Описание: Casio CDP-S100 / Roland FP-10 / Yamaha P-45 blind test. Which digital piano sound do you like? Song: Academy theme from HoMM 4 pixabay.com/ru... - image
All very fine pianos - but just adding a bit of support for the Casio CDP-S100 here! Not sure what mode that was in (maybe 'Bright'?) but I can honestly say the Grand Piano on the Casio sounds NOTHING like this demo! It's far better than shown here. The best advice really would be to go to a piano shop and try all three. That's what I did and I came away with the Casio. I think the Yamaha and Roland had a *slightly* better sound, but the action on the P45 was nowhere near as nice as the Casio. The keys seemed very slow to return, and felt very cheap. I thought the Roland's action was as good as the Casio, but was significantly more expensive. For me, it was as much about the feel as it was the sound, and at that price point, the Casio was way ahead. Of course, this is all very subjective, it really is a personal choice, but for a budget-friendly starter piano, the Casio for me was the clear winner. Online reviews are an excellent starting point, but you really have to see/hear/feel each piano personally to make the right decision for you. Happy shopping everyone!
Are you sure that casio sounded as good/subpar the yamaha p45? if truly so, then please tell me, therefore afterwards i would be convinced to buy the cdp s100.thank you.
@@lugowo8986 I would say the P45 sounded slightly better but not much, and the CDP-S100 felt much better. Definitely try them both out and see what you think, but the Casio is a lovely piano 😁 Good luck!
@@davidbower9025 alright, yeah unfortunately at my locals, not even a single shop provides, thus, i can't try it, the only choice is to buy it online, one last thing i wanted to ask, if you may, i've heard about this casio CDP S100 is short pivoted keys, what do you think about it? , is it true, or doest it affect you playing at all?
I own both pianos: Roland FP-10 and Casio CDP-S100. The sound of a (compact, stage and upright) digital piano really is a matter of taste, and also depends on the settings of the individual piano and used speakers and/or headphones. Yamaha is like an upright piano, Roland is more warm and full and Casio sounds like a grand piano with an open ceiling. Also consider the number of polyphonies (Yamaha and Casio have 64, Roland has 96 polyphones). All models sound better with a good headphone or profetional external speakerss than the built-in speakers. With the further development of the virtual pianos up to the physically modeled pianos, the sound engine within the compact digital pianos is not really interesting and does not represent the first criterion for me. You can simply connect your stage piano to a tablet or computer and launsch a physical modeled virtual piano engine, and you get the best sound out there, with infinite possibilities for tuning right through to the length of the strings. The most important thing in a piano is the KEYBOARD. On all three keyboards of the named models, the keyboard of Casio is by far the best with well-scaled dynamics and pleasing surface texture (Scaled Hammer Action Keyboard II). In summary, a sound engine can be substituted for a better one, but you can not replace a bad keyboard.
I have been looking for a comparison all over, i plan to use Keyscape, and get either yamaha fp-10 or Casio CDP s100. Which one would you suggest I should get for the best feel, the best response of the keys and durability. Thank you for this in-depth review @Mrfilariss

Great video. I just purchased a P-45 and LOVE IT!!! I had an upright grand and this sound almost exactly like it, touch as well. I havent stopped playing it. It was brand new and still in box at a flea market for 225. Can't beat that price!

I tried the Roland FP 10 at a showroom played pop piano on it and I love the mellow warm tone and slightly yellowish keys. It Sound closer to a real grand piano. The upper notes of other brands always puts me off with its shrill sharp tone.
Yamaha (first one) is the brightest and also just seemed louder overall, so I thought it sounded the best at first and the Roland sounded the worst, but once I adjusted for this by turning the volume up the Roland sounded the best, much more realistic. The Roland also feels the best to me in store. The Casio is in between the two in terms of brightness, so a fine compromise. Wow, from merely the first few notes, this song suddenly reminds me of Heroes of Might and Magic 4, which I played when I was still a primary school student! At that time this very Academy theme song impressed me very much. Simply...amazingly....NOSTALGIC!
Wow, even hearing them with my phones speakers I could tell the difference. I instantly preferred the second one. Roland made such a good work on the FP-10. Definitely getting that one.
I got the Casio right as number 3 but got the P-45 and FP-10 mixed up. Very impressive sound by Roland, particularly with the rich harmonics in the bottom end which remind me of some higher priced (but not by that much) Yamahas.
hey. could you check it? "At the begining Yamaha and Roland have long sound but Casio is like cutting the sound check the very beginning of each samples. Casio for me (not even beginer) sound cheap or fake." I'm interested in buying my first piano and I need a comparison between Roland FP-10 and Casio CDPS110. What do you think?
Thank you for this video! I bought Roland FP-10, and I'm in love with it sound - deep, full, warm... And I alco like the melody you play, I cannot find any tutorials that sound like your variant... :(
That’s funny. For me, it’s the complete opposite. First and third were super clear and second was slightly muffled or dull. Third sounded slightly more harpsichord like, but almost indistinguishable from the first, which sounded like a real piano.
Baring in mind the third didn't have a sustaining pedal, which makes the sound test a little bit unfair imo. Personally, Yamaha wins for me, and would like to hear Casio with a pedal but by this recording it definitely comes last for me. Roland is a close second though, the sound is slightly fuller but also sounds more electric than the first to me, if that makes sense.
All my guessing were right. From 1st to 3rd. I can simply notice the difference. Casio sounds a bit light and treble even if you play the bass note. Roland sounds more echoing and a bit bass while yamaha sounds similar with roland but I cannot hear echo in it. Roland always wins my heart.
form me i prefer the fp10 because it has the most number of polyphony (96) and the perfect sound not too bright but no too warm and btw i was impressed by the key bed it has escapement like a real grand piano if you play the key very slowly you feel a click in the middle of the key travel and that piano when i played on it really inspires me !
True but bear in mind that the function of escapement is to rapidly repeat the note - the click in the middle of the analogue keypress is a side effect of this mechanism. The digital equivalent of escapement is a third sensor to pick up key retake before complete return, e.g. on the Kawai MP11.
I prefer the P45 in this video. Roland's SuperNatural modeling is very good, but at times the piano sounds a bit dark or slightly muffled because of the missing upper harmonics.
Last month. I bought the Yamaha P-45, but decided to return it, and got the Roland FP-10 instead. Both are good keyboards, just that, after seeing some of the reviews, than playing the Roland FP-10, I decided it was a better choice for me.
Definitely Yamaha P45: better sound and very well balanced. Casio sounds plastic like a toy with lots of EQ, and artificial dynamics. Many people are wondering "Why is the sustain on casio is so short?" "Did you use a pedal " Thats just the way Casio is, I tried it at local shop and was really disappointed with how short the notes were
Damn, I haven't played in a few years due to not having one, but I can't still nail this blind test. These three companies really have unique sounds, btw this is a beautiful song ! I'm so looking forward to start playing again... You won't escape me forever FP10 !
@@unotoli I finally bought my FP10 after waiting for like 4 years and tbh I'm so happy, maybe I'll upgrade later on for a FP30 but for now it's perfect ! I played on acoustic pianos for like 10 years and this Roland feels perfect to me !
P-45 sounds brighter and is more articulate, whereas FP-10 is mellower (more mellow?) and borderline muddy. But another way of saying that is that the blend is nice. I can see FP-10 being much more effective for softer or melancholy passages/pieces, which makes me like it most. The S100 sounded awful at first, as if the notes lacked any nuance, but after a while I sorta got used to it, and I didn’t mind it so much.
yo! what is that song called!? Its literal fire! EDIT: Ok i know what its called now. For all of you who dont know, its called The academy theme from homm 4. ;)
This video made me decide to buy a Roland fp10 instead of the Casio. Someone called it a bit 'dark and muffled' - but honestly, I really like that! It has a much warmer feel to it.
The roland has a slightly heavier action than the Kawai and the Yamaha, I think you can say that Roland is the best, but in terms of sounds if you have to choose according to your tastes.
helpful comment! Im maybe about to buy a FP-30 due to its higher polyphones. Can you explain why the FP-10 sounds the same? How can that be considering a price difference around 200€?
Thank you very very much for this video .. Casio is out of the deal .. yamaha and roland win and for me, their piano sounds are the same so we may prefer one of them depends on other features such as weight, connectivity and so on
Roland the best by far... But i've tried the casio keybed and find it very nice. I was considering buying it as a midi controller but i'm not sure if that is possible (i hope to connect it to a Nord Electro). Also haven't tried the FP-10 keybed yet...
Yes, I was in a store and the Roland was the best for me, but I want to buy the Casio because it's red! My musician friend told me that Casio is like a transistor to a stereo.
Yamaha (first one) the brightest and also just seemed louder overall, so I thought it sounded the best at first and the Roland sounded the worst, but once I adjusted for this by turning the volume up the Roland sounded the best, much more realistic. The Roland also feels the best to me in store. The Casio is in between the two in terms of brightness, so a fine compromise. Casio pianos are much better than people say, especially for the price, but I think paying a bit more for the FP-10 is worth it.
i am not a player or expert...and i dont have any of them....but in first listening...i blindly chose Roland....i think it sounds natural...casio more digital than Yamaha...but the best is Roland....as here i listened....
I thought the Yamaha sounded the best. The Casio, sounded close, but slightly more like a harpsichord, while the Roland sounded slightly muffled. But it may just be settings, placement of mic, or?
I think that slightly muffled sound is a characteristic of Roland because they use the Steinway and Sons NY piano as their piano sound. Steinways always sound like that to me.
Piano 1 is the only one that sounded real to my ears. Piano 3 sounded like a cross between a piano and harpsichord. Piano 2 was ok I guess. Thanks for the comparison!
1ST AND 3RD ONE HAVE SHRILL HIGH END. THE 2ND ONE SOUNDS LIKE A REAL PIANO HEARD THRU A SMALL RADIO. ARE THESE THE SPEAKER OUTPUTS OR LINE OUT? HUGE DIFFERENCE
Is it just me, or: 1. Fine. 2. Is there a thick sock over the microphone? 3. Yuk. Are there variables here accentuating this? Differences in recording? Modes the pianos were in?
Exact same opinion and circumstances as PandaGuitar. Casio is on sale at Musician's Friend. But I much prefer the sound of the Roland. Thanks for the demo shoot out. Stopped me from making a bad purchase decision!
My guesses and preference 1.Roland. (a bit digital like) 2. Yahama(favorite.. smooth, with more depth) 3. Casio (my least favorite... too bright, too digital like) God... I like the second the best the 1 and 3 are both a bit too digital like. Finally, Roland is not disappointing now!!! And I always guess Casio correctly because they just sound very digital and not natural smooth enough.
Piano 2 (Roland FP10) is by far the best keyboard of the 3. The Yamaha comes very close in sound quality but the Roland has many more features than the yamaha that aren’t talked about in this video. The Casio isn’t a terrible option to save money, but if you’re planning on performing with this keyboard, it sounds like literal fart cream. I would Buy the Roland FP10 if money were not much of a matter, but now it sells for closer to $7-800 and the yamaha is still around $500. The yamaha I feel is the smarter buy on a budget, but the $200 is definitely worth a world of difference. Sorry Casio, you have some good keyboards but not this one.
Yamaha звучит ярче, но у Roland есть эффект резонанса струн и при длительной игре не возникает ощущения отдельно звучащих нот , как у Yamaha. Casio-здесь не конкурент.
As much as I want a Yamaha or Roland Digital Piano, I just don't have that kind of budget for a musical instrument that I want to play as a hobby. The Casio CDP-S100 is pretty much the best Digital Piano that barely fits into my budget so it's kind of disappointing yet expected when I can clearly recognize which of these sounds and perform better.
Yeah I feel you. It was a big spend for me, but the way I see it, one of these costs no more than an XBox and that's what I'd be wasting my time on if I wasn't learning piano.
Listening, I was hoping #2 was the Roland. If you weren't doing a side by side comparison, the Casio would be an acceptable keyboard, but hearing all three together, you can tell the small, but clear difference. Yamaha for brilliance, Roland for warmth. (Casio for price?)
Didn't quite like sound #3. The higher note sounds like its from a 1800s saloon. There was no ring to it when played (not sure of correct term). I liked #2 a little more than #1. It felt a little softer/warmer sound, if you know what I mean.
I think Roland clearly wins as it sounded the best to my ears. While the Casio one feels unnatural, Yamaha doesn't sound too good either, the sound doesn't seem to harmonize that well. So it would be hard to judge b/w Yamaha and Casio. Out of the three, my pick would definitely be Roland.
Liked piano 2 the most but they were all competent. I am currently in the market for one in this price range. My choice is the FP-10 due to its 3 year warranty.
I liked all three. For myself I am more interested in the key action because I plan to use whichever one I buy as a virtual piano controller. I tried out the P 45 the other day and the key action seemed weird because I felt like I had to push through something to get the keys to go all the way down.
Yeah. What is not included in this video is the key action. Yamaha is the worst among 3 in terms of key action. For a beginner level pianist, this is what matters most IMHO.
I had a casio electrical piano, the sustain damper is not full sustained, it feel like half pedaling. From here both yamaha P45 and roland fp10 sounds equally good. It depends on which sound of piano you are use to listen.

Casio for me (not even beginer) sound cheap or fake." I'm interested in buying my first piano and I need a comparison between Roland FP-10 and Casio CDPS110. What do you think?
thank you for the blind test, I was wondering which one to choose, Roland FP-10 it is, sounds very settle, I love it!
Thank you for this video! I bought Roland FP-10, and I'm in love with it sound - deep, full, warm... And I alco like the melody you play, I cannot find any tutorials that sound like your variant... :(
fp10 has string resonance effect. it makes the sounds in same harmonic range much richer.

Very useful!! Helps distinguish much better! Thank you!
The goat!!!
After testing all three in a music store, I decided on the P-45. Best sound and features for the price.
Thoughts abt roland ?
@@HT-ho7pn I have a Roland FP-30X. The speakers are horrible.
Yamaha P45: Strong
Roland FP10: Calm
Casio CDP S100: Clarity
I prefer Roland
The last one was definitely the most unsuccessful. To me the most successful roland. Second place is yamaha.
That’s funny. For me, it’s the complete opposite. First and third were super clear and second was slightly muffled or dull. Third sounded slightly more harpsichord like, but almost indistinguishable from the first, which sounded like a real piano.
Roland sounds so rich and full.
Same
The Roland immediately sounded smooth even in the blind test..but I thought it was played more softly which added the soothing effect of Roland
All my guessing were right. From 1st to 3rd. I can simply notice the difference. Casio sounds a bit light and treble even if you play the bass note. Roland sounds more echoing and a bit bass while yamaha sounds similar with roland but I cannot hear echo in it. Roland always wins my heart.
love the warm and mellow tone of the roland the most
form me i prefer the fp10 because it has the most number of polyphony (96) and the perfect sound not too bright but no too warm and btw i was impressed by the key bed it has escapement like a real grand piano if you play the key very slowly you feel a click in the middle of the key travel and that piano when i played on it really inspires me !
True but bear in mind that the function of escapement is to rapidly repeat the note - the click in the middle of the analogue keypress is a side effect of this mechanism. The digital equivalent of escapement is a third sensor to pick up key retake before complete return, e.g. on the Kawai MP11.
@@akmroberts They say the roland fp10 has 3 sensors as well. Is that true?
@@simcax6087 yes
FP10 is a lot brighter than this video suggests. Although this was 2 years ago so maybe the firmware has updated.
While most people think fp10 is the best, I actually prefer yamaha... Roland's sound is just too soft to me.
I agree that Roland is too soft. It would hard to get it to cut through a mix.
it's possible to tweak in app
true! the roland blends really smoothly but louder playing on that sounds a bit held back to me
FP-10>P-45>S100
I prefer the P45 in this video. Roland's SuperNatural modeling is very good, but at times the piano sounds a bit dark or slightly muffled because of the missing upper harmonics.
Or in others words, Roland Sounds Very very Jazzy, yeahhhhhh
Last month. I bought the Yamaha P-45, but decided to return it, and got the Roland FP-10 instead. Both are good keyboards, just that, after seeing some of the reviews, than playing the Roland FP-10, I decided it was a better choice for me.
They are digital pianos
Check FP-30X sound is much better. Otherwise Pianoteq7.5 + FP10 is the sweetest combo.
@@unotoli I finally bought my FP10 after waiting for like 4 years and tbh I'm so happy, maybe I'll upgrade later on for a FP30 but for now it's perfect ! I played on acoustic pianos for like 10 years and this Roland feels perfect to me !
It’s a $100 difference. If you were planning to upgrade, you should have just paid it from the start
Update, I started learning the song in this video a few weeks ago and I finally finished learning it today! Such a nice song to listen to and play 😍
@@alygator6128 What is the name of the song?
Could you please publish the sheet of that lovely Song or do a Tutorial ?
Did you find it?
Description
P-45 sounds brighter and is more articulate, whereas FP-10 is mellower (more mellow?) and borderline muddy. But another way of saying that is that the blend is nice. I can see FP-10 being much more effective for softer or melancholy passages/pieces, which makes me like it most. The S100 sounded awful at first, as if the notes lacked any nuance, but after a while I sorta got used to it, and I didn’t mind it so much.
I think “ more mellow” would be more grammatically correct.
All have good sound... But in richness I'll go for yamaha b45
И все таки я не ошибся, когда купил Yamaha P-45. И это радует)))
That last one sounded like a bright piano
yo! what is that song called!? Its literal fire!
EDIT: Ok i know what its called now. For all of you who dont know, its called The academy theme from homm 4. ;)
This video made me decide to buy a Roland fp10 instead of the Casio. Someone called it a bit 'dark and muffled' - but honestly, I really like that! It has a much warmer feel to it.
So cool you did this Video. Thousands of people need this for their decision wheter Yamaha P-125 or Roland FP-30 or Kawai ES-110.
The roland has a slightly heavier action than the Kawai and the Yamaha, I think you can say that Roland is the best, but in terms of sounds if you have to choose according to your tastes.
I have Roland FP-30 and I love it. FP-10 sounds the same.
helpful comment! Im maybe about to buy a FP-30 due to its higher polyphones. Can you explain why the FP-10 sounds the same? How can that be considering a price difference around 200€?
No 2 i liked more than others.
Thank you very very much for this video .. Casio is out of the deal .. yamaha and roland win and for me, their piano sounds are the same so we may prefer one of them depends on other features such as weight, connectivity and so on
Casio has the best keyboard, the sound can be changed with sound engine.
@@innosanto how can I improve the sound (without connecting to a PC)?
Piano 1- 0:00
Piano 2- 0:55
Piano 3- 1:48
Roland the best by far... But i've tried the casio keybed and find it very nice. I was considering buying it as a midi controller but i'm not sure if that is possible (i hope to connect it to a Nord Electro). Also haven't tried the FP-10 keybed yet...
Yes, I was in a store and the Roland was the best for me, but I want to buy the Casio because it's red! My musician friend told me that Casio is like a transistor to a stereo.
Watching this video changed my mind. Thanks.
Roland👍
No.1. Honest. Clear. Not too perfect. I love it.
That's why it's always good to try the pianos to choose which one you like, as I always say everything is a matter of taste
i am not a player or expert...and i dont have any of them....but in first listening...i blindly chose Roland....i think it sounds natural...casio more digital than Yamaha...but the best is Roland....as here i listened....
The FP-10 is just ahead of the P45 - I was surprised.
Thats your opinion. I think the Yamaha has the better Sound
@@xXCloudFantasiXx well, obviously it's my opinion - I wouldn't be giving anyone else's opinion ;)
@@xXCloudFantasiXx thats your opinion. you can see many opinions here.
i literally just bought an FP10, then watched this video. thank god i made the right choice!
Thank yourself, why thank god.
me too!
Same! How do you like it?
What piece is this? Very beautiful! Nostalgic!
Piano 1 is the only one that sounded real to my ears. Piano 3 sounded like a cross between a piano and harpsichord. Piano 2 was ok I guess. Thanks for the comparison!
Brilliant video idea. Two thumbs up if I could.
1ST AND 3RD ONE HAVE SHRILL HIGH END. THE 2ND ONE SOUNDS LIKE A REAL PIANO HEARD THRU A SMALL RADIO. ARE THESE THE SPEAKER OUTPUTS OR LINE OUT? HUGE DIFFERENCE
Went in blind, and thougt sound 3 was the best. Luckaly it was the S100 which I just have ordered :D
Yamaha P-45 : 2:38
Roland FP-10 : 3:33
Casio CDP-S-100 : 4:26
A mi parecer el P-45 tiene un sonido mas profundo. Mi elección Yamaha P-45 "Me atrapa"
Roland is better
But Yamaha is very good
I need the sheets for this wonderful piece of music
Definitely the yamaha p45, its affordable, good price and great quality sound
The Roland !!!
What is the name of this music? Could I find the sheets somewhere please?
Piano 1 0:00
Piano 2 0:55
Piano 3 1:47
It should be seen what sound was used in each register. It seems to me that it is not a fair comparison.
Is it just me, or:
1. Fine.
2. Is there a thick sock over the microphone?
3. Yuk.
Are there variables here accentuating this? Differences in recording? Modes the pianos were in?
Thank you. This helped me a lot.
Does anyone know the name of the song?
Очень понравилась в звучание ямаха, глубокий звук, объемное звучание. Касио сухо звучит. Благодарю за познание и воспроизведение.
.
Такое же мнение.
Может у P45 звук губже, но у F10 от более детализированней на средних тонах!..
I wish people played classical music that have been recorded by great artists from the past. This way we can compare apples to apples.
3 out of 3 🤘🤘
If the Casio's sustain had been longer, maybe it would sound better.
i don't know how you did to make casio sounds so bad !
Mine in Grand Piano sounds much like the Roland.
Very strange.
I like the sound of the Rolad the best, but it sort of sound like is coming more from the left side. Is this just something with the recording?
This is very helpful! Thanks!
Roland FP 10 of course 👍
Tip: hit the 1, 2 or 4 keys on your keyboard to jump between the pianos in this video.
Yamaha звучит ярче, но у Roland есть эффект резонанса струн и при длительной игре не возникает ощущения отдельно звучащих нот , как у Yamaha. Casio-здесь не конкурент.
Hi, can you please compare the action and touch sensitivity of the Casio and Yamaha? Which one is better?
Casio is much better.
Yes, roland very rich warm mellow tone and does not sound annoying for higher chords or notes.
Liked piano 2 the most but they were all competent. I am currently in the market for one in this price range. My choice is the FP-10 due to its 3 year warranty.
In which country you are from?
My top:
1) roland
2) yamaha
3) casio
I'll buy roland fp-30
I liked all three. For myself I am more interested in the key action because I plan to use whichever one I buy as a virtual piano controller. I tried out the P 45 the other day and the key action seemed weird because I felt like I had to push through something to get the keys to go all the way down.
Yeah. What is not included in this video is the key action. Yamaha is the worst among 3 in terms of key action. For a beginner level pianist, this is what matters most IMHO.
The 1 is the winner for me!
Ahhhhhhh,I got the first one correct, the last one is quiet thick,I forgot if it's Roland or Casio, confirmed not Yamaha :(
FP-10>>>>P-45>S-100
I agree
Yamaha es el mejor a mi gusto!
oh ok. I got it.
I had a casio electrical piano, the sustain damper is not full sustained, it feel like half pedaling. From here both yamaha P45 and roland fp10 sounds equally good. It depends on which sound of piano you are use to listen.
Whats the name of the song?
Great work
Thanks!
