dinner, Bolan was offered a second helping of potatoes, and responded, "Back off, Boogaloo!" or if told a joke, "Ooh you! Boogaloo!", and the like. The word was reverberating in Ringo's head that night, and eventually, he imagined this melody. He got out of bed to make a recording of his thoughts, as he was afraid he'd forget the tune.
As far as this recording, the guitarist was, clearly, George on slide, other guitars and, also, was the producer and co-writer, as he often helped Ringo flesh out the chords. Gary Wright, who had a hit, "Dreamweaver", was on keys. Klaus Voorman, who was a friend from the Beatles' early Hamburg days, and John Lennon's bassist was on bass.

George Harrison wrote this with Ringo and plays the slide guitar and produced it. This came out in 1972 just two years after the Beatles breakup and some people believe the lyrics are about Paul McCartney. There was animosity at the time and it’s quite possible, but Ringo denies it.

George helped Ringo out a lot after the breakup of the Beatles, co-writing several songs including this one which he also produced for him and played the slide guitar on. Ringo tended to be the peacemaker in the band with his laid back fun personality and remains very popular to this day with many famous names joining him in Ringo’s All Starr Band. Very underrated as a solo artist although he was very popular in the immediate aftermath of the split.

    • @catawbawarrior
      @catawbawarrior Před rokem

Helter Skelter has always been controversial, but I mean, can you really know The Beatles without at least hearing it? Paul rewrote the book on how to play bass, John's wall of sound strumming, and George with the SG, nevermind that they kept the background harmonies on their hardest song. I'm not an expert on the band, but they were my first favorite band and I know more than I can readily remember, if that makes sense. I'm just a half blind and getting old guy now, but my first records were Beatles given to me by my Aunt Sarah, who saw them in '69. I watch Jay and Amber mostly on my daughter's account, but I can't even see comments on the YT app on the PS. I'm not much of a commenter on here lol, typing not a strength of mine. I didn't know they had reacted to any Beatles until the other night, lost a few hours after that. Now I feel the need to help, to guide, to point in a different direction than some others I've come across. Not tonight, it's late for me, but I'm thinking, stay tuned......

Beatles: A Day in the Life.
A masterpiece .. transitions .. Paul does a jaunty little solo in the middle after the crescendo: "Woke up, got outa bed .. dragged a comb across my head". AND according to Guiness Book of World Records: the longest final chord of any song ever recorded. Plus a little surprise after that final chord, so you have to wait for it.
You HAVE TO experience A Day in the Life from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.
You're KNOW you're gonna do it ... just get it on, and do the original album .. not some live track with all the magic echoing away.

I was at a Ringo Starr & His Allstarr band concert and he already played "Yellow Submarine." Someone yelled out "Octopus's Garden." Ringo being the wit that he is said, "No no, I can't play two underwater songs at one show." That's Ringo 😅

Ringo was so underrated as an artist., many of his songs are very entertaining. Like another said, "No No Song" is great and The "B-side" of that single, "Early 1970" is his take on the Beatles break-up......the entire "goodnight Vienna" album is listen worthy

The Beatles had nicknames and Paul's was Bugaloo. This song was a slap at Paul for blaming John for their breakup.

Hey Jay and Amber, I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your reaction video to Ringo Starr's performance! It's so fascinating to see how the Beatles have always communicated through their records in their solo years. And I absolutely love George Harrison's slide guitar on this one! By the way, if you're into more hidden gems, there are plenty of Paul McCartney album tracks waiting to be unearthed.
Also, I feel lucky to have witnessed Ringo Starr and his all-star band at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London back in 1998. What a memorable night with the incredible lineup including Peter Frampton, Jack Bruce, Gary Brooker, and others! Wishing Ringo a very happy 83rd birthday! Much love to all of you! 💙

The Beatles always had a song for Ringo to sing on each of their albums In the United Kingdom (UK). On the Please Please Me album (1963), he sang "Boys". With the Beatles (1963) album, Ringo sang, "I Wanna Be Your Man". The song "Matchbox" was released as part of the Long Tall Sally (June 1964) EP. Singles and EP's were not included on UK albums, as the Beatles felt it was unfair to the fans to buy the singles and EP's and then put them on the album. The Hard Day's Night album was released in July of 1964. "Honey Don't", has a country flavor to it and was on the Beatles for Sale (1964) album. "Act Naturally" was a country song by Buck Owens that Ringo sang on the Help (1965) album. "What Goes On" is another Country flavored song on the Rubber Soul (1965) album. "Yellow Submarine" was sang on the Revolver (1966) album. "With A Little Help From My Friends" came on the Sgt. Pepper (1967) album. "Don't Pass Me By" another Country style song, was on the White Album (1968). "Octopus's Garden" was on the Abbey Road Album (1969). The 1970 Let It Be album, was the only album where Ringo did not sing as a lead vocal.

A real gem from Ringo is a song called Early 1970, which was the B-side of his hit song, It Don’t Come Easy. Each verse of the song is a commentary aimed at each of his ex-bandmates. The 1st verse was written with Paul in mind, the 2nd about John, the 3rd verse for George, and the final verse was about himself. Like this song, it features superb guitar work courtesy of George Harrison. It's a catchy tune with cleaver lyrics. I hope y'all give it a listen.

The Beatles used to kid Paul about his singing like Ricky Richardo who's style of music was called Boogaloo. As a result Paul was nicknamed Bugaloo. The other Beatles were mad at Paul at the time and telling him to back off.

Ringo co-wrote this with an uncredited George Harrison who produced it and plays all the guutars. Piano by Gary Wright ("Dreamweaver"), and bass by long time Beatles friend Klaus Voorman. Klaus has played on John and Georgr's solo albums and created the cover for The Beatles album Revolver.
It is allegedly directed at Paul.

'With a Little Help from my Friends' is a great Beatles song with Ringo on vocals, but it's best listened to in combination with 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' (first 2 songs of the Pepper album). Other recommendations: 'Oh! Darling' (with Paul belting it out as he did on 'Maybe I'm Amazed'), 'Lady Madonna,' 'Hey Bulldog' and 'Michelle.' Btw, you've still got a very long way to go covering the Beatles' catalog.

Beatles songs with Ringo Starr singing to listen to are. "Octopus Garden" written by Ringo and "With a little help from my friends" written by Lennon and McCartney. This is two of the best songs with Ringo singing to check out.
