- This is the first outing with my new RockEater gears for the Dana 18 transfer case. These are 3.6:1 making my final ratio 65:1. This is a stock 1947 Willys CJ2a; the original civilian flatfender with the L134 flathead 4cylinder motor. Lockers and a full floating rear axle. I'm running narrow 34" Super Swampers with 10 psi. Any lower on the tire pressure and they pop off the rim. Still working on the motor stalling issue. This video was taken near Amarillo, TX.

The more I see these older jeeps, the more I like them.
Great jeep thank you
Just gotta say, this is my favorite jeep on CZcams.
I daily a 2004 tj se around Monterey. I really want a CJ2a. I'm on the hunt and your's is my inspiration.
Thx for the compliment! Good luck on your hunt for a CJ2a, you will love it!
The old Willy’s are awesome.
Nice jeep 🚙
thanks!
Great Video! Planning to get started on my project soon and this gets me motivated
That's a really nice build! Take care and enjoy!
I think I am in love with your Jeep
Thx, Craig! I’m pretty fond of it also :-)
Cool little jeep you have
Love the tires
Doesn't get much cooler than that!
Really interested in the paint color, type, and any other info on the paint.
I read through the comments and thank you for the info on the tires and the link.
Love your build!
nomex1996: The paint is a regular automotive single stage paint by Valspar. I don’t remember the exact paint code number, I just picked it out from a swatch example. After I painted the jeep, I thought it looked a little flat, so I added a little pearl mica to a clearcoat and shot it with that. It’s pretty scratched up now, and I’m not going to buy that expensive single stage paint for the touch up. Good news is that Krylon “True Blue” in the rattle can is a very close match.
Seen your jeep in a number of videos. Very nice. lot of jeeps with wider tires seem to spin more where those narrow swampers dig in hard. I'm considering those tires on my 4cyl diesel landcruiser. Don't have the HP to blow across the top of mud with wider mudders. Think those swampers may be the best. Jeep looks great be careful.
Thx! I do have a full rollcage now👍🏼
Great Jeep
Tires are awesome
Be safe in Moab my Love!
Got to have a roll cage my friend. My uncle was killed in Korea in a Willy's jeep accident when he was 19. They snuck out and went drinking then crashed (rolled). The soldiers who he was with instead of getting help, snuck him back into bed badly hurt and bleeding internally. I guess he was dead in the morning. True story
Really liking your videos. I just got a '73 CJ5 a few days ago that had some mods by the previous owner. Some Im not too crazy about. I just finished re-installing a factory style steering wheel, the aftermarket one with armstrong steering was ridiculous. It now has 33X12.5-15's that rub on spite of the lift kit. So I was looking for narrower tires and found the 32X9.5-15 Super Swampers. Yours look great! I may need to look into the rock eater gears. I am running a 3 speed with a Dana 20 TC. Probably higher geared then your Dana 18 in factory form. But the upside is I have a 4.2 that lugs real well. Are you the guy that makes the boots?
Bees toe: No, I’m not the boot maker named TECOVAS.
34x9.50 swampers? Who makes the bumpers you are running? Love the 2a!
Ben, yes those are 34x9x16 swampers. I made my own bumpers. Thx for the compliments!
what lockers are you running back and front , great looking jeep by the way !!
Thx for the compliment! In the rear I’m running a D44 mini spool and in the front I have a Lock Right.
Very Nice!👍
i want some rockeaters. i want the 4.86. wish i could see what kind of case modifications needed. i am sticking an nv4500 in my cj6 from an early chevy. keeping the dana 18. if i can get the 4.86 low, itll be 140:1 crawl. not too shabby. im going to get the intermediate shaft upgrade as well.
rowdy hansen
The top of the case has to be cut out and an extension welded on to make the 4.86 gears fit in the Dana 18. The Rockeater gears require the 1.25” intermediate shaft. That will be a super low crawl ratio!
that will make it pretty tough and get rid of the intermediate shaft failures wont it?
that and the roller bearing upgrade?
Yes, the tapered roller bearing for the intermediate shaft is a good upgrade, but not really necessary if you have a stock drivetrain. I just use the regular 1 1/4” shaft with no problems.
What’s the axle and suspension setup to run those Narrow SS’s?
I’m running stock axles (Dana 41 rear and Dana 25 in front), although I have full floating axles in the rear. I have Black Diamond 3.5” lift springs with 2 leafs removed from each pack. Daystar 1/2” lift shackles.
Time for a Petronix ignition.
I was running an electronic ignition at the time of this video. if you are referring to the engine dying, it was a fuel delivery issue.
It's 2018 man... how did you get your hands on a set of rockeater gears?

I called up Jack O’Brien at 4 Wheels West and just ordered them.
Tecovas that's great to know. All I know of Jack O'Brien was in a forum from 2013. it was from a conversation where they had not heard from him in a long time and that he may have closed up shop or passed away. It's awesome to know that that is not the case. I've read that there is no comparison between his gear sets and others.
34 x 9 x 16
Are you using oem 4.5x16 wheels? Or are they wider?
Yes they are original KH 16 x 4.5 wheels.
@@tecovas3998 Wow. Good to hear. Thanks! Probably acts as a beadlock!
What size tires are you running?
These ones --> www.intercotire.com/tire/126
Did u loosen up your spring rates too?
Yes, I removed 2 leafs from each spring pack. It helped, but now I need to change shocks.
Tecovas
Did you ever throw shocks at it yet?? Got any shocks you fellas recommend? Im pretty certain im still on the originals, lol.
Gordon, still running the same shocks. I haven’t tried enough to make a recommendation.
Tyre size?
34x9x16
please get a rollcage!
