    Washing machine motor wiring basics • Washing machine motor ... a tutorial on how to wire universal motor or washing machine motor to ac/dc known as direct wire or hot wire washing machine motor is very easy just follow the wires and starting from bottom 2+3 stay connected and the rest 1 and 5 we gonna connect them to battery or ac source the connection is the same
    because is a universal motor it can run on ac/dc.
    The universal motor is so named because it is a type of electric motor that can operate on AC or DC power. It is a commutated series-wound motor where the stator's field coils are connected in series with the rotor windings through a commutator. It is often referred to as an AC series motor. The universal motor is very similar to a DC series motor in construction but is modified slightly to allow the motor to operate properly on AC power. This type of electric motor can operate well on AC because the current in both the field coils and the armature (and the resultant magnetic fields) will alternate (reverse polarity) synchronously with the supply.

    hi ya , if you connect 12 volts to the brushes direct then you generate 3 phase power thru the winding ,so why series the brushes and the windings up?

    Your video is very good! I want to use an old washing machine motor (similar to yours) to make a homemade lathe. Can I do this without wiring in a speed controller? I am wondering if it will reach a top speed & then just maintain that top speed -OR- if it will just keep accelerating until it burns out/overheats/fails. Thanks very much!

    • @NoSkillsRequired
      @NoSkillsRequired  Před 4 lety +1

      You can do it without a controller but every motor is designed to run top speed for a period of time seconds or minutes this is the purpose of the controller to mantain oprimun speed check out my other videos on wiring without a controller

    How do you tell the difference between the three coil wires? Does the resistance just add up if you measure across both coils?

    • @NoSkillsRequired
      @NoSkillsRequired  Před 5 lety

      Simon Friborg Mortensen not all the motors are the same, this from the video is a centre tap the resistance is the same on both pairs and when I measure the ends is double the resistance

      I have a universal motor which has 3 wires to the stator. If i measure from the Center tap (I think) across either of the two other tabs, it shows about 5.3 ohm. But if i measure across the two outer tabs i shows about 6.2 ohm. Do you know why?

    • @NoSkillsRequired
      @NoSkillsRequired  Před 5 lety

      Simon Friborg Mortensen every motor it is wired differently it vary from manufacturer my advice is to follow the video for wiring and check the direction of rotation of the motor

    Dear Sir, I have a 1 phase electric motor that doesn't use carbon brushes. Used unused washing machines. Specifications of 230 volts AC 50 Hz 3.4 amp 100 watts 2800 rpm, SOLE brands made in Italy and 7 cables in light blue, gray, orange, brown, black, red and white orange. I have checked prisoners light blue - gray = 63 Ohm, light blue - orange = 58 Ohm, light blue - brown = 63.1 Ohm, light blue - white orange = 18.4 Ohm, gray - orange = 84.3 Ohm, gray- ash - brown = 89.4 Ohm, gray - white orange = 45.1 Ohm, orange - brown = 84.4 Ohm, orange - white orange = 41.2 Ohm, brown - white orange = 45.9 Ohm, black - red = 27.4 Ohm / alarm sound. Can you help me to determine which connection is phase and neutral.

    • @NoSkillsRequired
      @NoSkillsRequired  Před 5 lety

      Fransis Roong because your motor is not universal motor you should search for how to wire one phase, or induction motor you might need a capacitor as well to run it
