  • My lightweight lock of choice. The Gold-rated motorcycle lock from LITELOK. It's different from the traditional lock and chain and I explain why.

Just received mine, but the model number printed on the reverse of the tab near the locking mechanism (under the neoprene cover) is LL01Gv11. Comes back to the original litelok bicycle and sold secure lists both bicycle and motorcycle under the same model number. Is your model number the same? I'm starting to wonder if the motorbike version is just a rebranding project.

I have the same label. It appears they sell a gold bike version, same specs as the motorcycle version, but half the locking circumference. I'm assuming both locks come under the same testing.

Hi Chima, The Bicycle and Motorcycle come under the same code on Sold Secure as it has the same material :)

Angle grinder would go though that like hot knife though butter 😞

What lock/chain or deterrent can you easily carry around that cannot be cut by a battery angle grinder? I don't know of any, accept the LITELOK.
LITELOK is a deterrent whilst out and about using your bike. The construction of the LITELOK is going to slow a thief if they have an angle grinder.
I do not use the LITELOK to secure my bikes in the garage. I use a ground anchor, huge chain, and padlock. That's after they have broken through the reinforced door with the car parked in front of it :-)

Can be cut through in a few seconds with cable cutters. Junk.

You are not cutting this with cable cutters unless you have a lot of time on your hands. What lock/chain can you easily carry around that cannot be cut by a battery angle grinder? I don't know of any, accept the LITELOK. I think thieves these days or more likely to carry a battery angle grinder, than a huge set of bolt cutters.
The construction of the LITELOK is going to slow them if they have an angle grinder.
Take a look at the video by LambChops, he couldn't cut this version of the LITELOK with bolt cutters.

@@thegenxrider Chopsy used bolt cutters, which is the wrong tool for the job, and even stated that he did not want to fully damage it as he wanted to use it afterwards. Telling people a security product is worthy of their money without properly testing it, is irresponsible. You can find this lock being cut in a few seconds with wire cutters on the Bennett's CZcams channel. An angle grinder will also cut through this in a few seconds, albeit noisily, although, I didn't mention an angle grinder. Skip to 14:50 here czcams.com/video/YKO1yudGVNg/video.html

@@Ferbeldeyberb Irresponsible? First off, I didn't buy a lock to cut up. Just like I'm not going to test the SOS/crash function of my tracker by crashing my bike. I brought the LITELOK based on reviews, good and bad. If LITELOK wants to send me one for review purposes, I'm more than happy to go at it with cutters and an angle grinder :-)
I never said it was full proof, its a deterrent, like all locks. But it's a deterrent I can easily carry around, as opposed to heavy chain and lock. My bike hasn't been stolen to date, but I will be sure to follow up here if it does.
Let me add... If you want to go 50/50 on a LITELOCK I'll be more than happy for you to cut up and I'll post the review.

@@thegenxrider I never said you did. You are recommending a lock based on nothing more than how it looks and feels, and you have a link (an affiliate link maybe?) to the product so people can buy it, despite the fact that it offers very little in the way of security. All locks and chains are great until someone takes your bike. Why risk it with something as poor as this? And just because your bike hasn't been stolen while the litelok is on it, does not mean it's a good product, it just means that you've been lucky. Now you've seen the video of the litelok being cut so quickly, do you still trust it?

    • @thegenxrider
      @thegenxrider  Před 3 lety +4

@@Ferbeldeyberb No affiliate link here. Yes, I have seen the videos on the LITELOK being cut. Also just about every other lock being cut or opened on the "LockPickingLawyer" channel.
Do I trust the LITELOK 100% in stopping a thief stealing my bike? Nope, that's why I have a tracker and insurance.
That's also why I have a ground anchor in the garage, heavy chain, alarmed, CCTV etc. The problem is, I cannot carry all that in my tank bag or backpack when I go riding :-)
The LITELOK offers me portability, "looks" as secure and heavy-duty than many other hard to carry, heavier options, so in my opinion, it's good enough for me and good enough for the streets.
